Lies, love, lust and power. Bestselling author Ella Fields delivers a sexy, gritty, wickedly addictive fantasy romance. All my life, I’d known my marriage would be arranged. What I never expected was to fall in love. My betrothed was arrogance dressed in royal finery, and I longed to both disappear and step closer whenever he entered the room.As princess of the Moon Kingdom, and daughter of the … Moon Kingdom, and daughter of the cruelest king our land had ever seen, I was well-versed in deceit and debauchery. The Sun Kingdom’s sly prince was no threat to me.
Assuming that was a grave mistake. For the ever-present smirk, irritating charm, and adoring gleam in his eyes began to melt the ice encasing my heart.
All too soon, hatred turned to love. I was captured by something I’d rarely experienced before—happiness.
But I should’ve known better.
After all, I’d been raised by a monster. And little did I know I was about to marry one.

A King So Cold is unlike anything else Ella has written before, she jumped into a whole new genre and realm while still giving me what my angst heart desires some major as angst!
I’m going to be very honest from the moment Ella told us about these characters my heart was already torn between Zad and Raiden and who I wanted and she made sure I couldn’t decide until the very last moment. All I knew was that I was rooting for the baddest, fierce and kickass Queen in all the land.
The word building is this story was captivating, intriguing and utterly flawless. She managed to suck me right in from the very first page till the last keeping me on my toes with every spelled bond page.
The characters and the world that she created for this story was so fascinating. Even though this is a fantasy Ella keeps true to her words about this being a romance. And no doubt about it this was a romance.
It’s so important to go into this story blind, however you won’t be disappointed. Ella takes you on a journey like no other. Having you crave for more of these characters and this world.
This book was phenomenal! Wow , I’m speechless right now , this was a fantasy with the typical Ella Fields trademark angst and boy oh boy did she hit it out of the park with this story ! All’s I’m going to say is YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK ! Take a chance even if your not a fan of fantasy, because I guarantee this book will change your views on reading them ! Well done Ella well done on creating a world I’m now highly invested in and taking my mind of reality even if it’s just for a little bit.

Fantasy usually isnt high on my go to list to read, but Ella Fields is high on my go to author list so I knew she would not disappoint with A King so Cold! Ella has created a magical world filled with darkness and gore, beauty and wonder. It is a captivating story with unique and powerful characters. There are so many unexpected and jaw dropping moments. You really have no idea what is going to happen next or where this story is going. There are not only so many layers within this story, but to each character as well. They were just as surprising and unpredictable as the storyline. You definitely want to take a chance on this book! I didnt want to leave this world and hope Ella brings us back there soon!!
I had absolutely no idea what to expect when I signed for this one. There wasn’t even a blurb yet, not that the blurb is giving anything away…but still. Just knowing this was written by Ella Fields was good enough for me.
That said, I am gonna be honest and say that I got confused on more than one occasion when reading this one. I am not a huge fantasy reader, and one of the reasons I am not is because English is not my native language, and fantasy novels tend to get a bit wordy…therefor leaving me a bit confused. Of course, this is not the author’s fault, this is just a personal flaw of mine 😛
I could have done with a bit worldbuilding though..
Putting aside the fact that I got a bit confused at times, I still really enjoyed reading this one. If there is one thing this author is very good at, it is building up the tension. Things get revealed one piece at a time, making the reader hunger for more information.
I absolutely loved queen Audra, she really reminded me of a young version of Snowwhite’s queen from the series “Once Upon a Time”. Such a kickass lady 😉
Now for the shocker…this is a “love-triangle” story and we all know I am not a fan of that particular trope. Surprisingly though, I didn’t mind in this setting. Maybe it had to do with the fact that this wasn’t like any other fantasy book I have ever read and it certainly wasn’t what I expected. Which is very refreshing for a change I must say.
I do advise everyone to jump into this one blind….don’t read too many spoilers 😉
I love this author!! This book is not like anything she’s written before but it is phenomenal. If you love angst then this is a must read for you. I’m not sure Ella could write a book I don’t love. Her writing is magical. Do yourself a favor and read it and then read her previous work as well you won’t be disappointed.
This unique fantasy love story is told in true Ella Fields style, giving us all the angst and turmoil we’ve come to expect from her!! Her ability to bring her characters to life is truly amazing. The love triangle between the Queen, the King and the Lord is heated and powerful. Three very dynamic characters all fighting for what they feel is theirs!! It’s impossible to guess where the story is taking you. Ella keeps you guessing throughout. I found myself loving them all and not able to decide what end I was hoping for!! This mystical world that Ella has woven isn’t my typical reading choice but honestly I was whisked away to a land where the Royals rule, the punishments are harsh and the passion is intense!. I hope Ella Fields will give us more from this world! I totally loved it!!
This book was absolutely amazing. It has you hooked from the star constantly figuring out what is going to o hapen next. Elle did a fabulous job and everyone should read it
Ok First off, this cover should draw you to read this book alone!!! I have not read a fantasy book in a while and when I was told Ella was writing one and it was totally away from what I am use to from her, SOLD!! I love when authors take that chance on a new book and kill it!!
This one is amazing with all of the twist and turns but then again what good book doesn’t. I took my time reading this one as it was hefty but I also wanted to savor each word and immerse myself into the world she has created.
In a world of Humans, Fae and Royals you get a bit of everything with a some moments of WTF and No she didn’t, thrown in for good measure. This one will stay with me for a while and I will definitely re-read before the next book comes out to jump back into this fantasy world Ella has created.
I’ve read every book Ella Fields has written. With each one I’ve gotten a different story that has engaged me, tested me, broke my heart and put it back together. Her newest romance, A King So Cold, does something a little different. It takes me to a world I’ve never been. She’s created a kingdom and it’s people, a fantasy world with magic and betrayal, powers and spells, wars and spies and, of course, a love story.
The journey is not without harsh words and unseen twists. I was on the fence, clinging to one, questioning the other. It’s a a romance steeped in fantasy within a mystical world. The versatility of Ella Fields’s writing is refreshing. It’s definitely the reason that I will continue to read her stories.
Man oh man! This is one of those books that made me anxious to know how it ended. I’m in awe of how this author made my heart flip back-and-forth throughout this book. Let me just say, all hail the queens! And by queens of course I mean our Queen author for writing this magnificent piece of work, and our queen in the book, Queen Audra.
Part of what made this book so much fun to read was just how terrifyingly awesome Queen Audra was. She was born and bred to be malicious, but even black hearts can be tender. I love how the story brought forth the transformation of the queen’s heart, through love. Always through love.
Her King has deceived her in the worst way possible and she battles with self-doubt and the ramifications of what he’s done. Her friend and closest ally is truly her saving grace in all this.
Who is worthy of the Queen’s love? Is the Queen even worthy of love? I’m telling you, this is a book that made me desperate for multiple HEAs. I was panicking towards the end, wondering just how this brilliant author would end this angsty love story. I can’t recommend this book enough if you’re looking for something filled with angst, deceit, a strong female character, desperate love, and wrapped in a fantasy theme.
A King So Cold
Ella Fields
Magical fantasy! Beautifully written! Very entertaining and captivating! Alot of twist and turns!
“Your heart is about as good as the existence of your soul— a rotten fu***** lie.”
Oh my goodness! This story is beautifully told. As with Ella Fields, things aren’t clear cut and the lines between good and bad are blurred.
I wasn’t sure what my heart wanted and my opinions of these characters were constantly changing, right up to the very end.
There are very few authors that I will let play havoc on my heart. Ella Fields is one of those few that I will allow to toy with my emotions.
A King So Cold is different from what Ella Fields has written in that it’s fantasy yet it still has the typical Ella Fields style.
Ella Fields made me fall in love with a story that is from a genre I never ever read. And she did it with expert flourish. A King So Cold proves how brilliant Ella Fields is. Because it shows her amazing diversity, depth of writing and power of words. It’s a dark fantasy romance where all your wicked fantasies will come true.
Audra was throned as the queen of the Moon Kingdom after her father’s death. And her husband Raiden, king of the Sun Kingdom is someone she holds guilty. On the other hand, Lord Zadicus of the East has always been by her side but everybody wants something from her. She is feared by all. Everyone knows her as this cruel, merciless, heartless and evil queen. But is she really that devious? Or has life left her no choices? As she stands at the crossroads facing a war, she has to make a decision for herself and her kingdom.
I cannot believe this is the first fantasy romance Ella has written. The plot is super complicated and intriguing to the maximum. Fantasies can be hard if there are plot mismatch and facts are not straight. But she did a fantastic job with it. All the different types of creatures and species. All the different kingdoms with distinct personalities. Yet it’s a dark ,angsty, heartbreaking and mindblowing romance to the very core. The battles happen in deep forests and stormy desserts and cold seas. But they also happen in hearts. Audra, Zadicus and Raiden are all very intricate characters. Deeply flawed and twisted yet so perfect for me! They have too many shades to count for me. Audra is a true queen with her power, her confidence and also her heart that actually holds the power of love. The men are arrogant, dominating, possessive and alpha just like I love them. But again they are very different. Raiden is more towards the cunning and plotting side. Whereas Zadicus is steel and softness combined. He stole my heart with his loyalty, devotion and honesty. But Raiden’s darkness calls to a different part of my heart.
The story sucked me inside the tornado of drama, emotion and tension. And I am totally destroyed. The royal conspiracies. The magic and spells. The intense passion. The devastating heartaches. The swoonworthy emotions capturing my heart and then ripping it out of my chest. A captivating story line with puzzle pieces keeping me under a breathtaking spell. I am still dizzy and breathless. The shocking twists were priceless and even the ending left me craving for more.
A King So Cold by Ella Fields is twisted, heartbreaking, sensual and exceptionally well written. I am rendered speechless by this deviant, violent, complex and soul deep fantasy romance. Another outstanding and extraordinary creation by Ella FIelds.
Received ARC for honest review
I’ve never read a true fantasy or historical book, but I have loved all of Ella’s books so
I thought “Why not?”.
Well, that ended up with me adding a “fantasy” shelf to my Goodreads. 🙂 Because I think I might need to read more of these.
The things I like about this trope is that these people can do whatever they want, even if it’s not socially acceptable and it’s OK. For those of us that love forbidden romance, it’s awesome.
Now, this story. It’s full of angst and suspense. Murder, revenge, Mayhem. Double-crossing. I was not too fond of any of the characters in the beginning, but either they changed my mind, or they changed as time went on because I liked most of them by the end. I loved the Shakespearean type dialogue between the characters. Audra blew my mind away with her sharp tongue, quick wit and bravery. What an amazing heroine! The romance part was something that I was not expecting and pleasantly surprised. (don’t want to spoil any of it)
This is a book that I will never forget.
” We are no riddle.” “We are certainty mapped out by the stars” ”
A King So Cold was pure magic! From beginning to end I was completely engrossed in this one-of-a kind book world. This was unlike any other Ella Fields read BUT it is definitely my new favorite! Full of twists and turns, secrets, fantasy, more twists, angst & betrayal…. & just when I thought I had this book figured out well I wasn’t even close…. Seriously, AMAZING… and one of my favorite reads of 2020′
A King So Cold is a magical journey through a time where Kings and Queens rule with an iron fist and a sharp tongue. There are battles worth fighting and some you wish to see the wave of the white flag. Ella doesn’t give us a “typical” romance in her newest addition to the literary world, but that’s what she does best. It’s exciting to jump into her work not knowing what you’re in for.
In true Ella fashion her words are an adventure. You will love the characters one minute and want to throat punch them the next. There are highs and there are lows, sass and serious heat. This is a fantastical experience that you will be enamoured by.
At the heart of this story is a beautiful romance. A love so strong even a black heart can’t deny. Bravo, Ella! Once again you’ve given us something original, fresh and fun.

A King So Cold was my first book in the fantasy romance genre and Ella Fields blew me away with it. This world she created with the book is a masterpiece. I was hooked from the first page and couldn’t put the book down. Ella’s usual writing style is 100% present here—angst, drama, and intense emotions! It’s hard to believe that this was her first book in this genre.
In this story the main characters are Audra who is the queen of the Moon Kingdom. Her husband Raiden, the King of the Sun Kingdom and Lord Zadicus whom has always been by Audra’s side. Audra is a cruel, evil queen and feared by all. I was drawn to her story immediately. Behind her cold heart there is much more and I couldn’t get enough of the breakdown of those hard cold walls that she has built up around her heart. The emotions this book pulled out of me were incredible. So many layers to uncover in each character. The book is told in past and present times and the writing is flawless.
ARC received via Candi Kane PR in exchange of an honest review.
Lose yourself In this fantastical tale so beautifully woven with a wicked queen and her deceitful king. I was completely immersed in this fantasy world the author so talentedly created with royals, faeries, witches and magic. This story will consume you and it’s in my Top Reads for 2020!
She was a princess who was promised to a prince in another kingdom. It was a strategic opportunity to unite their kingdoms with an arranged marriage. She would do as expected, but nothing more than a marriage of convenience. in name only.
Prince Raiden courted Princess Audra and what started out as nothing more than an obligation, became an attraction and fondness shared between them…or so she thought.
On the most special day of her life, she was betrayed in the worst possible way. The rebellious princess became a ruthless queen and her newlywed husband was exiled.
If only King Raiden stayed gone, but the Queen was not through with her revenge. She is about to summon a ghost and I’m not sure she is ready for the aftermath.
This is not the story you expect. It is so much more than I imagined. I was torn between forgiveness or just moving forward and leaving the past behind. I wavered in my allegiance until I was clear to whol the Queen belonged.
The Queen is a ruler of her kingdom, so her decisions must be steadfast and her people must respect her. She is seen as heartless and at times cruel, but she is so much more. She is a protector and she takes care of those in her inner circle. She has much responsibility and takes her role seriously. She is brave and fights beside her people.
This is an amazing tale of love and loss, betrayal and forgiveness. It is a wonderful escape into a magical world that I did not want to leave. The author continues to captivate me with every story she writes. This was exceptional.
A King So Cold is a fantasy romance written by Ella Fields. If you are like me, you probably know Ms. Fields for her angsty contemporary and new adult romance. Well, in this book she brings us something entirely different in the best way possible. A King So Cold is richly drawn with vivid imagery that transports you to a mythical kingdom ruled by a cruel princess and inhabited by magical beings. I was astounded at the masterful world-building, especially for the first time fantasy writer. The setting is as complex as the characters and nothing is what it seems. This fantasy romance, while quite action-packed, is relationship driven. And I’m not just talking about romantic relationships. I absolutely adored the friendships that permeated this book. The characters are complex and there’s real character development that occurs throughout the story. Audra is such an amazing heroine. She is so flawed and yet there’s a kernel of something that you can empathize with from the start. I could go on and on about the hero, but I feel like doing so would spoil the book, so I’ll just say that I loved everything about the way this played out, unconventional as it is. I went into A King So Cold thinking I was reading one story, but it turned out I was reading something quite different. I’m usually pretty good at predicting plot twists, but there were a few here I didn’t see coming at all. There are so many twists, plots and sub-plots, that you really need to go in blind in order to get the full experience. This book is super steamy, it’s definitely an adult fantasy! Unexpectedly, this turned out to be one of my favorites this year! Can’t wait for Stray Prince!
“Those at the mercy of a monster do not get to bargain.” I meandered through the gate, and it rolled to a close. “For when they dare try, they simply continue to bleed”
A king So Cold is my first book by Ella Fields, and i absolutely loved it. It’s captivating, steamy, addictive and full of secrets & lies. I just couldn’t put this book down, from the very first page, Ella takes you on a journey like no other.
I don’t want to say too much, because I think this is one of those books, where it’s best to go in blind. So you can experience it first hand, the romance, the characters and the magic.
I can’t wait to see if Ella gives us more from this world, and these characters.
