NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Taking place nearly a century before the events of A Game of Thrones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms compiles the first three official prequel novellas to George R. R. Martin’s ongoing masterwork, A Song of Ice and Fire. NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY LOS ANGELES TIMES AND BUZZFEED These never-before-collected adventures recount an age when the Targaryen … BUZZFEED
These never-before-collected adventures recount an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living consciousness. Before Tyrion Lannister and Podrick Payne, there was Dunk and Egg. A young, naïve but ultimately courageous hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall towers above his rivals—in stature if not experience. Tagging along is his diminutive squire, a boy called Egg—whose true name is hidden from all he and Dunk encounter. Though more improbable heroes may not be found in all of Westeros, great destinies lay ahead for these two . . . as do powerful foes, royal intrigue, and outrageous exploits.
Featuring more than 160 all-new illustrations by Gary Gianni, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a must-have collection that proves chivalry isn’t dead—yet.
Praise for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
“Readers who already love Martin and his ability to bring visceral human drama out of any story will be thrilled to find this trilogy brought together and injected with extra life.”—Booklist
“The real reason to check out this collection is that it’s simply great storytelling. Martin crafts a living, breathing world in a way few authors can. . . . [Gianni’s illustrations] really bring the events of the novellas to life in beautiful fashion.”—Tech Times
“Stirring . . . As Tolkien has his Silmarillion, so [George R. R.] Martin has this trilogy of foundational tales. They succeed on their own, but in addition, they succeed in making fans want more.”—Kirkus Reviews (starred review)
“Pure fantasy adventure, with two of the most likable protagonists George R. R. Martin has ever penned.”—Bustle
“A must-read for Martin’s legion of fans . . . a rousing prelude to [his] bestselling Song of Ice and Fire saga . . . rich in human drama and the colorful worldbuilding that distinguishes other books in the series.”—Publishers Weekly

Give inside into the history of Westerns. Game of Thrones fans will enjoy, music less torrid and violent then GoT
Very entertaining stuff for fans of the Game of Thrones universe
Great book! Hope there are more in the works!!
If you are interested in the pre-history of Game of Thrones or are just suffering from withdrawal, these short stories continue to build the mythology of characters who existed before Jon and Dany. An enchanting read.
Great read. I hope there are more stories coming on Dunk and Egg!
I would consider this a YA level book.
Don’t miss this one! George RR Martin has outdid himself. Can’t wait until he finishes this series too!
I truly enjoyed reading this book! I, personally didn’t read the author’s other books, of which this is a pre-quel, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one! I wish there were more about his travels!
Dunk and Egg are appealing characters, but they are definitely set up for a series. I found the detailed heraldry tiresome, so I probably wouldn’t read a second book.
A read by George RR Martin is like a bit of gold: Always a treasure, always desirable and you always want more.
Recommend it for folks who enjoy game of thrones.
5 stars
Rather disappointing. Simple in language and delivery. Adds no value to the Game of thrones.
I am a big Martin fan, so it saddens me that the story is weakened by repetition. There are three separate events that are retold in detail. At first, I thought it was Deja Vu, then I thought that I had lost my place and reread pages. If you can overlook this flaw, the story is really good, and it provides some context and history for the Seven Kingdoms and the Game of Thrones Saga.
Can’t wait till he finishes the series!
As always George R. R. Martin entertains. I’m looking forward to any new adventures of the hedge knit and his squire.
good book
Having read, and thoroughly enjoyed, all the Song of Ice and Fire books, this was disappointing to me. Story line was a little drab and characters a little too predictable. I also thought it would provide more background to the series, but it did not really do that.
Could not stop listening to this awesome fantasy teal of mystery, families and there pursuit of ruling the 7 kingdoms!!
An engaging character. I would like to read more. Similar to Game of Thrones but focused on one character rather than a complex series of plots.
