READ THE SENSATIONAL BLOCKBUSTER THAT STARTED IT ALL! Take it from the top in #1 New York Times bestselling author Sue Grafton’s knockout thriller that introduced detective Kinsey Millhone–and a hot new attitude–to crime fiction… A IS FOR AVENGER A tough-talking former cop, private investigator Kinsey Millhone has set up a modest detective agency in a quiet corner of Santa Teresa, … agency in a quiet corner of Santa Teresa, California. A twice-divorced loner with few personal possessions and fewer personal attachments, she’s got a soft spot for underdogs and lost causes.
A IS FOR ACCUSED
That’s why she draws desperate clients like Nikki Fife. Eight years ago, she was convicted of killing her philandering husband. Now she’s out on parole and needs Kinsey’s help to find the real killer. But after all this time, clearing Nikki’s bad name won’t be easy.
A IS FOR ALIBI
If there’s one thing that makes Kinsey Millhone feel alive, it’s playing on the edge. When her investigation turns up a second corpse, more suspects, and a new reason to kill, Kinsey discovers that the edge is closer–and sharper–than she imagined.

Great start to this series. It’s been on my list for a while and I was not disappointed.
I love A to Y. Great characters, not just the central characters, but all of them. Really good sense of time and place.
Sue Grafton is one of my all time favorite mystery writers. Her stories take place under a pseudonym, but for anyone who has been to Santa Barbara, California, it’s like visiting it again. The characters are wonderful and you will want to read it again and again.
I have read the entire alphabet and loved them all.
I read this a long time ago-don’t remember details, except that I continued to read Sue Grafton’s novels through the alphabet.
Kinsey is quite a character.
This series focuses on her, she is a private investigator, and this is not only an intro to her but her first case. What a case it is too. So many possibilities and unanswered questions… intrigue, more murder and quite a sexscapade!
Would I call this novel brilliant, no, but I can see what sparked the love of this series. I definitely want more!
I want to know what Kinsey will be up to next…. will it be taking off from where this left off? I hope so.
I bought this one on the day of the authors’ passing. I’m so glad I did too, and now I see exactly what the hype was about.
The first Sue Grafton book and a really good one. It set the stage for her alphabet mysteries and I loved them all. I recommend any of her books as they are all different and great. A good read any time.
This book is about a private investigator who is a strong independent women. The flow of writing made this an easy read with humor and surprising twists.
This is the first book about a private eye (Kinsey Mallone), her land lord (Henry) a very bossy woman who owns a bar, and bad guys. Will she be able to put all the clues together and get the bad guy?
All her books in this series are good.
All of Grafton’s a great but she does a great job of introducing her characters in this one.
Good story.
Read the whole series. Great writer with great heroine
Loved the female P.I. If you haven’t read a Sue Grafton book you are missing out.
A wonderful introduction into a wonderful series. The series’ protagonist, Kinsey Millhone easily one me over and is easily one of my favorite book characters. Well paced and leaving you wanting more, I strongly urge anybody who enjoys reading mysteries. For those who don’t, this may be the series that changes your mind.
I totally recommend this book and all the ones to follow.
Great series
I wish she had lived to write Z!
I liked this one well enough that I have read the series, most of which was interesting.
Love, love, love the alphabet series. Humor and mystery and fun characters make a great read.
