READ THE SENSATIONAL BLOCKBUSTER THAT STARTED IT ALL! Take it from the top in #1 New York Times bestselling author Sue Grafton’s knockout thriller that introduced detective Kinsey Millhone–and a hot new attitude–to crime fiction… A IS FOR AVENGER A tough-talking former cop, private investigator Kinsey Millhone has set up a modest detective agency in a quiet corner of Santa Teresa, … agency in a quiet corner of Santa Teresa, California. A twice-divorced loner with few personal possessions and fewer personal attachments, she’s got a soft spot for underdogs and lost causes.
A IS FOR ACCUSED
That’s why she draws desperate clients like Nikki Fife. Eight years ago, she was convicted of killing her philandering husband. Now she’s out on parole and needs Kinsey’s help to find the real killer. But after all this time, clearing Nikki’s bad name won’t be easy.
A IS FOR ALIBI
If there’s one thing that makes Kinsey Millhone feel alive, it’s playing on the edge. When her investigation turns up a second corpse, more suspects, and a new reason to kill, Kinsey discovers that the edge is closer–and sharper–than she imagined.

I did not care for Grafton’s writing or the story.
Love this series. Great characters. Interesting plot and keeps you guessing!
I love her books, I have probably read all of them. I’m disappointed that there will be no Z. I realize she died, but had hoped her estate would get a ghost writer or such to finish the alphabet series.
My favorite of series.
I have read all of Sue Grafton’s ABC series, and after reading X, I’ve started over. I really like her Kinsey Milhone and her landlord Henry as well as those few neighbors and friends surrounding her.
She’s independent, witty, and savvy. For those beginning this series, it is good to know that it gets even better after this one.
Hooked me on the entire alphabet!
Love this entire series.
Good read.
Having read the most recent, I was curious about the initial story in the series. This is great fluff but not enough for me to read any others. The protagonist has lots of experience but has not learned from it!
Tragic that we’ve lost Sue Grafton and her alphabet mysteries.
Sometimes you have to go back to the beginning to appreciate Sue Grafton and her body of work. I know others are missing her books, and re-reading her series again and again. Although I have hard copies of all her books, I am putting copies on the Kindle. Good to read outside with coffee or in doctor’s office.
I have read all in this series – so sad the author didn’t get to finish the alphabet. I highly recommend this series.
I’ve read all the Sue Grafton books. She’s a great writer.
Every book in this series is great!
The first book of a great series!
Loved this entire series. Would have loved to have more of an ending but totally understand why the series would end with “Y”. <3 . Long live Sue through her books. <3 .
The pioneer of female detectives. Wonderful writing. Must read all of this wonderful series.
If you’ve never read any of Sue Grafton’s books in the “Alphabet Series” do your self a favor and start with this one. One of her best , and if you’ve already read it read it again. The characters are original and interesting. The story grabs your attention and keeps you turning pages. Definitely a must read.
Looking forward to reading this series. I
