This was a great story. It is based on a real hurricane that hit the northeast long before storms could be tracked and predicted as they are now. It has characters that you care about and a twist I did not expect. I couldn’t put it down,
OK reads
This book is wonderful, and falls easily into both romance and historic genres. It tells the story of Lily Dane and Nick Greenwald and how they met in the years before WWII. It also introduces us to their friends, Budgie Byrne and Graham Pendelton during their college years; and includes family life in NYC, and summer life along the eastern Rhode Island seaboard. It is filled with family situations, romance with both the delight and the angst of love, the revelation of family secrets, and the fight for life during the eastern seaboard during the 1938 hurricane that ravage the area.
I read it once several years ago and enjoyed it a second time.
A well written book and a great story!
Late 1930’s Rhode Island, and a summer spent with old memories. I was riveted by the way this book was told through clever time jumps. I spent a lot of the book, thinking, “What the heck happened to these people?” The answer to his question was doled out in a way that will keep you hooked.
Evocative and engaging
It was quite captivating! Made me want to read more by this author.
I really enjoyed this book.
The story was interesting and had some depth that I wasn’t expecting.
There was a definite buildup and climax and I appreciated the style of writing.
The character development was witty and quenched a readers desire to get to know the heroine. Well done.
The best book I read this summer!
I love the theme of perseverance in this story. From the hearty New Englanders facing a hurricane to the influences of Prohibition and the Great Depression. The characters were original, and no matter their outlook, you kept wanting to know more. A gripping tale that twists an expected trope in a refreshing way. It has everything a good story needs.
Great read
Great story!
I love the historical writing of Beatriz Williams. The way she moves between the past and current timeline of the story keeps you guessing on what truly happens until the end.
Beautifully written and poignant story brimming with New England Charm! Perfect beach read!
Part of a trilogy…so you get three different perspectives
I really enjoyed reading it and liked the location.
Couldn’t put this book down. I love novels set in this period.
A wonderful female protagonist to cheer for in this story. Good characters and although it wasn’t a mystery per se, there are mysteries in the story that eventually the reader gets to. Well-written and very enjoyable.
A great summer read or when you Jewish it was summer
