“A tantalyzing paranormal romance, full of mystery and intrigue. One of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Sign me up for book two!” –Nichole Chase, NYT Bestselling author of The Dark Betrayal Trilogy

A phone call from an old friend sets Dr. Giovanni Vecchio back on the path of a mysterious manuscript he’s hunted for over five hundred years. He never … years. He never expected a young student librarian could be the key to unlock its secrets, nor could he have predicted the danger she would attract.
Now he and Beatrice De Novo follow a twisted maze that leads from the archives of a university library, though the fires of Renaissance Florence, and toward a confrontation hundreds of years in the making.
History and the paranormal collide in A Hidden Fire, the first book in the bestselling Elemental Mysteries series and semifinalist in the Kindle Book Review’s Best Indie Books of 2012.

Hunter’s first book in the Elemental series and may still be free. In any case this is the place to start for one of the best written paranormal/romance series on the market today. You will absolutely love the way Hunter writes.
This is one of my all time favorite books. It drew me in and I didn’t want to put it down. It’s the first book in a series which I quickly devoured. Loved the mystery, magic, and romance! A great read!
LOVED this book. Read the entire series and always look forward to another book related to the series. The vampires in this book have an affinity for one the 4 elements Earth, Wind, Air and Fire. You can’t help but fall in love with this group of funny amazing characters. There are some x-rated scenes so I can’t recommend it to my church book …
Turns out this is the first and maybe the best in a really great 4 book series. On a 5 star system, the weakest of the 4 books is worth 6 stars. This one hooks you. Read it and the others.
I loved this book! I’m a huge fan of urban fantasy, and this is an excellent example of the genre (which can often get ridiculous and horribly cliche) done right. The romance isn’t creepy, people react like people, and the world is richly developed. I highly recommend!
I have read this series a couple of times. Love the story line. The Love aspect. The turmoil. And the open ended conclusion. Couldn’t wait to see if she would write spinoffs and she did. Loved them too. Moreover her writing had me reading more of her books. Love them all. Reread them all.
It is a rare occasion that a book affects me as much as this one did. My emotions were on a rollercoaster from almost the very start to way beyond the last page. Every bit of anguish, despair and love portrayed by Gio and every bit of hope, sadness, betrayal, and love portrayed by B was felt deep within me. There were moments I wanted to rings …
Slow start but turned out good.
I never get tired of vampire books, so this one was right up my alley. I read The Scribe a few years ago and loved it, and I think this book is almost as good (haven’t gotten to the rest of the series yet, but I will!). I’m a sucker for romance, which her books always deliver. The mystery was fun and there were a few surprises that I didn’t see …
An interesting paranormal vampire story. Mostly mellow with no teenage drama to deal with. The end felt like it slowed down some compared to the rest of the book. Interesting story idea that leaves an opening for the next book without a cliffhanger.
When I saw the series was titled Elemental Mysteries, I was honestly expecting, well, elementals. Not vampires with weird elemental aspects to their powers; though it does make it a bit more interesting and unique. The timeline was a bit clunky in the beginning, but becomes useful later in the book when the time difference between chapters isn’t …
I love paranormal books, and this little gem, A Hidden Fire (Elemental Mysteries #1)
by Elizabeth Hunter definitely hit the spot. The story starts out a little slow but then it simmers along nicely. I enjoyed the story and Elizabeth’s writing style and her descriptions were vivid and easily realised. I loved the characters who are complex and well …
Elizabeth Hunter’s take on this Vampire world that co-exists with the human world was brilliant! Sticking to the mythology of how they are sired and their aversion to the sun; all the while uniquely aligning their powers with those of the elements, this novel brings new life to these immortal characters. ‘A Hidden Fire,’ draws you in and leaves …
Very good story! Beatrice (or ‘B’ as she likes to be called) stumbles into a world that she didn’t know existed. She’s a college student working in a research library at night when she helps Dr. Giovanni Vecchio who is copying an ancient manuscript for a friend. B doesn’t realize that Gio (as she comes to call him), is a very old vampire. …
Elizabeth Hunter created a solid world in this first book of a series. It is very much a romance with well developed characters. If you’re in the mood for an escape into a nicely written story in a world of vampires and their quirks and the humans they interact with, this book begins your journey.
Beatrice meets her mysterious Dr Vecchio when he …
A terrific mysterious stranger encounter, with an added dimension. Would probably read again as some parts are very subtle; you know what the author knows, yet you feel you’re discovering with the main character Betrise.
Unusual premise – imaginative twist on paranormal category.
I happened across this while looking for something new to read. I remember thinking after a few chapters “I had no idea there were books in the “romance” category that were so well-written and engaging.” My previous experiences were anything but positive. Elizabeth Hunter writes very well. This story is a page-turner, and made me immediately buy …
I first read this book a while ago, and then went to back to it. It’s a good solid start to the Elemental Mysteries series and introduces us to Gio and Beatrice, and Gio’s search for his missing library.
The Elemental world is all about vampires, but Hunter puts an interesting spin on them and how they live. It’s well thought through with some …
Elizabeth Hunter never disappoints.
