Lies, love, lust and power. Bestselling author Ella Fields delivers a sexy, gritty, wickedly addictive fantasy romance. All my life, I’d known my marriage would be arranged. What I never expected was to fall in love. My betrothed was arrogance dressed in royal finery, and I longed to both disappear and step closer whenever he entered the room.As princess of the Moon Kingdom, and daughter of the … Moon Kingdom, and daughter of the cruelest king our land had ever seen, I was well-versed in deceit and debauchery. The Sun Kingdom’s sly prince was no threat to me.
Assuming that was a grave mistake. For the ever-present smirk, irritating charm, and adoring gleam in his eyes began to melt the ice encasing my heart.
All too soon, hatred turned to love. I was captured by something I’d rarely experienced before—happiness.
But I should’ve known better.
After all, I’d been raised by a monster. And little did I know I was about to marry one.

This is a must read fantasy romance, even if that isn’t your usual genre. This book will pull you in with its amazing storyline and characters. If you have read other books by this author know that this book is a lot different from her writing.
4.5 s
Adult Paranormal/Fantasy Romance is not my go to genre. I have a couple of authors who write this genre that are on my automatic-buy list. I now have a third. Ella Fields can flat-out write. The genre is irrelevant. A King So Cold is an impressive debut for Ms. Fields into the Adult PNR/Fantasy world.
This story is about young Queen Audra of Allureldin. It is a concupisent tale filled with intrigue, betrayal, vengence, and the violence of war. It is also a tale about love in many forms – instant, friendly, familial, star-crossed, romantic, and unrequited. And, in true Ella Fields’ fashion, it is filled with more angst than a teen-agers diary.
The characters are unique in many supernatural forms. They possess magical powers and ride the most fantastically beautiful animals. The scenery is extreme in climate, yet at the same time gorgeously exotic in appearance.
The plot is an intricately woven tapestry twisted by power struggles between sexes, races, classes, and countries.
Most of all, A King So Cold is a heart-rending story about the lengths one will endure to hold on to Love. It is an action-packed, power-charged romance that will hold the reader under enchantment for untold hours at a time. It will also have readers eagerly awaiting the next book in this series even before the cover of this one is closed.
Can I just begin by saying Fantasy Romance is not my cup of tea…..at all. However anything from Ella Fields will forever be an automatic download to my kindle. I went in very hesitant but she blew me away with this one and I was pleasantly surprised. This has signature EF all over it. The feels were on a 100%!!!!! The angst, the love story, the steamy stuff were all on point. Honestly it wasn’t anything I expected but everything I needed. Cant wait for the next one.
OMG!!!! This book was not what I was expecting at all, and in the best way! Ella Fields just wrote one of the best fantasy books, with the most epic love story that I’ve maybe ever read. Audra is basically a Halsey song personified and the two royals that are after her heart have definitely stolen mine. Intriguing, steamy, well written and the character development…. Holy Fae Lord’s, the character development was so strong in this book. I love a book that is so well done it leaves me aching for more. 5 stars isn’t enough.
What a phenomenal PNR/Fantasy romance by Ella Fields with ” A King So Cold”. It’s modern, magical, dark, angsty, twisted, sexy, hot, full of feels, danger, action-packed, and the drama will keep you hooked. The story even has a love triangle taking place. This beautiful world that Ms. Fields has written about has me enthralled and quite captivated. Loved every single moment in this book and now can’t wait for book 2.
My Rating: 4.5 stars ********
4.5 Stars!
As Allureldin’s princess, Audra had become a product of her upbringing as the daughter of a tyrant. She’d lived her entire life in a castle across the Gray Sea, and had lived with magic flowing through her veins for as long as she could remember. She was the most beautiful creature in all the land, but capable of great destruction. Now 21, and the queen of the Moon Kingdom, her majesty had a reputation as the wicked, cruel, winter queen. She acted upon feelings and instinct, and was powerful and ruthless. She served the crown, and ruled with confidence even though some would like nothing more than to see her pay for her father’s mistakes. She was raised surrounded by games and deceit, and learned early on to bury her emotions. Then she’s betrayed in the most unforgivable of ways and it hardens and breaks her black heart beyond repair. Rage becomes the only thing holding the pieces of her tattered heart together.
The young queen is forced to make decisions that steal every ounce of color from her world, and guarantee her hearts demise. She can’t show vulnerability, but when she hears of her traitorous husband’s upcoming nuptials, she is out for justice. He’s without a memory, and she decides to recount their past so he would remember every way he’d wronged her before she would make him pay. She hated how much he still deeply affected her. The primal magnetic pull she felt when he was near still couldn’t erase all the ways he conspired to destroy her. But revenge must wait with the resistance growing and it becoming more difficult to keep order. A war is brewing whether she likes it or not. Danger is around every corner, and she doesn’t know who she can truly trust. In a world where everyone leaves will one man convince her to risk her heart for love?
A King So Cold by Ella Fields is a thrilling, sinfully delicious, magical, arranged marriage, royal dark fantasy romance about vengeance, betrayal, loyalty, broken promises, secrets, lies, deception, and love. It’s an addictive, intense story full of angst and excitement that will completely consume you!
Five Mellifluous Stars
I am cursing the fact that I cannot rank higher than five stars.
This author is always one that as soon as I see she has a book coming that I add it to my TBR. I don’t even have to have a blurb or a title. I will add it and then wait on bated breath. This book was one of those that I had no idea what it was but I knew I wanted, no that isn’t right, I NEEDED it. Whether she is writing new Adult, contemporary, or even a tad dark, she takes it to another level where I find myself wanting to turn the pages as fast as I can while in the next breath cursing how close to the end I am getting because I never want her stories to conclude. This has never been closer to the truth than this book.
I wasn’t prepared for the world-building. It was, for lack of another way of describing it, out of this world. Even in the realm of paranormal, this book went well above that and doesn’t even really fit there nor does it even belong there. It is magical, spellbinding, brutal, and awe-inspiring. To know that this is her first foray into “PNR” I am gobsmacked. However, I also am not, because when this woman sits down to write, regardless of the genre, she always manages to create something that is stunning and sublime. She is a master wordsmith and the way that she creates a story that invokes a maelstrom of emotions is a true gift.
The characters were stunning. Not only who they were through their actions and characterizations but in regards to furthering the story. There are some that might wonder where this story is going considering that there are two males in lead roles. However, despite the back and forth for a while there between all the characters it never truly felt like I was forced to choose one way or another. I am glad about this because I have always struggled with a love triangle because usually I can never decide and end up wanting the heroine to just become polyamorous, and then all will be right in the world. This is fiction. The struggle is real. The author did an amazing job leaving it up to the reader to decide for themselves what this really was. She also left it at a very good point to continue. I have to say THAT makes me VERY happy because it leaves me hope that this amazing world will be continued in the future. I am glad for that because I would have hated it to only be in this book and never touched again. Add in the steam that came close to melting my iPad and this book was proof that heaven truly does exist.
I have a favorite word, one that means the world to me because one of my favorite people that is no longer with me taught it to me when I was very young, mellifluous. It means pleasant to hear, sweet or musical and for me, it doesn’t just apply to music, instead, it also applies to words or things that touch my soul. This author is the truest form of that word for me and this book? Yeah, this book is mellifluously sublime. I cannot recommend it enough. This is my favorite from this author and of 2020.

It took me a couple of chapters to get into this one but I think it was because it was such a change from what I’ve been reading lately. It felt almost like reading a gothic historical romance novel set in a fantasy world.
A fierce young Queen facing a war and battling her feelings for two powerful men. One previously held the title of King and the other meaning to step into that title.

Initially I pegged this as a love triangle type romance with a jaded Heroine forced between two older and powerful men. Well, Let me tell you, this story delivered so much more than that. Audra is the Queen with the heart that barely beats, I loved her! She’s beautiful, ruthless, and completely unashamed. She takes pleasure and pain whenever she sees fit. My kinda woman!
I’m not going to give anything away on the two main male characters, Zadicus and Raiden. Just know, I was never torn between the two, I was rooting for one particular man from the very beginning!
We see the growth of each main character that was both painful and beautiful. A little adventure and a lot of steam, this had such beautiful story telling! I recommend reading this book when you’re in the mood for some detailed fantasy. There’s Dark & Powerful Royals, betrayal, plot twists and blood shed! Definitely different from what I’ve seen from Field’s previous work and I’m interested to see what comes next!
I’m not normally a fantasy genre reader, but there was something about this story that just drew me in and kept me hooked.
Maybe it was the scorching hot love triangle, or anti hero royals who I couldn’t help but love, or maybe the passion and angst.
Whatever it was, the author created a story in a magical world that worked for me. The story and character development was in point and likable.
Top it off with some twisted surprising triangulated situations amongst Zad, Audra, and Raider and I was a very happy reader.
Full disclosure: I DON’T read fantasy, well, I haven’t by choice for a very long time.
However, the beauty of Ella Fields’s words had me captivated. I didn’t want to put it down!
The storyline had so many twists, turns, betrayals and banging that I was completely riveted.
Absolutely absorbed.
I loved it so hard that I will be reading anything else from this series, without hesitation.
5 Royal Stars
Welcome to a world like no other, full of betrayal, lies, regret, heartbreak and love. Ella has woven one heck of a fantasy story, that will slay you in the most beautiful way. My heart is tattered and bruised, but it was worth every single word. I could not put this book down and can’t wait to see what happens next.
Although this book is quite different from what I normally read, it’s written in a way that was intriguing & captivated my attention from the very start. The characters were interesting & to be honest I wasn’t sure who to root for. The author makes you despise them for the things they think & do. But if you are an Ella fan then you know looks can be deceiving & she will throw in some interesting & surprising twists. True to Ella’s style & work she manages to bring the emotional turmoil of betrayals & discovering hidden truths. This was a fantastic journey introducing us to new characters in a magical time of power & royalty. Looking forward to the next book!
I received this ARC for an honest review. Thank you!
A King So Cold by Ella Fields is the story of Audra, a queen who was betrayed by her husband Raiden and Zadicus. This story is a combination of fantasy and romance and I loved everything about the world created by the author. Ella Fields is a wonderful author who writes stories where you love and hate characters and you end up loving the story.
“I’m just me. Like it or don’t, but don’t you dare try to change it or say you weren’t aware.”
Audra is the queen of the Moon Kingdom, a kingdom, who is the cusp of war but she finds out that her husband wants to marry another woman and she wants to find him and to lock him in her dungeon. She wants to make him pay for his betrayal. I love Audra because she is a strong woman who doesn’t make apologies for who she is.
Prince Raiden betrayed an Audra and he was exiled for his betrayal. After he was captured and keep in Audra’s dungeon, he thinks that he has a second chance to rule the kingdom with Audra but she had other plans with her husband.
Then you love it anyway and you love it, twice as much.
Lord Zadicus, was always there for Audra. He protected her, he was her friend and her lover. He challenged her to be herself. He was her confident and the only person in which Audra can trust. I love him because he always protected Audra and loved her.
A King So Cold was a complex story with complex characters and a complex world with fairies, witches, magic, and mythical creatures. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a story about revenge, betrayal, duty, and love.
I want to be completely honest with my reviews and say that this read was a little hard for me to get through. But I pushed through and enjoyed the ride. I don’t normally read books in the fantasy realm, but because I have enjoyed some of Ella’s other books I wanted to give this one a chance. I also found myself really intrigued by the teasers and early reviews of this book. But, I realized I am not a fantasy reader in the way that it comes with a lot of background. I found myself lost and not totally grasping the world at times and having to do a little research to understand. Still, with all that being said, I think that overall this was a good book and I genuinely enjoyed the romance of it all.
Once I got used to the fact that this isn’t just a book about Audra and Raiden and that Zadicus isn’t a character that was just going to go away, I begin forming genuine connections with each character. I normally shy away from love triangles so it was hard for me at first to understand the actions of the characters. But as the story unfolds, you make it through some of the twists and turns and you find out that there is so much more to each of their stories. And y’all Audra is a completely different heroine than I’ve ever read about before. She can be so ruthless at times, but seeing into her past and watching her handle everything that comes her way along the journey of this book will make you understand why she is the way she is. And at the end of the book, I wanted more of her most of all. She is a heroine you won’t be able to forget.
This book is packed full of everything you love from Ella, but also so different and such a new avenue of writing for her. I think this is a perfect read for all my fantasy lovers! If you’re like me and have only dipped your foot into the fantasy realm I would say proceed with caution and know that it might be a bit of a longer read for you because of the depth.
An amazing story of love, betrayal, and forgiveness. This is a genre I hardly ever read but I am so glad I read it. This author always pulls me into her stories from the beginning until the end and this one was no different. I fell in love with this story. I was so captivated I couldn’t put it down. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!
This is not the kind of book I usually go for. I’m not a huge fan of books set in any other world/time but my own, it’s well out of my comfort zone. So why read this book when chances are it’s not going to be for me? Well, I’m a huge fan of Ella Fields, I’ve read all her other books and she’s never let me down yet so why not take a chance? I’m so glad I did. I can’t remember the last time I stayed up reading until 5am. This book was exactly what I needed right now. I completely lost myself in the story. This has everything in it that I love about Ms Fields books with the added bonus of been something completely different to what I usually read. Audra is one of my all time favourite heroines, I loved everything about her. Honestly I never expected to like this book never mind love it but I did. It’s such a whirlwind read, a proper adventure that somehow sucked me in. I really didn’t want this book to end, everything about this story and the characters had me completely engrossed, and I really hope this isn’t the last I read of this world Ms Fields has created.
I am honored to have a chance in reading this book from Ella Fields. I normally do not mind reading fantasy. There are angst and turmoil along with steamy love scenes. I do like the world and character build-up of this story. Audra became Queen at the young age of 19. Her father, King Tyrelle was a tyrant that held with a heavy hand. She was supposed to be vowed to Zad because of her Mother, but later her father wanted her to marry Raiden. A meeting set their feelings a foot. But, little did she know something was admist Truthfully, Audra’s character irked me at first. But, my feelings changed almost at the end. Ok, I do love the writers style of writing to draw us into the story with her angst and twists and turns. Anyways, if you like reading fantasy world romance, then you’ll love this. You know I realize I’m total crap at explaining things. So, in quick terms, just read at your own leisure and get drawn into Audra, Zad and Raiden’s world..
Let me start by saying: give Audra a chance. She may start off as a cold hearted bitch and honestly proceed like that for most of the book but give her a chance. I did. I almost gave up on her and I’m so glad I didn’t. I hated her and grew to love her. Once you get the back story you’ll understand.
I didn’t think I’d like this book after starting it. I’m not big on fantasy but this book rocked it. This is such a twist on fantasy and dark and suspense that you won’t know which way is up. If you like Game of Thrones you’ll love this book! I can’t wait to see what else is to come!
This is my first time reading a fantasy story. And wow this author really can write in any genre. I devired this Mammoth of a book in a day. Highly recommend this story
5 SPECTACULAR STARS!! OMG….This fantasy story was phenomenal!! I do not read a lot of fantasy books, but Ella Fields has hooked me. I felt like I was in the story land with these characters from this authors spectacular storytelling. The story had all the feels with lots of sexiness, drama, action and so much more. I can’t wait for the next book. You must read this book.
