(Book 1): The Case of the Power Spell. What a great story. The mayor of Hillcrest approaches Penny about doing an investigation into a trip his wife planned and paid for but never took. She is leery of taking the job as it seems to be a marital thing, but her rent is due and she has no other options. Penny found out in the first book she is supposed to be a witch, so with the help of a book she inherited and her knitting club, they try out spells and form a coven. And we can’t forget the boyfriend Chris, the police captain, and the history they share. Penny also has a cat Turkey/Thomas, who she can now communicate with telepathically after trying out her first spell. She does solve the murder and finds out why Melanie, the mayor’s wife never took her trip. If you like paranormal, murder and romance, grab this book it has it all. I found this book to be funny and enjoyable to read. (Book 2): The Case of the Banishing Spell. This is the best book so far. I enjoyed it and read it in one day. Penny is a new witch and a so so private investigator. Her friends call her to investigate a bloody paw print found in one of the rooms at the local inn. The inn owner awakes and sees two wolves in front of the inn, which has Penny wondering if there are other magical creatures in Hillcrest. The visitor to the inn is found dead making her investigation even more important and has her realizing magic might be needed to solve this one. As a result the coven starts practicing the banishing spell with some hilarious results. Are Chris and Penny done? And what does that mean for Penny and Max? I’m not adding anything else, I don’t want to give away the story, but I can say I did not guess who the murderer was. (Book 3): The Case of the Desire Spell. Each book I read in this series just gets better. Penny has so much going on in this book. First Turkey informs her that she has to take a test to keep her PI license and its not free. There is a murder in Hillcrest and its connected to the disappearance of Penny’s ASBW and all the coven’s copies. Cora and Penny are having issues that could destroy the coven if Penny doesn’t solve the murder. To top it all off Penny finally figures out how to cast the Desire Spell enabling her to make a decision on what she wants as far as her love life is concerned. If you want to find out how this all ends and who stole the ASBW and committed the murder, buy the book, its well worth it. (Book 4): The Case of the Trust Spell. Penny’s fellow witch and friend Annie is down in the dumps, its the anniversary of her husband’s death. Over tea and cake, Annie tells Penny how she attempted to find Walter in one of the other realms. While telling her story she mentions she made contact with Fred, a spirit from the Spirit Realm. Fred asks if they will open the portal allowing the Spirit Realm Tennis Tournament team to play tennis on Earth as the gravity is better. Of course Penny agrees, hoping it will smooth things over between the Earth and Spirit Realms. At first everything goes smoothly. 8 tournament players and 1 judge come through the portal. Cora hosts a welcoming dinner, where one of the guests are murdered. Who knew ghosts could be murdered? 48 hours to solve a murder, can it be done? Time will tell. Turkey is his usual self, still using the computer, only this time he has started a business. Join Penny, Turkey and the rest of the knitting club as they try to find the killer. (Book 5): The Case of the Vision Spell. The Case of the Vision Spell is GREAT!!!! The local librarian offers Penny a case looking into a possible forgery of a will. The deceased just so happens to be Marley’s grandfather, who died saving his employee and friend in a mining accident. As Penny investigates, there is a murder of one of the suspects. Marley gets her familiar, now that only leaves Annie to find hers. Penny and her knitting club are learning to be witches and they are worried about learning The Vision Spell, if done wrong they could be permanently blind. That’s scary, not sure I would be in any hurry to learn that spell. Penny does come up with a spell to protect the Earth realm from anyone entering the portal without Marley, Annie, Cora or Penny knowing. The group of witches are getting so much better at casting spells and getting stronger. Turkey is still Turkey, an awesome cat, he is very intellegent. The drawings are cute and only add to the story, from all the reviews I have read everyone seems to like them, so please keep them coming. Amorette Anderson has a great series going and I hope it continues for a long time and I will be waiting anxiously for the next book. This is one of the better series I have read. If you like books with a little romance, a little mystery, and a little paranormal then give this one a chance. I believe they should be read in order, just so you can see how far Penny has come with her P.I. business and how the coven as grown in their magical abilities. This cozy series has no sex scenes, and no cursing which is a big plus in this reviewer’s opinion. If your a good writer you need neither to sell your books. I did receive an ARC copy of this series and am leaving a review because I want too.
Fun life Cozy with Witches and other beings that turn up. Witches are still learning, so things don’t always go as planned which makes it even more interesting.
I love this entire series. I have them all and hope to have many more in the future. I guarantee you will enjoy meeting Penny, friends and familiars.
What a great boxed set!
Each book has a lesson to be learned for the witches, and the reader.
I like the illustrations that the author put in as well.
Follow alongside Penny and Turkey as Penny becomes a more practiced witch.
Loved reading each of the books in the set.
Penny has another case to solve, and another spell to learn. Will she be able to do it?
These quirky tales are full of friends and familiars, murder and mystery.
Received this ARC and am leaving an honest review.
This is a fantastic series. Penny is such an adorable heroine. SHe has this amazing heart and will give you the shirt off her back, even if it does have a coffee stain. She is delightfully scatterbrained, and has a magnificent growth throughout the series. The magic has been very well researched, and it’s not a simple flick of a wrist, but contemplative spells that need the witch’s special touch. Also, Turkey is such a fantastic familiar. Trust me.
This series is so much fun! A private investigator who got her PI certification online. A coven of witch-wannabes learning witchcraft from photocopied pages of a how-to-be-a-witch book. What could possibly go wrong?
PI Penny Banks tries to solve her small town’s mysteries with the help of her familiar, Turkey, a cat who communicates to Penny telepathically. Turkey also surfs the web, reads, and actually earns big money as an online consultant. He’s frequently the the brain behind her breakthroughs. Penny’s exploits with the amateur Terra Coven as they attempt to cast spells often go awry, with hilarious results. Early example: one of the witches actually made her own hair disappear!
These easy, quick-read books have romance, mystery and magic. Despite the fact that Penny and the Coven members show steady growth throughout the series, there are still plenty of laugh-out-loud setbacks. I highly recommend Amorette Anderson’s lively Hilcrest Witch series!
Incredible Author writing incredible stories!
This is a terrific series and it’s nice to have all the books together in the series though I’d recommend you start with the prequel first: The Love Spell.
This series concerns four women who meet weekly to knit and talk about a book they’ve just read. Their lives change with one of them, Penny Banks, happens to find a little book among some items in a box she has been given
from a recently deceased elderly woman. Well
Penny makes copies of it and gives it out to the other ladies and thus the series is born as the women follow the advice and find amazing things happen. Perhaps the one who changes the most is Penny!
It is a great series and I urge you to start reading it. It may even help you overcome some things you don’t like about yourself and become a better person in the process!
The Case of the Power Spell: I enjoyed this book as it was both an introduction to these fun characters and this world and it was a mystery with some action.
The Case of the Banishing Spell: This might be my favorite just because of the werewolf aspect, but I also really liked the plot. The witch craft aspect wasn’t my favorite but the mystery was excellent.
The Case of the Desire Spell: This story was so funny, I love the humor and Turkey is just awesome! Loved Max and the mystery of this story. Okay… this might be my favorite.
The Case of the Trust Spell: The balance between humor, action and mystery us what makes this book and series such a joy to read. This story is about super naturals from another realm. What made it fun was the witches trying to help yet still learning their powers.
The Case of the Vision Spell: Another great addition to this series of standalone. Penny and Turkey work hard in this story and there are some great secondary characters included! I don’t want to give away the plot, so I will just say, it was fun and enjoyable.
This is a great series for any reader who wants a lighthearted funny read that is safe and mysterious. If you get the chance also check out The Case of the Love Spell, it is the introduction story to this series and amazing as well. I received an ARC and I am leaving an honest review.
