Lies, love, lust and power. Bestselling author Ella Fields delivers a sexy, gritty, wickedly addictive fantasy romance. All my life, I’d known my marriage would be arranged. What I never expected was to fall in love. My betrothed was arrogance dressed in royal finery, and I longed to both disappear and step closer whenever he entered the room.As princess of the Moon Kingdom, and daughter of the … Moon Kingdom, and daughter of the cruelest king our land had ever seen, I was well-versed in deceit and debauchery. The Sun Kingdom’s sly prince was no threat to me.
Assuming that was a grave mistake. For the ever-present smirk, irritating charm, and adoring gleam in his eyes began to melt the ice encasing my heart.
All too soon, hatred turned to love. I was captured by something I’d rarely experienced before—happiness.
But I should’ve known better.
After all, I’d been raised by a monster. And little did I know I was about to marry one.
Contains dark themes and a HEA. No cliffhanger. Recommended for 18+

Without a doubt one of the best fantasy romance I’ve read in quite awhile. A King So Cold was a breathtaking story filled with political intrigue, treason, mystery, suspense, love, hate, anger, vengeance, angst and so much more.
I was consumed with this story from the very first chapter and I could not put it down. Ella Fields took us on a heart-pounding journey with these amazing characters, kept us guessing at every turn, and left us stunned with every twist encountered.
This novel was well-written and layered, and so very descriptive, every scene could be pictured in your minds eye. The level of detail this author included in the story took this book to an entirely different level and made it one of my top reads for this year. Character development was superb, world building was phenomenal, and the entire story will evoke a range of emotions from you and trust me you will feel it all and then so much more, as it was that intense, that steamy, that heartbreaking, that violent and that twisted
A King So Cold was a fantastic page-turner that kept me engrossed and riveted right up until the very end and I did not want it to end. It’s a story you will want to go into blind but one you must read if you love both fantasy and romance. Definitely worthy of more than 5 stars I would highly recommend this novel to all lovers of romance.
Well this was one meaty book it was long and it took you on such a magical and wonderful adventure it was such an amazing read.
I will admit i don’t read many fantasy books at all, I’ve read a couple of series over the last decade but not many but when you see that Ella Fields has written one you just go with it and read it because it’s written by Ella Fields no questions needed at all.
Well i was pleasantly surprised by this book, it really did take you on a journey with different mythical characters, you had beasts, violence, just a well rounded story.
This was a love triangle and for some reason as i always do i was going for the one that doesn’t get the queen and i am not sure why.
Let’s just say for some reason i loved the queen she was stone cold and i loved it, she was tough and went through a hell of a lot, but she was strong and i loved that but what i loved most was when she was vulnerable and we did see her softer side but not to often.
I could write so much more in this review but i think this story you need to go in blind, the blinder the better because so much happens and each part of the story that shocks you needs to be experienced.
If you love books that are fantasy, violent, sexy, steamy, emotional, twists and turns that have you reading the same sentence because you aren’t sure you read that right then this is the book for you.
Really really enjoyed and look forward to maybe some more fantasy stories in my future.
Betrayal, lies and love. A war fought between kingdoms. Ella Fields proves once again that the strongest pawn on the board is the queen.
I love a good book with a strong female lead and this one… holy moly. She was tough, magical and confident (I lack all three).
“Nothing was ever as it seemed, and there were no truer words for Allureldin’s princess.”
A King So Cold surprised me in any sense of the word. It was a dang rollercoaster and I tend to enjoy that.
I kept thinking about what to rate this book over and over again. I need to be true to myself and keep my reviews honest. In the end, I settled for 3.5 stars (which is a good rating)
I truly believe the majority of the readers would rate it higher. In a sense, I should have known that this wasn’t my cup of tea, but still, I think it is a good book.
I truly enjoy fantasy in movies, but I do not in books. But still, I fell in love with the blurb and the cover. It truly sparked my interests. So brownie points to the author for letting me not forget her book.
Ella Field’s writing is the first thing that I fell in love with. It has been a while since I’ve read such strong writing. It’s poetic and sublime. Not the soft skilled writing where only one dimension is used. Ella Field’s writing speaks to all the senses. I couldn’t get enough.
The characters in the book were strong-willed, in-depth and filled with personality. The main character, Audra was wicked, smart and passionate. And the men in her life were just to devour. I want them. Both of them in my harem (I don’t have a harem).
I don’t want to explain too much about the storyline only that it never is as it seems like. And this: a strong, dark queen with a traitor of a husband. A war brewing and danger throwing its daggers from all sides. It’s fantasy after all and I pictured it clear in my head (thanks to the wonderful writing of Ella Fields).
Another thing I loved, the passion.
YES.
I couldn’t get enough of that.
There’s one thing that did influence the rating and that was the end. I was a bit disappointed. At one point, I didn’t enjoy where the storyline was heading. I assume some people would have loved it. I’m SURE people would love it. I did not. And I struggled with that. I closed the book and felt unsatisfied in a sense.
I’m writing this with the utmost respect for the author. It’s her story to tell and I respect her choices. I wanted a different end. Dang, did I want it to end in a different way. I’m sure people who have read the book know what I’m talking about.
But still, it’s a great book!
Amazing writing, strong characters and an addictive storyline. A King So Cold by Ella Fields will grab your attention and drag you through a path filled with magic and fantasy.
Ella fields what have you given me the privilege
of reading. If this is what we are coming to expect from you when you write fantasy books then you woman deserve a standing ovation. I’m gobsmacked with this ingenuity of yours. This story has blown my expectations out of the water. I’m just WOWED.
What do you get when you have a restless queen, so cold like the winter snow, that everything she touches is dismal and grey like her heart. That’s the picture you will read about but holy hell what a tremendous turn of events that comes to light from this story.
You will read about an arranged marriage like no other. Princess Audra is betrothed to Prince Raiden but what starts off as a marriage to unite both kingdoms, turns into an upheaval of betrayal and loss of the worst kind. You see Prince Raiden is not who she thought he was and since she exiles him from there kingdom everything should be fine. But a broken heart knows no bounds when their is revenge looming in the air. You see, Audra finds out that her husband is marrying another and this is where the story takes you on a journey you don’t see coming.
For the fans of fantasy and darkness and the romance buffs. This is for you . I absolutely recommend this read. There is nothing like it out there.
My first fantasy romance from this author.
Fantasy romance never my fav genre for there’s so many details I have to remember. But Ella bring her signature angst romance and I decide to focus in that for the way she bring angst in the table is just superb!
A young Queen who was betrayed in the most terrible way.
A King who would do anything to gain what he wants.
A Lord who have a secret of his own.
A bound that can’t be cut simply between this three main character.
Heavy angst romance full of betrayel, intrigue, details of fantasy world that just mesmerizing, characters that developing and unexpected event with turn and Twist…
Once again Ella fields knocks me on my ass by delivering a book so far removed from my norm that I’m spellbound, hooked into this fantasy world and the characters she has created.
It did take me a while to settle into my groove but only because I kept having to stop and think Ok who was he/she again? Where does this character fit in? Once I’d got a handle on names / places I was off at a galloping speed. The twists and turns is typical Ella Fields, she has thrown so much at this book and its a good decent size too. So much character and plot development it is easy to see this author has planned and finely tuned everything.
I’m was beyond thrilled when I work out that although this was a magical world the trope turned out to me my all time go to read to constantly tear my heart into pieces. Girl! Your imagination and attention to detail overwhelms me with every read this author just gets better and better. I have loved and hated some characters equally. What I will say, this is quite bloodthirsty and it did send shivers down my spine on several occasions. No detail spared!
Difficult to review without giving away too much when all I really want to say is READ THE BOOK! you won’t be disappointed even if fantasy is not your thing, you never know, it soon may be after this!
Holy epicness! I love Ella Field’s writing, and I was ecstatic when she announced that she was releasing her first fantasy. Fantasy is one of my favorite genres to read and the way that Ella writes so beautifully in the romance genre, I knew this book was going to be out of this world. And I was right. Oh my gosh, Ella outdid herself with A King So Cold!
This book was everything I was hoping for and so much more than I knew I needed. The writing is beautiful as always, she had me captivated from page one. Audra is so different from any heroine I’ve ever read about. There is so much depth to her character.
You know those books that consume you heart and soul? They suck you right into their world and yours doesn’t exist for the duration of the book? That’s what it was like reading A King So Cold for me. I read a lot of books and it’s not often anymore that while I’m reading, my world disappears and it’s just me and the world that the author has created, but Ella managed to teleport me to Allureldin inside my own head.
A king So Cold is written so well you would never guess this is her first fantasy. The writing is so beautiful, the story telling out of this world, and the world itself that she has created?! It’s fantastic. It’s intriguing. It’s everything. The characters are so well developed, as is the story. It takes you on a magical journey.
This book is not to be missed. Whether you have read fantasy before or not, I feel you will love this absolutely captivating read. If you have read and loved her other romances, you need to read this book. Trust me. It’s one of those must read books. I had the biggest smile on my face after finishing this book and my heart felt so full. I didn’t ever want to leave this world.
I know technically, pretty much everywhere, you can only give five stars, but this was an out of this world six star read for me. And if we’re talking on a ten star rating level? It’s an eleven. I don’t lightly give out six stars. This is only my first six star read of the year.
*ARC received in exchange for an honest review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.*
I gotta say, that poetic blurb pulled me in the very first time I read it and everything since I’ve been obsessed with the anticipation of it all. Then the cover was revealed and I was floored, the book is gorgeous, it’s stunning… i want to pet it! Then that lovely ARC landed on my kindle and I started reading, well Ella James took me on a ride that I have never been on. Ella James killed fantasy! I’m not a huge fantasy or paranormal lover. I do have a handful of authors whom I will read every word the write. Ella James is in that handful. I’m so glad she is in I would have missed out severely. I think the best thing about Miss James’ story is the lack or boundaries, or rules. There is nothing off limit within these pages.
I don’t want to even try my hand at really dissecting the story, I’ll never do it justice. Ice read the last 4 or 5 books Ella James has written and I haven’t found one that wasn’t remarkable. However, A King So Cold makes me wish for adjectives better than amazing or fantastic, or even better than perfect. It had all the elements that I need in a book. The plot of the story had me mesmerized… I had to know what happened and it didn’t matter if I liked the characters or not. Which brings me to the characters, I was invested in the people, humans and mystical, I was in this story for them! The dialog between the characters kept me enamored. I was fascinated with the developments, the betrayals. Audra was such a vivid character. Just all of these elements hit me and made this story unstoppable!!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
Wow! A King So Cold completely captured my attention and wove a magically mystical weave from
start to finish. The complexity of the storylines that interwove with the characters was spellbinding and so well written that as a reader I was so immersed into the book that I felt like I was in this beautifully written world along for the ride of my life! I can’t wait to read more of this series and to delve into the mystical world that Ella creates.
I am not sure what I was expecting when I decided to read A King So Cold by Ella Fields, but it was so much more then I ever expected. I had never read a fantasy book before and did not realize that is what this was, but once I started reading, I could not stop. The world Ella created was so easy to get lost in.
Princes Audra of the Moon Kingdom was betrayed. So, she sent her husband away, moved on and is known as cold and cruel. When she learns he will now marry another, he must be punished. So, she searches for him, Raiden of the Sun Kingdom. Then there was Lord Zadicus. Where did he fit in all this? And yet, Audra was not always the person she is now. Can she remember who she once was? A King So Cold by Ella Fields was intriguing, full of twists and captivating.
Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.
Happy reading!
A King So Cold was a nice change of pace and totally unpredictable. Ella Fields has written something different, something outside her norm, not what I’m used to, something darker and sometimes disturbing. I was addicted to this story and totally loved it but in the end, I’m left wondering how I really feel. It was a long book and I loved every chapter, but I didn’t finish with a smile only face. I was kind of sad, but I still wonder why?
The characters were fascinating, the plot was captivating, and the twists and turns were shocking. I read ever spare minute I had. I read when I should have been working, should have been cleaning, should have been taking care of kids. This was a story that refused to be put down.
I’m not so sure how I’m feeling after The End! It wasn’t what I was expecting and so I’m unsettled. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great ending, it just threw me for a loop. Just as I thought we were headed down the path I envisioned, BAM! About-face! Off we go down the other path.
I flip-flopped throughout the book with the path I wanted Audra to take. Both Raiden and Zadicus were strong male leads fighting for her heart. Each one deserves her, each one loves her, but which one shall she closest? She had some very hard choices to make. She’s a magnificent ruler who has lived a harsh life and learned her place. She made a fabulous heroine and I would welcome the chance to read more about this world and these awesome characters who touched my heart.
Ella Fields is a phenomenal writer and she hasn’t disappointed with A King So Cold. It’s a mythological, fantasy adventure ride that kept me glued to the pages but I always feel somewhat saddened when it comes to love triangles, and this book is no different. Not everyone can win the girl and I’m not totally settled with the way this one went.
What did I just read?!
Oh. My. Goodness. Ella Fields “you rob me of breath.” Is it no wonder why I love your words so?!
First of all this book was an EPIC read! Second of all, to fully appreciate the magnitude of me stating this, you have to understand that this girl is not a fantasy fan. It’s my least favorite genre in the romance world and I normally avoid such books. Ella just changed my mind with this one book!!
I could not put this one down and am already planning a re-read just in case there was one morsel of detail that escaped me on my first read. Unforgettable yumminess!
I am BLOWN AWAY by the murder, mystery, and manipulation within the pages of this dark, angsty read that I could hardly walk away from even as I turned the final page. I love a book that keeps you on your toes, and never lets you feel like you have a predictable understanding of where the author is leading you. Believe me with creation of our cold Queen Audra, her traitorous husband Raiden and her intriguing lover Zadicus….you will be white knuckling every inch of your Kindle as this story unfolds.
If you love scandalous romance, political scheming, lies, deception, family drama that’ll provide enough folklore to rival the test of time, and a love triangle that will literally steal the breath from your lungs…THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU!
I lost track of the sheer number of twists in this book, which of course makes it all the more noteworthy and savory. One minute things were headed up, the next Ella took a sharp right followed by a dash to the left. I’m telling you that she left no stone unturned as she mesmerized her readers with this storyline. Zad, Raiden and Audra were ENTHRALLING from beginning to end.
As usual, Ella delivers a delicious read that will linger on your heart and mind for weeks to come at the very least. There is something for every single type of romance lover in this one book. Heat, humor, strong heroine, suspense, drama, mayhem, and an epic ride to the finish.
I cannot recommend this one enough!!
Well done Ella!! I look forward to whatever comes next.
4.5 stars
I’m not a fan of fantasy/paranormal books but when a favourite author writes something like that, I’ll definitely take a chance on it.
It’s a great story, so many unexpected moments and twists and turns that keeps you reading and wanting more and more till the last chapter.
A new world that mixes humans and mystical creatures but the feelings are all the same, one’s heart wanting what it can not have.
Going back and forth between years ago when they had a relationship and now when everything it’s changed, the chapters unveiled so many mysteries and questions but never misses the chance for a happy ever after that we’ll get it at the end of the heartbreaking story.
Just leave it to Ella Fields to completely ruin other fantasy/historical/supernatural books for me. A King So Cold was my first book fitting into the fantasy realm and I can’t imagine anything will come close to being as brilliantly written. This genre-bending story now firmly sits on my metaphorical top shelf as one of the best books I’ve ever read.
This story, at its core, sometimes very deeply buried, is a love story so brutally pure it will take your breath away. Audra is the star of this show and she is one of the most complex, pained, beautiful characters I have ever read. A young queen hardened too young by the sins of her father, engrossed in dark secrets and betrayal, she yearns to make her rule her own. Only two men such as Zadicus and Raiden can even come close to holding their own against Audra. THESE MEN! Whoa, wow, astounding! Not to forget about the other vital, supporting players in this story…you think you know, but you don’t! LOL!
The personal growth of Audra in this story is something remarkable on its own. Add to that the lust, love, war, cruelty and tragedy that leaps off the pages…absolutely mind-blowing! The vivid intricacies of the settings and subplots will leave you reeling and teetering. The twists will leave you audibly gasping. I very much purposefully have not said much about the main storyline because this is one you truly should dive into blind. I will end with this—if you think that fantasy or supernatural themes are not your jam, think again. Ella has written a lasting experience in A King So Cold. And DAMNIT it would be effing brilliant on screen!
5+++ stars for this beguiling extraordinary book! I can’t recommend it enough!!
It’s been a very long time since I’ve read a fantasy novel, but I absolutely loved this one! Anything and everything Ella writes blows me away and this book was no different.
Audra is very cold-hearted and she doesn’t take orders from anyone, she dishes them out. She is set to marry Zad in a marriage of convenience, but learns of ex husbands upcoming nuptials. A man who betrayed her turned her heart to ice. When she betrayed she wiped his memory clean. She stops Raiden’s wedding and kidnaps him with the intention of draining (killing) him. Audra decides she wants his memories returned and we get to see a different side to her and what caused her pain and hatred for the world. She is a powerful woman with intention and boy does she get what she wants.
Highly recommend, even if you are not a fantasy reader. This book goes beyond fantasy and straight to your heart.
I do not read a lot of fantasy books, but Ella Fields has hooked me with her first furore in fantasy. A King So Cold surprised me in the best way and I loved it.
This story was intense from the very beginning. It’s dark, gritty, and completely magical. And it wouldn’t be Ella Fields without her unique brand of angst. The characters themselves are complex. On one hand, they are cruel and horrid. And on the other, they are caring and devoted. There’s so many truths and lies within this tale. Who to trust? Who is the villain? Not to mention the twist and turns. Truly mind blowing. Even if fantasy isn’t your usual go to, this book undoubtedly grabs you and never lets go.
I am deliberately keeping this review vague, because I think this is one of those books where it’s best to go in as blind as possible. The best way to experience it first hand; the romance, the characters, the wizardry and the magic. Sublime writing, strong characters and an addictive storyline. A King So Cold will grab your attention and take you on fantastical journey.
This fantasy book is absolutely brilliant, Ella Fields surprised me in the best way, I bow to her writing and the world she built here, the characters from Audra, Lord Zadicus and Raiden to the rest are amazing and just every page dragged me and never let me go I had to drink lots of coffee the next day but it was totally worth it. I now need an audiobook to experience it all over again, I need more! Standing ovation a more than 5 star read, on top must read and definitely on the list of top must-reads this year! Bravo!
Reading A King So Cold was incredible! It was angsty, it was steamy, and Zad was so dreamy… Sigh.
I loved this book. It was based in fantasy and mysticism, and it had a queen who didn’t take on anything she couldn’t handle, and she did it with style. I loved Audra’s tough, feisty and no-nonsense personality. I loved her quick quips and her spitfire attitude. Also, you do not want to mess with her. I couldn’t imagine meeting her in real-life. I was too intimidated by book Audra.
Let’s talk about… relationships within the book. There is a small theme of family running through the book and how it has affected Audra and her relationships in the future. It was interesting to see why Audra was the way she was, and my heart was there for her as well.
Now for the steam – 10/10 for this! I mean, it was hot! I was soo for it! Because damn! dem boys got MOVES!
Angst city right over here! In true E.F style, it was angsty to the core. It was unpredictable, and I swear I was going crazy from all that was happening here. I mean it pretty much starts off with high energy, but it builds and builds, until whammo! You’re hit with a tsunami of angst and misgivings! It was truly addictive!
And let’s not forget Vanamar. Such a cutie!
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my read. Fantasy is not usually my go-to for romance. It’s not my first choice, but I loved it. It was energetic, angsty, vengeful, and steamy. The queen is a total boss and I would love to be as a kick- a** as her in real life. A total hit!
Highly recommended!
An intricately woven labyrinth and vivid portrayal of fantasy, magic, power plays, betrayal, angst, twists and turns, with a romantic element that ultimately had me releasing a bated breath of relief at that ending! This is not a genre I’ve preferred or read before so therefore because Ella Fields wrote it, and I’ve loved everything else she’s written, I read this with an open mind. Give yourself a leisurely span of time to fully immerse yourself into the story and at 60% the revelations and foreshadowing of what’s to come for and from the cold queen really take effect!
Ella Fields has outdone herself with A King So Cold. You would never know that this was her first fantasy book but she does a fantastic job of creating her world, the characters and their story lines, all in true Ella Fields fashion. We have royals, and of course the love, the hurt, the betrayal, and the angst, oh the wonderful angst that Ms. Fields delivers so well in her books is there from start to finish. And the steamy sexy parts are right there along with all of the twists and turns we are given while on this wild ride. I cannot wait for more in this world and writing genre from this author.
