New York Times bestselling romance author Jude Deveraux continues her breakout Medlar Mystery series with a twisted tale of guilt and revenge… The small town of Lachlan, Florida, was rocked last year when two bodies were uncovered in the roots of a fallen tree. Despite their lack of investigative experience, Sara Medlar; her niece, Kate; and Jack Wyatt found themselves at the center of the … of the mystery, working together to reveal the truth behind a decades-old secret in the sleepy town. After a narrow escape, they vowed to never again involve themselves in something so dangerous–until Janet Beeson is murdered.
When Janet’s body is discovered, everyone is shocked by the violence of the attack. The sweet little old woman has been shot, stabbed and poisoned, but no one can imagine who would want to harm one of the town’s kindest, most helpful residents.
Sara, Kate and Jack are determined to leave this case to the professionals. But they are soon bombarded by townspeople eager to tell their stories and clear their names with the trio who solved the Morris murders. Even the sheriff is hoping they’ll lend their skills to a crime that seems to have no explanation and no motive. And once the town gets talking, they begin to see that there are more secrets buried in quiet Lachlan than anyone could have imagined…

The second in a series and i can’t wait for the next one. The threesome is back solving crime in a little town in Florida. There’s Sara, writer, wealthy, older and there’s Jack, handsome, rebuilds homes, has a slight chip on his shoulder, and regards Sara as his grandmom and then Kate, realtor related to Sara, redhead, and attracted to Jack. This threesome lives together and protects each other.
When daffy Dora finds Janet Beesom dead, the town turns to Sara for help…..after all, it’s not everyday one is poisoned, shot and stabbed!! There are parts of this book that are so funny, don’t drink a thing while reading or you might choke. And the cast of characters are all do memorable like the Sheriff and Tayla and Gill.
Unlike most cozy mysteries, these three really want nothing to do with solving a crime. But when people start showing up at 1am to confess to hating the dead woman, they have to take the case as the sheriff sneaks over to help out.
It is a study of the dead woman, blackmail, old rumors, kidnapping and murders. Lots of action, gossip, looking into old crimes and some laugh out loud moments. A pure delight that takes your mind off today and puts you into Sara’s home, friends, and a murder no one would blame anyone for. Lots of maybe killers and motives and you’ll be busy trying your best to figure it out. Very satisfying ending!! 5 stars
This is the second book in a series. It kept you guessing until the end. I loved it and couldn’t wait to read the third book in the series.
Good read and fun too.
A good series.
Boring
An enjoyable read with some funny characters.
I love any thing Jude Deveraux writes, I’ve read the other books out in this series
Deveraux never fails to entertain. A JUSTIFIED MURDER is the second of the Medlar series. Someone really wanted Janet dead. She was poisoned, stabbed, and shot. The question is “WHY?” The fearless threesome, Sara, Kate, and Jack are NOT getting involved in this one. NO WAY, NO HOW! Not after their last mis-adventure nearly got Kate killed. The twists and turns in this who-done-it will make your head spin (in a good way).
Number 3 of the Medlar series will be out next month. I cannot wait.
It was an interesting turn of events.
Great beach read with an interesting plot.
I liked it
A bizarre murder of a quiet woman who made herself helpful however she could throughout the community. Who would want to her dead? A threesome of housemates from varied backgrounds who have a knack for solving mysteries, but have promised not to interfere in the investigation.
A stranger in town, does he figure in the mystery? Read A Justified Murder to find out the answers. You’ll love it.
Impact of selfishness of one person on those in their realm of contact.
Jude Deveraux is usually my guilty pleasure, with a lot of sass, sexy, and fun in her books. This novel definitely had these elements, but the ending killed me. I was extremely disappointed in it.
I also didn’t understand why the 3 girls “confessed” when they were near the 2 boys. I didn’t understand why the “book club” confessed so easily either. It just didn’t ring true to me. The ending was totally unsatisfactory to me.
I will continue to read Jude Deveraux, but this one did not do it for me.

Great book
I am really enjoying this new series from Jude Deveraux. The characters are easy to like and they are so witty and fun.
Although I just wish Kate and Jack would make a move towards each other. They like each other.
Love this author and never disappoints. Thanks Joy
How long have we waited for Ms. Deveraux to return to this genre? It doesn’t really matter. This was worth the wait
The second book in the Medlar series was just terrific! Great characters!
