READ THE SENSATIONAL BLOCKBUSTER THAT STARTED IT ALL! Take it from the top in #1 New York Times bestselling author Sue Grafton’s knockout thriller that introduced detective Kinsey Millhone–and a hot new attitude–to crime fiction… A IS FOR AVENGER A tough-talking former cop, private investigator Kinsey Millhone has set up a modest detective agency in a quiet corner of Santa Teresa, … agency in a quiet corner of Santa Teresa, California. A twice-divorced loner with few personal possessions and fewer personal attachments, she’s got a soft spot for underdogs and lost causes.
A IS FOR ACCUSED
That’s why she draws desperate clients like Nikki Fife. Eight years ago, she was convicted of killing her philandering husband. Now she’s out on parole and needs Kinsey’s help to find the real killer. But after all this time, clearing Nikki’s bad name won’t be easy.
A IS FOR ALIBI
If there’s one thing that makes Kinsey Millhone feel alive, it’s playing on the edge. When her investigation turns up a second corpse, more suspects, and a new reason to kill, Kinsey discovers that the edge is closer–and sharper–than she imagined.

I’ve read all of sue graftons books
Great Grafton!
wEll the Grafton novels are great.
The first of Sue Grafton’s books. I enjoyed the first of the series and enjoyed her later books as well. A great author that I miss.
First of the alphabet mysteries, you will be hooked from the beginning, keep reading the rest of the alphabet. Love the journey Kinsey is on.
While I admired Grafton’s ability to spin a mystery, I wasn’t blown away by her writing style. It was too short and choppy for me, and I did not connect with the protagonist at all. It unfortunately did not inspire me to continue with the series.
I loved loved Sue Grafton’s series.
In A is for Alibi, private investigator (and in my opinion, one of the best characters ever written) Kinsey Millhone, is hired by a woman named Nikki Fife to re-investigate the murder of her husband – a murder that she, Nikki, was imprisoned for.
I love this entire series and A is for Alibi is just as strong as those that follow. It’s action-packed, smart, funny and – most important of all – it will keep mystery-lovers guessing and turning pages at top speed to find out whodunit.
The story line was fairly clever, but the main character was disappointing. I’m not into females who are sloppily dressed, no makeup and lacking social grace. The best and most interesting character was her 80-yr-old sophisticated landlord. Also, could have been a bit more action packed but I stuck with and read the whole series because that’s how I am.
The book that started the series, a portentous beginning to the thoroughly entertaining ‘alphabet’ mysteries.
One of my favorite authors. I love this series, and it’s so sad that Sue Grafton died before she wrote Z.
This is the first book in the series. Sue Grafton continues writing the series untilher death. I read all in the series, and recommend it for the enjoyment of a great adventure.
Read all the series; so sorry Z is never going to be written
Love all of Sue Grafton’s books. Her characters are so funny and interesting.
Great beginning to the series.
One of my favorite mystery authors, Sue Grafton, died at the end of 2017. She is famous for her alphabet mystery series. God played a cruel joke on Sue and her fans. She spent 30 years writing mysteries for each letter of the alphabet. Her last book was “Y is for Yesterday.” She didn’t live to complete the final book “Z is for Zero.” These are wonderful characters and mysteries. I’ll miss them
I have read every book and so looked forward to Z is for Zero…
A great series to read.
I really enjoyed reading this book It was a good mystery and I enjoyed her views on things and also liked that it was also funny
I enjoyed reading it.
