I’ve read many of her books and liked them all. This one more than most.
A Highlander to Have and to Hold is the second book of the Brides of Scotland series. I always enjoy reading books by this author and this was a perfect example of why. We meet Colin MacFarland in the previous book A Lass to Love, which was his cousin Fiona MacFarland’s book. Fiona was always trying to help others and every time Colin became involved things went wrong. This time Fiona has volunteered Colin to take the Morningstar siblings to Scotland on his ship. Colin didn’t want to get involved but couldn’t resist his feelings for Rose. He reluctantly agrees to take them, but he tries to stay away from them. After seeing his mother’s sadness at being a sailor’s wife, he didn’t want to get married. Rose and her sister’s only chance of survival was to leave England. While on the trip, Rose’s regard for Colin grows and she proposes they have a marriage of convenience. Will she be able to overcome Colin’s fears? This was a great book and I loved the characters and look forward to the next book.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily writing a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Rose and her sisters are homeless following the death of their parents and cruelty of their cousin who inherited, and their only option is to travel from London to Scotland to seek help from their aunt. Enter Colin MacFarland – cousin of the feisty Fiona from the previous book in the series. When he agrees to help the sisters reach Scotland safely, neither he nor Rose realize they’ll find love along the way. I enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to the other sisters’ stories!
I received a free copy from the author. My review is voluntary.
out of their home by the new owner, since their father had past away leaves them with few options. But luckily their friend Fiona helps them to get passage on a ship captained by her cousin, Colin. Oh yes, a Scot and what a handsome one at that!
“Rose glanced straight at a broad leather-clad chest with exceedingly wide shoulders and across his thick neck to the ridiculously square jaw. His features were broad and strong with dirty blond hair and the sort of dark brown eyes that seemed to look into one’s very soul.” Sigh
Reluctant as he was he let them talk him into taking them to Glasgow, Fiona had always been the one saving things and these three ladies were no different so he had to give in. But he was determined to keep his distance. Of course that did not last long!
A Braw handsome Scot, toughened by his life at sea and an English Rose. Poetry you say? Oh yes, it just takes awhile to smooth out the words, but the fun is in the trying! Double sigh!
Rose Morningstar and her sisters, Daisy and Lily have lost their father, been kicked out of their home and are now living in the docklands. They’re desperate to get to Scotland to their aunt. Rose’s good friend has a cousin who has a shipping company and could take them there. The girls convince him to give them passage even though he doesn’t want to get involved. Colin has a soft spot for his cousin and always ends up helping her.
Colin doesn’t believe a sea captain and marriage go together. He’s been burned by love before and knows being gone for months at a time wouldn’t make him a good husband. Though after meeting Rose, he’s really thinking he’d like to give it a try.
Daisy and Lily make a great addition to this story with their side issues.
This is book two in Tammy Andersen’s series Brides of Scotland. It’s a stand alone book but characters from the first one make an appearance. Tammy’s stories are always enjoyable. They make you feel like you’re a part of the story. This is definitely one you want to read. I received an ARC as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
A Highlander To Have And To Hold is a spectacular historical romance by Tammy Andresen. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Andresen has once more delivered a well-written book populated with outstanding characters. Rose is trying to get herself and her sisters to Scotland, where she hopes her aunt will take them in. Colin’s cousin has begged and bullied him into helping the three sisters get to their aunt. Rose and Colin’s story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzle and action. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading my next book by Tammy Andresen. A Highlander To Have And To Hold is book 2 of the Brides of Scotland Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This time out, Tammy Andresen has created a sweet, simple romance with her signature happy ending that is even lighter, sweeter and less complicated and yet, left me smiling as always! Sometimes we don’t need all the drama, just a feel good romance that can be read quickly!
A HIGHLANDER TO HAVE AND TO HOLD is the story of a young woman left with nowhere to go but to travel to a relative she has never known, along with her sisters after her father, an earl has died. Rose is determined to get to Scotland, and breaks down the resistance of Scottish sea captain, Colin MacFarland. What neither of them expected was to find that special love neither thought they could ever have, or that their secret dreams could be fulfilled in more ways than one, if only they could set aside their fears and take a chance…
With just one kiss, this romance had me hooked. Lots of sweet, humor and even sass, in other words, a boatload of entertaining reading to escape into from an author whose love of all things romantic shows!
I received a complimentary ARC edition from Tammy Andresen! This is my honest and voluntary review.
OH So Charming! A Highlander to Have and to Hold by Tammy Andresen is book 2 in the Brides of Scotland series and what a wonderful series. Tammy does write the most charming stories that are heart warming as well as original. I just get so excited when a new release comes out. Though in a series this can be read as a standalone and is easy to read. This story has a rescue, attempted rape, a trip across the ocean, sea sickness, a difference in stations, being kicked out of their home, loving sisters, fighting the attraction, innocence, a wonderful friend and yes love. I highly recommend this book or any of Tammy Andresen’s book. You won’t be disappointed.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Rose, Daisy and Lily have become Fiona’s next project. Their lives have been turned upside down and they have nowhere to turn. These three ladies are impressive. They don’t realize how strong they are until they end up in a room, starving to death, above a tavern. As usual, Fiona drags Colin into one of her schemes. What he doesn’t realize is, this is going to be the biggest adventure of his life. The second book in this new series is an exciting read. Anxiously awaiting Lily and Daisy’s stories.
Rose Morningstar has sunk as deep as any woman could without selling her body and her soul. After the death of her father, a distant cousin inherited the title & when Rose wouldn’t succumb to his advances he tossed Rose & her two sisters on to the streets. When a sea captain finally agrees to transport them to Scotland, she doesn’t know quite how to thank him. Colin MacFarland doesn’t need the adoration of an English miss. He’s got a business to run and a life to live out and he’s learned the hard way that sea captains don’t mix with marriage. Not successfully, anyhow. He attempts to stay far away from Rose as she’s too tempting by half. One kiss changes both their minds.
The second book in the series & another captivating read, which I loved. Strong characters & a pace that never flags kept me reading & I read it in a sitting. Colin is just lovely & can’t turn his back on someone in need, Rose is the eldest sister & needs to look after her sisters. The chemistry between the pair is apparent from the start but only grows as they sail to Scotland. A lovely romance with very little angst just a very entertaining read that made me smile all the way through
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

She’s desperate for help…
Rose Morningstar has sunk as deep as any woman could without selling her body and her soul. After the death of her father, she’s been tossed out of her home and barely surviving with her sisters in a cheap Dockland’s inn. When a sea captain finally agrees to transport them to Scotland, she doesn’t know quite how to thank him. Never mind, he’s irritated by her very presence. She’s determined to let him know just how much she appreciates his help. Unfortunately, her tongue ties every and her heartbeat quickens every time the man even steps near her. If only they’d met under different circumstances.

My review :
Will a marriage of convenience be their salvation …
Both main characters were introduced in the previous book, Colin as the heroine’s best friend, the one always rescuing her from her self made predicaments and Rose as the next project of said friend.
Why he is very reluctant to help her one more time, especially when it is not about kittens trapped in a tree but ladies in distress.
Rose escaped her cousin’s clutches to fall in dire straits with her younger sisters, until her newly made friend propose her help. But said help is very unwilling to his friend next scheme.
This was a fun and fast read about two people who may find in the other the answer to their plight and much more if they are willing to take a little risk with their heart.
Colin fears he will never be enough, wounded by his first love who was unable to wait for him but also aware his trade is one of absence. Why he is uncertain he can commit himself to the sweet Rose. Rose first sees in Colin the answer to her quandary, if he might be willing to forget her lineage, they may have a future together and something more if he lets go of the past.
4,25 stars for this lovely read, and I am eager to see what await Rose’s sisters.
I was granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

A Highlander To Have And To Hold – Historical Romance (Brides of Scotland Book 2) – Tammy Andresen
Our hero Colin McFarland we met in Book 1. He owns a shipping company and captains one of his ships. Colin is a man who wants to settle down and his wish is to have land to farm and a family to love. He is unable to do that though as his shipping business is his source of income and if he were to sell it he knows he needs to sell for the right price. He is back in England having just dropped off a shipload of items when his cousin Fiona (from Book 1) has another job for him. She wishes for him to add three Ladies who have no means of support to Scotland and help them find a Great Aunt who lives in Glasgow.
Three sisters, Lady Rose Morningstar, Lady Daisy Morningstar and Lady Lilly Morningstar are hoping he will listen to his cousin and help them get to Scotland. Lady Rose is the oldest of the three and she is determined to make sure that they all get to Scotland safely and find their aunt. The sisters, have been thrown out of their family home; by a cousin who made lewd advances towards Lady Rose and has cast them off with no money and no protection.
Lady Rose was quick enough to gather some items to sell to get them a few nights of lodging and hopefully a way to Glasgow.
Colin is a man with a good heart and although his first thought is to say no, he does allow the three Morningstar sisters to travel to Scotland with him and his cargo. That’s when life starts to change for Colin!
A deal is offered, a gun is stolen, negotiations occur, meat pies are baked and once land is reached wishes are made. There is a surprise in waiting for Lady Rose and an appearance by the cousin who threw them out.
Tammy Andresen writes lovely stories, they are easy quick reads and are always enjoyable. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
I was given an advanced reader copy of this book to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Not knowing which way to turn, Rose and her sisters have to depend on an unknown captain of a ship to take them to the only family they have. Having escaped an unsavoury relative bent on destroying what little pride they had, they have to accept whatever help they can get from the grumpy captain. As Rose and her sisters board the ship and settle down, it is not without incident as Daisy is a constant source of surprises and troublemaking. This brings her into the captain’s orbit, even though he is desperately trying to avoid the alluring woman and her siblings. Although some surprises meet the small family in Scotland, Colin rises to the occasion and they discover far more than they ever thought possible. This novelette is entertaining and romantic as both Rose and Captain Colin MacFarland break through their defenses and find in one another an answering call to their hearts. Sisters Daisy and Lily add their own flavour to the novel and bring a smile to one’s face. I enjoyed this book, which can be read in an evening and am looking forward to reading more about the Morningstar sisters. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
This was such an entertaining story with the most wonderful characters, not only the main couple but the secondary characters as well.
Rose Morningstar is the oldest of three sisters who have recently lost their father, the Earl of Rothberg (their Mother had passed away when they were very young) and the new earl has come to take the title. He is a mean, older man and right away wants Rose to marry him. She agrees, knowing it will mean safety for her sisters, Daisy & Lily, and she was willing to do anything to protect them. The new earl tried to take her innocence before they were married and her sister saved her by hitting him over the head with a chamber pot. When he came to, he threw them to the streets with nowhere to go. Their friend, Fiona (from Book 1 in this series) helped them find passage on a ship that was captained by her cousin, Colin McFarland.
Colin McFarland is a handsome Scottish captain and he has always allowed Fiona to talk him in to favors for helping out needy things but why he had let her talk him in to taking three single young ladies on his ship to Glasgow was beyond him. Maybe, it was the sadness in the ladies eyes, or the way Rose pulled at his heart strings. He had finally said yes to their begging and now he was stuck with them until they reached his home port and they would take a carriage from there to Glasgow & their Aunt in hopes she would take them in.
The chemistry between them grows and once they kiss, the electricity is undeniable. However; Colin knows she is too good for him and he has a shipping business to run and he also knows from experience that a sea captain is gone from home too much and too long to have a wife at home waiting – it never works out. Rose finds herself falling in love with Colin and proposes a business arrangement but will he agree, what will her sisters say? I highly recommend this short read to all historical romance readers. Tammy Andresen has done it again!
I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
