Jean Geant creates a vivid description of Scotland for Dierdre and Alasdair to meet and fall in love. The story paces well through the highs and lows as they are faced with sharing their secrets amidst the dangerous Scotland uprising. Wonderful steamy story with a good dose of danger to spice it up even more!
Deidre has an ability that she doesn’t understand. Is it what killed not just one, but two husbands? Some whisper that she may be a witch. When she finds herself traveling with a man she’s seen in visions, a man her father wants her to seduce, she wonders if he will die, too. Or will he be the one to break the curse?
Jean M. Grant is really making me rethink my opinion of the romance genre. She’s well on the way to making me a fan.
The book kept me hooked from beginning to end. I absolutely fell in love with the characters. They are all well-written and interesting. Deirdre is strong, independent, and brave and I definitely want to see where her story goes from here. Listen to the audio book if you can. The voice actress is absolutely perfect!
I really enjoyed this novel, and romance isn’t my usual go-to genre for reading. I loved the setting and backstory. The characters were all well-developed and interesting, and I thought the magic was a fantastic addition. This book is perfect for any fans of Outlander!
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for historical fiction, romance, or fantasy!
Historical romance is not a genre I usually read–but A Hundred Kisses is different. It is hauntingly entertaining and action-packed. Jean Grant is meticulous in her research, which lends historical accuracy. A must read!
A historical romance that takes place in the late late 13th century during Scotland’s war with England and the rise of Robert the Bruce. Deirdre is cursed with two dead husbands, each of whom had died under mysterious circumstances right after she married each one. Pregnant by her second husband and as her father’s heir, Deirdre’s laird father scrambles to find her another spouse and sets his sights upon Aleck/Alistaire, an injured traveller on a secret mission for the Bruce. A sweet romance during the chaotic times of war when lairds were pushed to claim their allegiance to England or the Bruce. I enjoyed reading this book as well as the previous books within the series. Great storytelling!

What dreams may tell us!
I love well written-stories about the highlands and Ms. Grant has delivered. This story with a touch of paranormal was a fantastic read. There are action, adventure and mystery will the curse be broken or is it something else? I have no hesitation in recommending this intriguing and inspiring piece of work. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
A Hundred Kisses #2 – This is my first read by this author and I loved it. The well written storylines just kept me glued to the pages. Unknown to me I started with the wrong book, but it didn’t ruin the story; I understood everything that was going on since the author was so detailed oriented.
Set in Scotland in the late 1200s, I was fascinated by the author’s vivid description and my happiness to find such a strong character as Deirdre. The characters range from good to evil and everything in between, along with their emotions. Just as you think you figured everything out there’s a twist, again. The romance, the intrigue and the suspense make for a wonderful way to pass a few hours.
If at all possible, read A Hundred Breaths first since those storylines continue on into Kisses. I found these two books on Booksprout. 5*
A Hundred Breaths #1 – In my confusion I read the books backwards; do Not do that! Spoilers and knowing what happens to some of the characters in advance affected my enjoyment of this well written and well thought story.
The storylines are intriguing, suspense filled and keep the reader immersed until the last page. I couldn’t put the book down and I had just read A Hundred Kisses. The author does a wonderful job of describing Scotland in the mid to late 1200s. Her characters run the gamut of good to not so good to downright evil.
There are so many interesting twists to this tale that no one will be bored. The romance, the “magic”, the past of the “tribes” that compose the population and the abilities of the characters weave a tapestry that ranges the all the emotions; love, horror and understanding, just to name a few. I found these two books on Booksprout. 5*
Jean Grant is an author to watch! This is the first time I opted to read a medieval romance, and I did so strictly because I had read this author’s blog and liked her writing style. The book did not disappoint. This novel drew me in with the first chapter and kept my attention throughout.
This is the story of Deirdre MacCoinneach and her inability to keep a husband. Both her first and second husbands died on their wedding nights. But she loved neither.
At a time when overthrowing the Scottish throne weighs heavy in the hearts of everyone around her, Deirdra meets a man she has long dreamed of, Alsdair Montgomerie. Years before, Alsdair’s mother burned at the stake for witchery. As Deidra and Alsdair begin falling for each other, readers find Alsdair is caught up in the efforts to overthrow the throne, and Deirdra has some witch-like abilities, herself.
In this medieval twist, Alsdair and Deirdra set off for Uist together and become immersed in danger and turmoil.
I can’t convey how much I liked this author’s style and pacing. Excellent read if you enjoy romance and/or medievil!
If you like historical fiction coupled with romance, you may enjoy A Hundred Kisses. It takes place in 1296 Scotland when the English king wants to take over Scotland and various Scottish landlords want a Scot to rise to power instead. The land is divided, and friends have become enemies.
The story follows Diedre MacCoinneach who is cursed in marriage. (Her first two husbands died on their wedding nights, and a fiancé died before their marriage marriage.) When Alasdair Montgomerie comes upon their keep, her father wants Diedre to seduce him and make him believe the baby is his, thus having to marry his daughter. Diedre does run off with him, but for her own purposes—to meet her unknown aunt, who can potentially tell Dierdre about the mother she never knew and to learn if there is any truth to the curse and Dierdre’s strange visions. On their journey, they slowly begin to fall for each other, but it becomes clear both Dierdre and Alec (as he is known to her) are keeping significant secrets from one another. Add in a dangerous baron, rumors of witchcraft, and you have a suspenseful love story.
I highly recommend the audio version of A Hundred Kisses. The narrator did an amazing job of transporting the listener to 1296 Scotland. Her accents were amazing, and she effortlessly switched between characters and even her male characters sounded authentic. I plan to listen to the prequel next.
