Cordelia Jameson is left alone after her brother’s death. He left her with $5000 which she knows won’t last forever and she doesn’t want to be alone. She wants a husband and children. She decides to become a mail-order bride and goes to Brides for the West to sign up. David Thomas survived his sociopath wife’s machinations. She was hung for attempted murder and kidnapping, though he would have … he would have divorced her in any case. He’d do anything to protect his four-year-old daughter Margie. But now that he’s moved out west, he realizes he needs someone to care for Margie and he needs a wife for himself since he wants more children, too. He’s vowed he won’t allow his emotions to get involved, not after what he went through with his first wife.
While Cordelia is living at the boarding house, waiting for her mail-order groom, her brother’s former partner, Richard Lynch, finds her. He demands the money that her brother left her. She refuses and he backhands her sending her to the floor. If not for the interference of another of the brides, he might have beat her to death.
When Cordelia leaves to marry David, she believes she’s left Richard behind her. But like a bad penny, he shows up in her new town making the same demands only this time he threatens Margie.
Cordelia knows he won’t go away and even if she does give him the money, when he finds out that David is rich, he’ll be back again and again, blackmailing them. He has to be stopped. Now. But how?

I enjoyed every minute of “A Husband for Cordelia” and was totally immersed in all that was happening from beginning to end. I loved the strength of mail-order bride Cordelia James and liked her dynamic with the other characters especially her husband David Thomas and his four-year-old daughter Margie. Ms. Woolf blew me away with another great historical romance and I look forward to more from this gifted author. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Oh how I loved this story. Cordelia is a gem like no other. She is a great women for David and a more loving mother for Margie. Margie needs a very special mother after her own she had. The Richard thing is something that was a big thing back then and he got when he deserved in the end. The added gifts were what they needed.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This is the second book in Cynthia Woof’s “Brides of Golden City” series. As in her other books, Ms. Woolf provides fascinating insights into the reasons women became mail order brides and how this decision affected their lives.
Cordelia becomes a mail order bride after her brother dies. His ex-partner, Richard, who had bought him out of his business, now wants that money back. When Richard threatens Cordelia, she decides to start over. She moves to Golden City in the Colorado Territory where her new husband, David, owns and lives on a ranch with his daughter, Margie.
However, Richard follows Cordelia to Golden City in order to get his money back. Richard has no conscience. He stalks Cordelia and her family and has no problem using her husband and Margie to get what he wants.
What follows is a love story with an explosive villain who will do anything to get his money back. Even though the reader knows there will be a happily-ever-after, Cynthia. Woolf skillfully creates an absorbing historical novel filled with excitement, intrigue and adventure, and an evil villain.
Readers can read this book without having read the first book in this series. However, that book tells the story of David and Margie. I highly recommend that you read that book first.

This is a wonderful story with endearing characters. David wanted a wife to help care for his daughter. Cordelia wanted a family so she became a mail order bride. When Cordelia’s past catches up to her it threatens her new family. This is a wonderful story and I would definitely recommend it.
Danger stalks Cordelia as she strives for a new life while tragedy has stricken David and his daughter. Both must overcome to find their love and safety for the family in the future.
Wonderful and heartwarming, two people come together that needed each other. David Thomas from the first book in the series and Cordelia Jameson, who needed desperately to get away from New York after her brother died.
Thomas was left with his daughter Margie after his wife had really gone crazy. She had tried to murder their daughter’s governess, Victoria, claiming the child she carried was David’s. Now he had moved out to Golden City, Colorado, where Victoria had married and was very happy.
He needed someone a mother for his daughter so he could run his ranch and his bank. He knew he would never fall in love after his tragic first wife.
Cordelia needed to get away from her brother’s old partner who wanted the money her brother had left her claiming it was his. Being a mail order bride was the answer.
But danger may lurk as these two marry and take a journey to find happiness. Perfect.
This is the story of David and Cordelia. David is from the previous book A Husband for Victoria, although you do not necessarily have to read that book to enjoy this one. David needs to find a wife to be a mother to his daughter and take care of her as the little girl is just to much for him and the housekeeper to take care of along with the day to day running of David’s ranch. David decides to contact his friend and ask her to send him a mail-order bride.
Cordelia’s brother, the last of her family, recently passed away leaving her with some money but little else, so Cordelia decides to become a mail-order bride and she is chosen to become David’s wife. However, before she can get packed and leave, she is threatened and attacked by her brother’s former business partner. He wants the money that her brother gave her. Cordelia escapes to Oregon City and David hoping that she has left her troubles behind her. Cordelia soon learns otherwise.
To find out what happens, read this wonderfully told story and discover if David and Cordelia can find love together and make a loving family for David’s little girl and see if the bad guy gets his just reward.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I was glad to read David’s story. Glad he found someone he could love and trust. After what he went through with his first wife, he deserves it. As Cordelia was getting ready to travel to meet David, her husband to be, her brother’s business partner came to get money from her. She refused to give him the money and he beat her. Once she was married and settling in, the business partner show up again to get the money. He will stop at nothing to get it, even kidnapping an innocent little girl. Cordelia will do anything to stop him from hurting those she loves. Will he kill her before she can save them?
What a well written wonderful book. She has heartbreak loosing two people. One of them being her brother. He leaves her a fortune so she decides to be a mail order bride and hopefully get a husband and kids who are a blessing to her and loves her. She finds someone who has had a horrible experience with his first wife. They hit it off and things are great. One thing though is her late brother’s business partner wants the money her brother left her. He causes her trouble and follows her to her new life and causes trouble there too. Can she and her new husband work this out? I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.
Cynthia Woolf tells us a story with well developed characters, plenty of action plus a romance. I loved this story and it didn’t hurt that the adorable daughter has my name. I look forward to the next book.
A year after David’s wife was hung for kidnapping and attempted murder, he was ready to seek a mail order bride because his daughter needed a mother. He was certain he would never lose his heart to another. Cordelia lost her fiancé to the war and resigned herself to live as a spinster in her brother’s home. After her brother died from illness, she found herself alone and without family. With the inheritance her brother left her, she decided to become a mail order bride. The day before she was to travel to Colorado to meet the man she was to marry, she had a visit from her brother’s ex partner in business. He wanted her money claiming it was his since the business he bought from her brother failed. After abusing her with his fists, he was interrupted by a another woman living in the boardinghouse. He told her he would be back. A great short story with a brave woman venturing into an unknown future looking for a chance to have love and a family. She is followed by the man who wants to do her harm, and she vows to do what is necessary to keep her new family safe from this evil man.
Set once again in Golden City, this mail-order romance has suspense and adventure as Cordelia realises that if she wants to have a family of her own, she needs to head out West for a husband. David Thomas has decided that whilst he will never ever give her heart to another woman after his disastrous marriage, his little girl Margie does need a mother. Cordelia’s first ugly encounter with her brother’s ex-partner is on the eve of her departure from New York, but when she encounters him again in Golden, she knows that the lives of those she has come to love are at stake. Both and David and Margie worm their way into her heart and Cordelia will do what it takes to keep them safe. When the worst possible scenario occurs, Cordelia is as good as her word as she fights for her family. The story is well written, giving insights into the era and painting a picture of early Western society. Although characters from a previous book in the series appear in this one too, it is nevertheless a standalone. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
The author has penned a story which is Book #2 in the Brides of Golden City series with great character development and lots of action. This is Cordelia and David’s story, including David’s young daughter, Margie. There is kidnapping, murder, a villain from Cordelia’s past, good friends, a loving community, and romance. I enjoyed this story very much and highly recommend it. Once you start reading it, you will not want to put it down until you have finished
