READ THE SENSATIONAL BLOCKBUSTER THAT STARTED IT ALL! Take it from the top in #1 New York Times bestselling author Sue Grafton’s knockout thriller that introduced detective Kinsey Millhone–and a hot new attitude–to crime fiction… A IS FOR AVENGER A tough-talking former cop, private investigator Kinsey Millhone has set up a modest detective agency in a quiet corner of Santa Teresa, … agency in a quiet corner of Santa Teresa, California. A twice-divorced loner with few personal possessions and fewer personal attachments, she’s got a soft spot for underdogs and lost causes.
A IS FOR ACCUSED
That’s why she draws desperate clients like Nikki Fife. Eight years ago, she was convicted of killing her philandering husband. Now she’s out on parole and needs Kinsey’s help to find the real killer. But after all this time, clearing Nikki’s bad name won’t be easy.
A IS FOR ALIBI
If there’s one thing that makes Kinsey Millhone feel alive, it’s playing on the edge. When her investigation turns up a second corpse, more suspects, and a new reason to kill, Kinsey discovers that the edge is closer–and sharper–than she imagined.

She was learning about her characters in the first books of the series, so the first part of the alphabet is not quite as good as the middle and end. Still, the three-star rating is relative: Compared to her other books, this one is a three.
Read this a long time ago, but fell for the main character and wanted to read the remaining 25 books.
All of Sue Grafton’s books are great, more for the characters than the mysteries, but still, I’ve read them all. So sorry she’s gone.
This is the book that made me hungry for more. Very sorry she passed before she was able to finish the alphabet but feel privileged to have read the 25 she did write
I really like this book since it was the first in a big series I was not sure I wanted to read it but once I began the read it got my attention and held to the end. I have now read a number of the books in the series and what I really like is each is an independent story that does not rely one one character for the series that she wrote.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s a good mystery and I liked the main character very much. I’d like to read more of these books and see the character’s growth, but they are too expensive and never seem to go on sale. Oh well…
Love this book, will read the entire series again. A fun book and because it was A, couldn ‘t wait for B
I’ve loved every one of sue Grafton’s starting with this one. So sad that the alphabet had to stop at Y. Thanks, sue Grafton, for all the great books you wrote.
beginnings of a wonderful series
I love Sue Grafton!
Read it a long time ago but loved all of Sue Grafton’s books.
This is the first in a wonderful series.
Great book! Love the characters! Will read more like it !
I have read every book in the alphabet series, love her characters and humor!
Got me hooked on her series right from the start.
Always a good read from this author! Her books never seem formulated.Definitely a page turner.
I liked all of this series. I enjoy funny, witty and a little mystery and detective books.
Kinsey Millhone is a great character. Sue Grafton has a great series of books, easy to read in order (A-Y).
Great mystery with lots of twists and turns. Love the series!
I’ve read all Sue Grafton books. Love them all! Borrowed most from local library, and once I finished one, it was tough waiting for next book to be published. Series is about a woman private detective, her elderly landlord, and several other characters that come in and out each book. Each book is a stand alone story, all of which are mysteries. I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Grafton’s writing, sadly she passed away recently. Thank you to her for many hours of truly enjoyable reading!
