READ THE SENSATIONAL BLOCKBUSTER THAT STARTED IT ALL! Take it from the top in #1 New York Times bestselling author Sue Grafton’s knockout thriller that introduced detective Kinsey Millhone–and a hot new attitude–to crime fiction… A IS FOR AVENGER A tough-talking former cop, private investigator Kinsey Millhone has set up a modest detective agency in a quiet corner of Santa Teresa, … agency in a quiet corner of Santa Teresa, California. A twice-divorced loner with few personal possessions and fewer personal attachments, she’s got a soft spot for underdogs and lost causes.
A IS FOR ACCUSED
That’s why she draws desperate clients like Nikki Fife. Eight years ago, she was convicted of killing her philandering husband. Now she’s out on parole and needs Kinsey’s help to find the real killer. But after all this time, clearing Nikki’s bad name won’t be easy.
A IS FOR ALIBI
If there’s one thing that makes Kinsey Millhone feel alive, it’s playing on the edge. When her investigation turns up a second corpse, more suspects, and a new reason to kill, Kinsey discovers that the edge is closer–and sharper–than she imagined.

First in the huge series with Kinsey. Bit rough but Grafton sure gets them polished. Don’t think I’ve read them all but just recently finished U is for Undertow and it still works. I can remember thinking oh to live in Kinsey’s garage apt. A fun series with female PI heroine.
You know who the murderer is in the first 50 pages
A good introduction to a great series
Good first entry into a series
Sue Grafton is the Mystery Magician. Every one of her books is a masterpiece
Have read the rest of this series
I listened to the Kinsey Millhone series on Books on Tape years ago. Decided to reread them from the beginning. She’s a good character and the books are well-written.
Love this series. Well written, well researched. Great books!
All of Sue Grafton’s books are easy reads for airplanes and audibles for long car trips. She weaves very interesting plots around her main character Kinsey Milhone and keeps you guessing until the end!!
I read and enjoyed every one of her books
Love them all, A thru Z. I do need to read Y and Z. Will do soon. Winter….
I recommend read from beginning to end.
A lot of characters to keep track of. I had all but finally got rid of them all.
Happy Reading,
Melissa
The first book in the series of the life of Kinsey Millhone, private investigator. I like the book, read easy and quickly. Private investigators do not have the excitement as police officers so it was expected that there would not be much going on but the mystery of the investigation and actually “who done it”. The twists and turns were good and kept me interested enough to know I really needed to get to the end to find out who did it. I was hoping there would be some reaction written in about how Nikki took the news considering she spent eight years in prison. Would you ever have closure? How would you feel? Maybe there will be something in the “B” book. All in all, I will continue reading the series in between my other reads. I really like a good mystery.
I started reading this series after the author died. She was a wonderful story teller.
Another book I can not remember and do not wish to read again.
I have read every one of these “Alphabet” mysteries and thoroughly enjoyed each one and waited eagerly for the next.
predictable
Just wish she could have finishes the series, I will really miss her books!
I have read and enjoyed all of the alphabet series. Sue was one of my favorite authors. She will be greatly missed by her fans and family. The world has lost the talents of a wonderful person.
Read this a long time ago. Good book to read.
Fabulous. Read the whole series. So Sorry we lost Sue Grafton. Loved her character, Kinsey Milhone.
