Hermione Moon’s Avalon Cafe series is wonderful! A Knight on the Town is charming, a good mystery, a sweet but hot-embered, slow-burning romance, with great 3D characters. Something I really appreciate is that the murder victim finds peace. That is not the case with other cozy mysteries I’ve read. And Arthur is … Arthur! 😉
I read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
What I love about this author is how she researches the history of her subjects, in this case King Arthur. Gwen and Arthur are becoming one of my favorite couples she has written. I love the history she has put into this book, and with the twists and turns the story takes it really has some intense moments as these two unlikely characters figure out the newest murder. I love Merlin and how he plays into this story, very funny in parts and serious in others. There’s a lot of information in this story about King Arthur and his Queen Guinevere, and the author goes into great detail on the history and lineage of the witches that play into the side characters in this story, absolutely fascinating, yet holds your interest page after page with an incredible who done it mystery. A lot of paranormal things that happen in this installment, which adds to the needing to get to the next page to see what happens. Truly loved this book a lot. Very well worth the read.

“A Knight on the Town” is a perfect addition to the wonderful new enchanted “Avalon Café” cozy mystery series. The series is a fun blend of mystery, romance, history, magic and a few ghosts that could be read by all ages. The romance develops naturally, but is clean and the murder is not graphic. While “A Knight on the Town” can be fully enjoyed as a standalone, I believe reading the series in order will enhance the experience.
As Arthur’s adventure in the year 2020 continues, with Gwen as his guide and the ever-present Merlin, the ghost whispering dog a constant companion, the sweet romance between Arthur and Gwen develop, as Gwen’s powers as a witch develop, and they search to solve the mystery. Gwen’s world and the characters from the Avalon café come to life as the story unfolds. Beatrice, Gwen, Max, Christian, Imogene and Gwen’s other friends are back as is her nemesis, Matthew.
I was captivated by the story and read it in one day. The story left me with such a feel-good feeling, like all of Serenity Wood’s books do.
I received an ARC copy from the author and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.
A perfectly charming cozy mystery
King Arthur coming back to life, reincarnated Gwenivere, baking, murder, witches, romantic declarations, and a dash of archaeology! What more could you ask for? The idea for this series is brilliant, and the writing is charmingly superb. Hermione Moon, the new pen name of the romance writer Serenity Woods, has struck gold with this new series. I adore the story, the warmth of the main characters, the plot, and the cozy feeling that this novel evokes in my soul. Arthur and Gwen are my new favorite crime-solving couple.
This book has a little bit of blood and dastardly deeds, but there is no cursing or sexual content. This cozy paranormal mystery series is best read in order, and I can’t wait to read the next one. There is a new mystery in every novel, but Gwen and Arthur’s growing relationship continues through the series. I highly recommend this to everyone who likes paranormal cozy mysteries. Also, everyone who likes clean paranormal romance should try this for something a bit new and different. In addition, every fan of Serenity Woods should try this because it has all of her usual feel-good writing, except with just kissing (no bedroom scenes).
I requested and received a free advanced reading copy from the author, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review. I also borrowed it on KU.
REVIEW:
A Knight on the Town by Hermione Moon
The Avalon Café #2
After more years than imaginable King Arthur has awoken and Gwen has managed to help him out of a suit of armor he has occupied off and on for a long time. In book one the two, with Merlin the dog, managed to solve a murder and unchain a ghost allowing it to move on. In book two Gwen and Arthur are beginning to get to now one another…and they are taking it slow. Of course, there is another murder to solve as this is, after all, a cozy mystery series
What I liked:
* Gwen: a good woman with a warm heart that very easily could be Arthur’s…eventually
* Arthur: my, oh my! He is a man among men, has always loved Gwen and yet he is a patient man and definitely worth waiting for.
* Merlin the dog that once was a bard and friend of Arthur’s
* The premise for the story
* The bits about the past and how this Arthur is and isn’t the one of historical myths
* That it is fun and easy to read
* The witchy bits
* Immi & Christian – friends
* Aunt Beatrix and Uncle Max
* Wondering what will happen next and how Gwen and Arthur will eventually find their HEA
What I did not like:
* That people do have to die for a cozy mystery to take place…ah well…sometimes those that die really aren’t the nicest people in the world
* Having to wait for the next book in the series
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4-5 STars
This is the second book in the cozy mystery series, Avalon Café.
I’m enjoying this series so much. Now that Arthur is out of his suit of armor he wants to explore his new world. Unfortunately, while they are out on that first morning, they discover another dead body. Gwen wants to investigate as it looks like someone is trying to set her up as the murderer. Plus, she keeps seeing the dead woman.
At the same time, she and Arthur are getting to know each other. He’s watched her her whole life, but she’s just coming to terms with being his reincarnated Guinevere.
I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
Gwen and Arthur’s relationship is developing, there’s another murder to solve and Arthur is dipping his toes into 21st century living. Add into the mix Gwen’s evolving powers and her relationships with friends and family and you have a page turner that does not let you down.
As with the first book, the only disappointment I suffered when reading this book was to realise that the book had reached its end. Well done, Hermione Moon, I cannot wait for the third installment!
I received a free ARC in return for an honest review of this book.
Arthur had found his Gwen while they are waiting for Gwen to make up her mind she is showing him around. They find another body. Story will keep you until the end.
Hermione Moon is one of my favorite authors no matter what name she is writing under. A Knight on the Town is the second book in her Avon Cafe Series which has quickly become a favorite with me too. In this cozy paranormal mystery the characters are charming including Merlin the dog. The murders are serious but handled with a light touch, not graphic at all. They come to a satisfying conclusion with the culprit caught. There is an abundance of pro-witchcraft in this book but it did not hinder me from enjoying the characters, their developing relationship or the murder investigation.
Gwen and Arthur have a relationship past, present and now future that is slowly building. For that reason I would recommend reading the books in order. The first book, One Dark & Stormy Knight introduces how Gwen and Arthur, I guess you would say, meet. However, I immensely enjoyed the shorter story, Every Dog Has His Day which gives background on Gwen and especially Merlin, the ghost whispering dog. As for Arthur, he is positively the perfect book boyfriend, but be warned, he only has eyes for Gwen. This just serves to make him even more perfect. There is a side romance between Gwen’s best friend and a character from the previous book. These couples are so cute together, though they wouldn’t appreciate that being said, but they totally are.
This story involves Matthew Hopkins, Gwen’s nemesis along with his family. While the suspect list narrows down to a handful pretty quick, it is difficult to decide which one is the murderer. I was certain about the same time as Gwen. I would recommend A Knight on the Town as an all around good time read, mystery with a dash of romance.
4.5 Stars
The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
5 Star review A Knight On The Town (The Avalon Cafe #2) by Hermione Moon
Hermione Moon is a relatively new author to me. This is a cozy mystery that I found thoroughly entertaining and I was captivated by the story that Ms.Moon wove as I tried to guess what was going to happen and who the guilty party was.
There were surprises and quite a few twists and turns as witch Gwen Young and King Arthur become involved in a murder investigation.
These characters are engaging and you cannot help but become invested as you try to follow the clues and solve the mystery before Gwen and her friends do.
This is a classic tale of lost love, found love and the supernatural. It is a book for all ages, a gentle romance between a kitchen witch and a man from a distant past by the name of Arthur. A murder. Warm characters. This is a standalone book but is so much better reading in order. Bravo!! I am looking forward to upcoming books. Bravo!!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Knight on the Town by Hermione Moon, book two in The Avalon Café series, was a delightful and intriguing story. Once again Gwen Young finds herself involved in a murder, but this time she has the help of “King” Arthur and her dog Merlin. With Arthur alive, in physical form, Gwen helps him adjust to modern life as they explore her town looking for clues as to the killer. Ms. Moon created a story that is full of enchantment, legends, along with the perfect mix of suspense, romance and magic. I was so caught up in the story that I kept reading, finishing this book in one sitting. I highly recommend Knight on the Town to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I am loving this cozy mystery series. I initially planned to start reading this book and finish it the following day. When I came up for air, I was done with 72% of the book so I kept going until the end.
This is the 2nd book in the series, and there is a prequel. You don’t have to read them in order, but I think you will want to do that. I actually read the prequel after the first book. It didn’t take any of the enjoyment away, but it gives me another level of insight regarding the things that happened in book 1.
I like the way the mystery unfolds in this book. It makes you think and leaves you just a little on edge. In this book, Gwen gets to investigate the murder with Arthur and Merlin by her side. I love the blend of witches, magic, history, and Arthur’s adjustment to his current situation.
Also, the emphasis of this book is not on the romance, but Arthur and Gwen are doing this really slow burn as far as their relationship goes. The attraction is intense and manages to be steamy without being physical if that makes sense.
With Arthur pulling his past into the present, and Gwen’s magical talents increasing, this book kept me fully engaged. Along with Beatrice Max, Imogene, Christian, Gwen’s other friends and the disliked by all Matthew, this is a ride I don’t think you want to miss. I am anxiously awaiting book 3.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. The mystery is good and I enjoy reading it, but what I really love is the growing relationship between Arthur and Gwen.
Gwen and Arthur’s story is so powerful that it has lasted through the centuries. While trying to reconnect again they find dead body. It seems they follow Gwen around but they will try to solve the mystery. A cozy mystery with a touch of history and an ever lasting love. Wonderful book.
I am loving this new cosy mystery series with (King) Arthur and kitchen witch Gwen. Though there are some anomalies, like Arthur being able to read and write, the storyline is so much fun that I am happy to overlook things like this. Each book features a new murder to be solved and so could be read as a standalone but the ongoing relationship between Gwen and Arthur means I would advise readers to read this series in order.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
If you are stuck at home and needing to travel, then take a lovely romantic trip to England with A Knight on the Town, and add more than a little bit of magic. You do not need to read the first book in the series, A Dark and Stormy Knight, to enjoy the second book but you will not want to miss all the romance, fun and adventure of the first book. You can even get a free short prequel at the end of the books. King Arthur’s soul is captured and held for 1500 years in a stone put in the handle of his sword and only comes to life again so that he can be with Gwen, whom he knows to be the reincarnation of his beloved Guinevere. Since he is already in love with her and watched her grow up as he sat entombed in the armor in her cafe, he is patient to win her over again as Gwen. I love Arthur – he is such a sweet and eager young man who loves to learn about this new world. And Gwen is a witch who is just coming into her full powers and she finds herself helping dead souls find their murderers and also leave this earth. There is an adorable dog named Merlin who has the soul of Arthur’s best friend, so the pair are wonderful together. I was able to leave my isolation behind and have a vacation from home helping Gwen and Arthur solve another cozy mystery and fall closer to love.
