“5 out of 5 stars!! Joy’s Christmas wish is to give her five-year-old daughter the best holiday ever. So, in hopes of a winter wonderland Christmas they head to her in-laws house in Montana where they find that everyone seems to need a bit of holiday magic….
In truth, I was on the fence about this novel from its beginning, but I am sooo happy that I stuck with it! It is a …”

It’s not squeaky clean. It’s kinda in that foggy area in between.
There’s no foul language, but there’s lots of taking the Lord’s in vain.
It has descriptions of getting aroused and imagining skin-on-skin contact.
BUT there was no on-page sex…
It was a well done story. The characters were awesome.
There’s a bit of drama and lots of fun family stuff.
A Hummingbird Christmas is the first book I’ve read by Karen Foley, but I will be reading more. This was the perfect Christmas time romance, sweet with lots of sexual tension and some hot scenes. I really appreciate when authors don’t drag out the trope; I can’t be with them because…. Of course, there was a bit of it, along with enemies to lovers (although that lasted for just a nanosecond).
I also really enjoyed that Foley infused a lot of the Christmas spirit throughout the entire book. Some authors use it just as a ploy to sell a Holiday book, but when I read a Christmas romance, I want cookies, decorations, tree picking, and festivals, which Foley does perfectly.
There were some tense moments and dramatic ones that kept the story flowing nicely in between the flirting and getting to know each other. A bit of magical realism with the hummingbirds and some tears at the end when we find out some information about a character. All in all, a wonderfully magical Christmas romance.
Second Chance
For happiness. Joy & Piper are going to spend Christmas in Montana this year. Since her husband Matt passed away her in-laws came to CA to visit. But while driving up the road she ends up crashing and being saved by Cole, Matt’s best friend. A lot will change this Christmas.
When I started reading A Hummingbird Christmas, I expected it to be a sweet little romantic Christmas tale. But it was so much more than that!
As an author myself, and a professional editor, I’ve gotten so used to reading stories lately that are implausible, poorly written, badly edited and just horrid…
But when the narrative in this story captivated me, the dialogue sparkled and the commas were all in the right place, I knew I was in romance-fiction heaven! Karen Foley writes realistic, sympathetic characters the reader can really care about. I loved Piper’s quirky fashion sense and endearing childlike enthusiasm. Joy was appropriately protective in her role as mother and, as a young widow, guarded regarding her heart. Her in-laws, Beth and Eldon, were well drawn and largely realistic. And Cole… my goodness! What a kind and sensitive young man… and I loved how he took so readily to Piper and became both her friend and protector.
The significance of hummingbirds to the story was both heartwarming and heartbreaking. And the resolution of Cole’s aversion to Christmas proved eminently satisfying! If you’re looking for a great holiday (or would that be Holliday?) read, I can’t recommend A Hummingbird Christmas highly enough.
This is a fantastic story with some interesting developments.
Finished it in one night. Love Christmas stories with happy endings
some sex
Oh this one was bound and determined to make me shed tears. I loved it’s bittersweet ending
Cole is a wonderful person and not sure there are many like him in the world but he really took care of Joy and her daughter.
I liked the addition of a hummingbird siting in the dead of winter that represented the characters dead husband still watching over her and their child.
Nice clean book. A pleasure to read. Widow and daughter visit in-laws for Christmas and love in a new place.
Fun read!
Charming
This was a very pleasant read and was a heart-warming story.
A beautiful story of family and growing love. Family doesn’t have to be all blood related. Beth and Eldon willingly took Cole into their home when he was abandoned by his father. Their son, Matt, and Cole became as close as brothers, even choosing the same occupation. Things changed when Matt met Joy and moved away. Then he was killed on the job. They dynamics of all the relationships was so realistic from misunderstandings, to attractions to connection… Matt’s young daughter, Piper, was the glue that kept them all connected. I loved that this story showed how family relationships are so important and do not totally depend on blood ties… evidenced in Beth and Eldon’s love for Cole and his constant affection and care for them in return. Also striking was the relationship Joy continued with her in-laws and her willingness to keep them in her life. I loved this story!
What a wonderful Christmas story! Highly recommend this book.
A wonderful start about a second chance at love.
Easy Relaxing Read
