Lovely story with wonderful characters and alot of twists in the tale loved how Hamish and Evie met and their love flourished despite the rivalry between the clans and such a great family great book x
My impression of this book was one of frustration, anger, sorrow, fear, prejudice and sadness. When the h/H met they each were from enemy clans. Yet their feelings for each other grew beyond the prejudice, the decades long grudge between their clans. They were meeting in secret because if others knew, they would be separated and it would be considered treason to associate with the enemy. A few people found out and made it more difficult for them. But neither of them gave up. The h was a young maiden free spirited and loved nature. She enjoyed walking around the land. She was determined to go against her parents for the H. She knew he was not as evil as his predecessors but her family would not believe the H wanted peace. The H was in a difficult bind. For over ten years his father had an alliance with an English stronghold over the border. He was also betrothed to the daughter of the English lord. The H could not stand his betrothed. She was mean and vindictive. She was constantly unsatisfied and bullied the servants. She had no respect for the H. She would berate him everywhere and anywhere she pleased regardless of who was around. The H did not know what to do. He knew if he wanted a future with the h he would have to break the betrothal and the alliance. He was not sure if his clan could withstand an attack from the English lord. When his father died and he became Laird, he was finally sure of what he wanted regardless of the consequences. He loved the h so much he was willing to give up everything to be with her. He told his betrothed what he thought of her and that the arrangement was canceled. She vowed vengeance. What did his future hold? Would he be able to marry the h or would her family continue to be enemies? Would they h’s family ever see that all the H wanted was peace? Would the H’s clan accept his path for peace? Will anyone challenge the H for the lairdship? I felt in the beginning of reading this, the story frustrated me. I am not sure if the author did a bang-up job writing it so it would elicit the feelings and emotions I felt or was the writing boring and frustrating me? Toward the end it did engage my attention better than the beginning. There was high tension, drama and action. I really liked that part. I also enjoyed the extended epilogue. I have mixed feelings on this book. I did not dislike it but it did not really impress me. I loved the overall concept of the story that of Romeo and Juliet. The Montague and the Capulet. Like I said, I enjoyed the ending more than the beginning. If you have the patience and the time it is not a bad read.
A feisty daughter of the Laird is always getting into trouble. She meets the soon to be Laird of an enemy clan. He saves her life. They don’t think their clans should stay enemies. Her family finds out about them and forbids her to see him. What would you do? What would you expect her to do? Yes definitely more trouble to come.
Evie Elliot is the daughter of Isla, who was captured and held by the English Musgraves, and Fraser, whose Mother was also captured by the Musgraves, but he rescued them. The Musgraves had made an alliance with the Laird of the McBryde’s which many Scotsmen felt made the McBryde’s traitors. There was action, mystery, treachery, betrayal and romance in this story. There were a few twists which made this a really good story.
