Picked this book for book club(my adult one) this month. I was completely enthralled in it! Interesting storyline and characters. It was kind of creepy in parts, not enough to make me shut the book, but enough to keep me engaged and wanting more, lol. If you’re looking for a good thriller, grab this one!
I didn’t “like” A KILLER’S MIND by Mike Omer, I LOVED it! Hooks. Cliffhangers. And an incredible twist (or seven) kept me riveted to the pages—with a blanket nearby to hide under when it got too intense!
This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but it won’t be the last. Loved the relationship between Tatum and his grandfather, between Zoe and Tatum. Tatum’s quirky personality made me laugh more than once and Zoe’s wavering inner strength was expertly executed. The murders were so creative and creepy. I loved every page! Can’t wait to dive into his other books. Hope there’s a sequel to A Killer’s Mind. I’d miss these characters if I had to stay away too long.
My only problem is that I can’t give this thriller more than 5 stars. Seriously, best book I’ve read in a while.
Really liked this book..can’t wait to read the next in this series … that anti-social FBI agent being stalked and the know-it-all agent make a great team
I loved this book. Everything about it was right: the pace, the creepy factor, flawed protagonists, the unresolved sexual tension, a believable antagonist, two parallel cases, etc. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
A Killer’s Mind is a fun, disturbing, suspenseful, and generally entertaining read that will keep you coming back for more.
“The embalming fluid promised eternity, but the saline solution added flexibility. A good relationship had to be flexible.”
Zoe Bentley is a forensic psychologist working as a consultant for the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit out of Quantico. Special Agent Tatum Gray was just transferred to Quantico – not at his request.
This is an unlikely pair that end up working together with the Chicago Police Department to try to profile and give their input on a series of demented serial killings around the Chicago area.
Zoe has a troubled past and doesn’t work well with others and Tatum is a bit of a maverick but I enjoyed their developing working relationship.
This is one of the creepier serial killer books I’ve read – and I have read a lot of them (I wonder what that says about me).
I’m off now to read the second book in the series IN THE DARKNESS coming out in June 2019.
BTW, I loved Tatum’s grandfather and his cat.
Never Has A Novel Title So Well Described That Novel
The storyline opens with a serial killer is preparing to kill, embalm, and post-mortem rape a prostitute. A scene like this occurs more than once in the novel. While these scenes are explicit, they did not excessively gory or even titillating. The novel is dark as Criminal Minds on TV is dark. If you like Criminal Minds, there’s a very good chance that you will like this novel. If you don’t like Criminal Minds, you probably will not like this novel.
The heroine of the novel is Zoe Bentley. She is working as a civilian profiler for the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit in Quantico, VA. She has a PhD in clinical psychology and a Juris Doctorate. She recently had made a name for herself in the Boston Field Office on a very public kidnapping case. As a teenage girl, she became interested in forensic psychology because there was a serial killer in her small hometown. She thought a neighbor was acting strangely and could be the serial killer. She went to the library and learned enough to be confident enough to the police to investigate the neighbor.
The Zoe Bentley character is quite well developed because her youthful experience with a person she believed was a serial killer is covered in much detail. You, the reader, observe her personality being forged in fire. This incident still affects her up to the current day. Her personality is filled out with her interactions with her sister, her partner and other characters in the novel.
As I mentioned at the start of my review, there are graphic real time descriptions of death, embalming, and rape but the novel did not dwell on these scenes nor are they titillating but is critical to understand into the killer’s twisted mind. As for objectionable language, there was significantly less that I would expect. There was only one F-bomb in the entire novel.
What I particularly liked about this novel was how well the author wove profiling theory into the novel. Whenever Zoe analyzed what she knew so far, her positions and her thought process were explained with very understandable profiler theory. Later in the novel, she brainstormed with the agent that partnered with her. Again, their positions were backed with profiler theory. This incorporation of theory was so well integrated into the storyline; it didn’t slow the flow of the story at all and for me really enriched the novel and my enjoyment of the novel. All this theory really made me feel that I could see into the serial killer’s mind. The actions of the serial killer completed this insight.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this novel. It turned out to be even richer that I thought during the start of the novel. I will be looking for her next novel. I gave this novel a five star rating. If this genre piques your interest, do not miss this novel.
The Chicago setting is what drew me to this book. The twists and turns are what kept me reading. Excellent start to a new thriller series!
Fantastic read. Grabs you from the start and takes you to a dark place, in the mind of a killer. Highly recommend! Could not wait to discover the ending.
I always love discovering new authors! Read the blurb and it sounded really good so I decided to give it a chance, and I’m so glad that I did!! It was exciting and suspenseful and kept me guessing from the very beginning. And that ending was awesome and made my jaw drop! Can hardly wait to read more by this author
Zoe Bentley is no stranger to death since the age of fourteen in her hometown a string of murders has kept her interested. So as an adult she becomes a forensic psychologist. Now it’s happening again and she is called in and paired with Tatum Grey a Special agent. With many twists, turns, tons of suspense, and intrigue, these two solve the crime, but there is still unanswered questions in Zoe’s life?
Intense and exciting! I love forensic psychologist novels and this one offers a crime thriller inside an ongoing crime investigation thriller with two very quirky and likable main characters. I liked reading this book and its unpredictable conclusion!
This book had my heart racing, multiple times, fantastic read.
I’m a total serial killer junky. They fascinate the hell out of me, and I was in school at one point to be a forensic psychologist.
Zoe was one badass chick, and I wholly adored everything about her.
I’d have loved a little more romance between her and Tatum, but I’ll take what I can get.
This book was incredibly well done, and I cannot wait for book 2
Great new series.
THIS REVIEW IS FOR BOTH THE AUDIOBOOK AND EBOOK VERSIONS
Really great story, extremely well written with the perfect balance of emotionals, action and just a really twisted suspenseful and thrilling plot. I was on the edge of my seat anxious throughout this entire book. The narrator did a wonderful job with these characters and I recommend this book.
This book was creepy – and that’s just the way I like it!
I’m sure others have given reviews citing lots of plot lines, so I’m not going there. I’ll just say this: Good pacing, good story, intriguing characters, a tweaked villain, and a nice twist at the end that you just don’t see coming. It just doesn’t get any better than that!
I love a good thriller. Can’t wait for his next book.
I absolutely loved this book from literally the first page!
Zoe and Tatum are some of the best written characters ever.
The story was gripping, intense and incredible.
WOW!! I couldn’t put this series down. I tried guessing throughout the book, but was never right. The characters are amazing, the relationships, the writing, I didnt want it to end. Its the edge of your seat kind of book.
