Lies, love, lust and power. Bestselling author Ella Fields delivers a sexy, gritty, wickedly addictive fantasy romance. All my life, I’d known my marriage would be arranged. What I never expected was to fall in love. My betrothed was arrogance dressed in royal finery, and I longed to both disappear and step closer whenever he entered the room.As princess of the Moon Kingdom, and daughter of the … Moon Kingdom, and daughter of the cruelest king our land had ever seen, I was well-versed in deceit and debauchery. The Sun Kingdom’s sly prince was no threat to me.
Assuming that was a grave mistake. For the ever-present smirk, irritating charm, and adoring gleam in his eyes began to melt the ice encasing my heart.
All too soon, hatred turned to love. I was captured by something I’d rarely experienced before—happiness.
But I should’ve known better.
After all, I’d been raised by a monster. And little did I know I was about to marry one.
Contains dark themes and a HEA. No cliffhanger. Recommended for 18+

Violently beautiful.
This book was magic and deserves far more than 5 stars. One of my readers recommended it to me, and I am now a fan of Ella Fields.
I honestly was completely taken back by this book, it took me a bit to get into but once I was HOLY COW IT’S FREAKING AMAZING! It was complex and had some twists but it wasn’t super hard to follow. It was a complete story in it’s own even if it has a bit of a cliffhanger. I’m new to the author but after this book I’m ready to read more of her work. The story gave me all the feels, I felt love and lose, anger and happiness definitely surprise. I don’t want to leave any spoilers but this was five stars and I’d give it more if I could!

Where do I even begin with this incredibly captivating fantasy romance??? This book had so much tension and feels and I truly felt like a fly on the wall in this magical world with the incredible descriptions of everything about this book.
Ella Fields has completely transported me to an entirely new world filled with treachery, lies, lust and love.
The storytelling in this tale is sublime with an epic plot line that will leave you wanting more. A King So Cold has all the beautiful intricacies of monumental fantasy with added heat, action and a tonne of intrigue.
I couldn’t get enough of Audra, she is a femme fatal that had me girl crushing hard. She is everything you want from a heroine and more. I hope that we get more of her and this stunning world.
A King So Cold was a definite change from my go to genres but in this instance change was most assuredly a great thing. The spellbinding fantasy world the author created within the pages of this riveting book kept me enraptured until the very end. I loved the twist and turns peppered through this story that kept my emotions constantly invested. There were definitely some frustrated groans, laughter, unintelligible rants and a tear or two along the way as I devoured this book well into the early hours of the morning. Audra was a fierce, strong yet beautifully broken queen and I loved how her character evolved throughout her story. I so hated to leave this enchanting world behind but after this consuming, angsty, steamy and thrilling beginning I’m beyond intrigued to see what’s in store next.
Blew me away!
This is a fantasy romance unlike any I have ever read. Even if you aren’t a fan of fantasy usually, Ella brings her signature angst and beauty to this world of anti-heroes and high stakes royal scheming. Audra is my favourite kind of heroine, strong, gorgeous, and broken; I loved witnessing her evolution throughout the novel!
BRILLIANT!! OMFG!! ELLA FIELDS OUT DID HERSELF WITH A KING SO COLD!!
This Book is NOT like any of her Other Books and She FREAKN BLEW ME AWAY!! She went OUTSIDE the BOX with this One!! I couldn’t not put it down and DEVOURED it in one sitting!! She Left me SPEECHLESS throughout the whole Story to the End!!
Just Brilliant Ella Fields!! It’s the Reason I’m One of your #1 Fans from the Very Beginning!!
If I could give it MORE then 5 Stars…It would be Infinity & Beyond!!
AND NOPE….NO SPOILERS!!
I have no words!! This book is just EVERYTHING!! It’s a must read!!
This book was effing EPIC!!!
The world building was fantastic, and the story
was mind blowing. I haven’t read a book by this
author that I didn’t end up loving, but this one
knocked it out of the park. Not only did it consume
me, it’s definitely my favorite of hers. I love that
she decided to write in this genre, because it gave
her readers the chance to see how talented she is
but also that she’s an amazing storyteller.
She built a world and characters that you love, but also
some you love to hate.
Her heroine is a BAD*SS Queen with a heart of gold
but b*lls of steel. There’s so much more to it than this,
but I don’t want to give away spoilers away sooo that’s
all I’m saying, lol
Looking forward to the next book, because she teased at
a next one
Oh the tale she weaves. What a master writer. This story is beyond exceptional. Another world created in such a way you can feel and see yourself there. Rich in description and details, this magical world Ella Fields has created takes you ther first hand. Every story crafted by this author always leaves me wanting more or her next best thing. Fantasy adventure and romance combine for one breathtaking story!
Ella Fields + Fantasy = A MUST FUCKING READ!
I read everything Ella puts out without fail, because she can bring emotions out of me like no other! Before I go into one of her books, I brace myself for impact. I’m not saying her books just make me cry. No! Her books make me feel every emotion imaginable! I’ll be outraged, devastated, happy, laughing, and turned on sometimes in the same chapter. She has the ability to rip out my heart, stomp on my soul, and make me feel like I need to thank her for the abuse. Writing like that is something that should not be missed, so I make sure I never do!
A King So Cold is a completely different subgenre than we usually get from this unicorn. It’s fantasy romance, and since fantasy is one of my favorite genres, I couldn’t have been more excited to hear the news! If you want to know if I enjoyed this book as much as everything else I’ve read by this author, the answer is YES!
The storyline is surprising and intriguing. The characters are complex and interesting. The romance is angsty, complicated, and beautiful, and the writing is exquisite. I love everything about this book!
I won’t be discussing the plot, because there is A LOT that could easily be spoiled if I do. I recommend going into this one blind. Just know that everything you love about Ella Fields is still present in this novel. Her writing shines in the same way it always does. The story fucks with your head and your heart, and the hero and the heroine make you want to kiss them and beat them in the head with a shovel depending on what point in the story you’ve reached. It’s unlike any other fantasy romance I’ve read, and I can’t recommend it enough!
It’s also one of the only books I’ve been able to get through since quarantine began. If that isn’t a compliment, I don’t know what is! Fantasy romance fans, this one’s for you!
Fantasy is not a genre I typically willingly read but I really enjoyed this story, Audra is definitely a cold hearted Queen except when it comes to Zad.
I can’t wait to find out what happens in the next book.
I love reading Historical Romance and when I heard that Ella was going to write Historical Romantic Fantasy I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. I loved everything about this book. The amazing heroine, the Queen, who doesn’t hesitate to kill when needed, but can be vulnerable and in need of the love from the man that truly loves her. The love triangle and not knowing who to trust, the King, Raiden or the Lover, Zad? With war becoming inevitable, it feels ominous, angsty, threats loom and I really want for Audra to have her HEA. Ella did an amazing job with detail and character development. I definitely know when a book has had an impact on me when I can’t stop thinking about it during the day. Even if you haven’t tried this type of book before, I think you will love it because it still has the brilliant writing we’ve come to expect from Ella, the best characters, and incredible ending. You definitely want this to be your next 1 click!!!
4.5 Stars!!
How can a book be so new and so different from anything I’ve ever read from Ella, yet feel soo… Ella Fields! I love the fantasy/paranormal genre, but haven’t been able to find one that also did new-adult well. A King So Cold is such a refreshing read to the new-adult genre and a must read for first time fantasy readers!!
I went into this book knowing it was a fantasy read and that my heart would probably be ripped out because Ella Fields wrote it. So, pretty much blind. THE BEST DECISION. This book is THICK–for good reason!! The joys of fantasy mixed with royalty is this beautiful historical-like setting that is just so gorgeous to experience. The world-building is beautiful and the character’s are girth-y and tangible. It was really like I was witnessing the play-by-play in real time.
Reading about Audra and her feelings were so vivid and evocative, especially when it got dark. I loved Audra as a main character and I felt so many different emotions with, for, and about her. She’s deeply misunderstood, yet perfectly clear about who she is. I admire her strength and fear it at the same time?? Most of all, I really fell in love with Audra, more than our hero surprisingly. She’s possibly become my favorite heroine of all time.
The love triangle is definitely going to keep you on your toes. One moment I’m rooting for him, and the next I’d be rooting for the other him. And then I’d find myself in this loop of who’s-it-going-to-be??? Honestly speaking, the first half dragged a bit for me. Even so, it was enjoyable because I was invested into discovering this world and unveiling more about Audra. There are secrets scattered about in this book and it becomes so worth it to uncover them one by one. Once you hit that second half of the book, however, it gets ROLLING. As in I GOBBLED the second half in like zero time. It hurt me, healed me, confused me, enlightened me, shook me etc.
You need to be in it for the long haul with this one. Don’t go hunting for spoilers!!! HE is so worth the wait.
I finished my beta read of A King So Cold at almost 5am. Zero regrets for the 2 hours sleep I’ve had to function on today. This book is all kinds of EPIC!!!!
I tried to send her my usual notes and thoughts today but I am still so caught up in this story I couldn’t. Every time I went to make notes I got re-lost in the story & found myself reading over chapters again and again.
This is fantasy storytelling at its very best. I was completely immersed in this one, very clear images running through my mind & it’s definitely Ella’s strongest writing to date.
The world she created
The characters and their interwoven relationships
The gut wrenching emotions
The betrayals and subterfuge
Every single thing made it one of the BEST books I’ve EVER read. It truly blew my mind!!!!
It’s hard to fathom this is her first foray into fantasy – I for one hope she stays a while & writes us many more of these extraordinary tales…
Absolute perfection!
I loved everything about this adult fantasy romance. The profoundly flawed characters yet so damn lovable, the magic system, the story evolution with twists at every turn, the Pride and Prejudice vibes early in the book and the inspiration from history of European monarchies.
The main characters, Audra, Raiden and Zadicus are royals, half human, half Fae, creatures of great power that can influence the elements and rule over the continent of Rosinthe.
Flawed in so many ways but also charming, I liked them even in their darkest moments (which there are plenty of). Well Audra more than the guys .
The story kicks off with Audra finding out that her traitorous husband Raiden, who’s memory she wiped before exiling him to a prison region, is to marry a commoner. Broken hearted after his betrayal 2 years back, Audra decides to restore his memories in order to get some answers about his deceit before killing him. In the same time, Raiden and Audra’s kingdoms are on the brink of war because of Raiden’s exile. Together with her lover Zadicus, Audra must navigate this turbulent political climate but it’s so much harder than anticipated.
This book is steamy, full of action, twists and crucial reveals, not a boring moment in sight for these characters. When you think you have a grasp on where the story is going, something happens to change everything.
The love triangle will keep you guessing till the very end. In a way, both guys are a good match for Audra but I have to say I rooted for the guy she picked from the very start and I was so happy she ended up with him.
Beware of the triggers for this one: rape, murder, torture. There’s no cheating however.
A King so Cold is one of those books that no matter how long you think on it I don’t think you will ever form a decisive decision on if you actually loved it or hated it.
“If you let them see your heart, do not complain when they tear it apart.”
Right off the top one of my favorite things about this story was how ruthless that Queen Audra was. It isn’t very often I see a story where it is the heroine who is hell bent on revenge and it was so beautiful to see, even if it was tragic. When we first meet the Queen the only thing, she wants is revenge and as she takes the step needed to achieve that we start to see that she was just once just a young woman in love and now she is deeply cold because of heartbreak. At first, I was just like “damn, this bitch is cold” but it started to make so much sense the further I got into the story and before too long I was rooting for her even when I wasn’t entirely sure where the story was going. Audra wasn’t a bad person necessarily, she just wanted others to feel the pain that she had felt especially one King specifically.
King Raiden was one of those characters for me where my feelings were constantly changing for him. He might seem like the sweet man in love but underneath all of that there is a much more sinister plan at work. Ella Fields really did her job with him because in the moments I did feel for him towards the end of the story I was so mad that she made me feel for this character who wasn’t entirely what my mind made him out to be. Do I think he was evil? Jury is still out on that, unfortunately.
Lord Zad was EVERYTHING!!! He was that character that you can’t help but love even when you want to absolutely strangle the life out of him. All that happened with his character I never saw coming and that was kind of brilliant because usually I can figure some things out and I have never been happier to be completely wrong.
All in all, I still have NO IDEA how I feel about this book, I enjoyed it really but I just don’t know. There were some seriously tedious long parts but thinking about it there is nothing that can be left out because everything is needed for the story. This review is literally just all rambles, sorry about that.
Moving on, it was a HFN situation so I am not sure if I will continue the story with The Stray Prince. Things can still be improved, and I really want a HEA for the Queen but still not sure if it is worth it. Basically, read it or don’t because I am still at a loss.
F*ck it though, were going with 4 stars because Queen Audra was a ruthless bitch and I was 100% here for it.
If you want a great fantasy romance but want more NA and hot romance; this book right here fits all the marks. A great series. Recommend to all fantasy and pnr lovers.
5 Wicked Queen Crowns
This book is unlike anything that I’ve read from Ella, and it was pure freaking magic. From the moment you open its pages you are transported to a place unlike any you’ve seen. I devoured this book cover to cover in one sitting and let me tell you this is a THICK book, but it was worth every sleep deprived moment. Her words are lyrical as they wrap around you and pull you into this world full of intrigue, lies, love, lust and power.
The contrast of our skin, caramel over snow, was striking, and my heart thumped like a galloping beast. He was a solid wall of charming steel, and I was but a poisonous flower.
I don’t want to give anything away because this book needs to be gone into blind. There is so much that happens along the way with so many twists and turns and lies spilled and truths crushed that its necessary to go in with a blank slate. But I will say this Audra is tough, this woman has gone through so much in her short amount of years. Things that would break many and leave them hollow. But our Queen does not break, she is fierce with her heart and her mind, she does not give easily nor should she. There are times where you want to break for her, but her strength pours from the pages in waves covering you in the power of it, leaving you in awe.
I’d never been kissed like that before. I never knew such tenderness could feel so vicious, as though it might just casually stroll in and lay something vital inside you to waste.
This book was so much more than I expected, I love fantasy reads and this one easily slid right up there with Sarah J. Maas for me. Ella has constructed such beauty and such savagery with her words, this story will seep into your soul and wrap itself around your heart pushing and pulling as the pages go on until you’re a tangled mess, and I loved every heart aching moment of it. I can’t wait to see where she takes us next!! This is definitely a TOP READ of 2020 and should not be missed.
