I enjoyed this book but just wish it could have been longer so it could contain more twists in the mystery and less about the food. The food prep is needed because a/ it’s her job and b/ because she uses it to break the ice with suspects but what I found annoying was the blog post from readers, sorry I just couldn’t see the point of them. Other than that I liked the plot idea just don’t listen to this book if you are on a diet hehe. The characters were interesting and a mixed bunch and although I had guessed who the killer was I still enjoyed listening to see if I was right.
A visit to her Gran’s retirement home turns deadly for Allie. One of the residents has died in his sleep which isn’t unusual but it is after the doctor had given him a clean bill of health. What’s more is the Casanova latest girlfriend is Allie’s very own neighbour and she is convinced that things aren’t right. Allie asks her friend police detective Javier to take a look. He quickly establishes that In fact it was murder. But who would kill an old man? Despite being told to stick to doing what she does best cooking, Allie is about to find out. Well she can’t very well leave her Gran living near a killer, can she?
I liked the narrator and thought she did a good job with the voices.
Allie Treadwell is a food blogger but keeps getting sucked into mysteries. While visiting her grandmother in a retirement community, she learns that one of the residents has passed away. She finds that her neighbor Miss Jeanie was dating the deceased and asked Allie to look into his unexpected passing. This re-connects her with her friend, Detective Javier Portillo, who also happens to be easy on the eyes. Allie’s best friend Kate is an investigative reporter and wants the scoop when word gets out that Melvin was actually murdered. As much as Allie tries to stay away from the investigation, she is in the wrong place at the wrong time all too often. Not only do we see the crime fighting side of Allie, we see her blogging talents. She also takes a serious look at her relationship with her boyfriend, Luke, perfect on paper but is he for her. I loved the book, the characters and how the story unfolded. Every character was involved throughout the entire story. This book can be read as part of the series or as a stand alone novel. Can’t wait to see what’s next in this series.
The authors really know how to write a good cozy mystery with likable characters and a plot that keeps the reader guessing. I have yet to figure out the “who done it” in any of the books in this series.
Melvin Fleming lived at the retirement center where Allie’s grandmother is. He is found dead, and Allie thinks someone killed him. Jeanie, one of Allie’s neighbors had a ‘special relationship’ with Melvin. Hmmm, this gets Allie thinking murder. She needs to convince the handsome detective, Javier, that Melvin’s death is actually a murder. Convince her heart that she is working with him only because of the murder. Luke is very jealous of the time Allie is spending with Javier, and even though there was a special date planned, Allie ends up alone on Valentine’s Day! Will she and Luke get back together or will she decide to have a go at the detective….after they solve a murder of course. I voluntarily reviewed a free ARC of this book.
Loved it! Also left a review on Amazon.
