** spoiler alert ** Travis lives his life by rules he doesn’t break. Elaine is desperate to put her past behind her and build a better life. Neither can deny the attraction, but are determined to try. Will Travis be able to relax his rules? Will Elaine finally have closure for her past?
I really liked these two characters! I loved how despite telling himself that it was breaking all the rules, he couldn’t help his draw and protectiveness when it came to Elaine. I loved how despite what she had went through, Elaine was determined to do whatever she could to stand up again. Great read!
WOW, this spin off from “Cowboys of the Flint Hills” did not disappoint. Oh my gosh I cannot get enough of Tessa Layne books. She brings in every emotion into her books. It is so hard to put down and do what we have to in life. I would say you should probably read her Series of “Cowboys of the Flint Hills” so you understand some of her characters. We have Travis who is the Sheriff and a ex-seal. He is in Love with Elaine, but his past keeps him from opening up. Elaine is on probation, who Dottie has taken in to help. What will happen with these two? Will they let the past history of each other keep them apart? Will Dax, Elaine’s son accept their relationship? Will Dax get over his fear of Storms? I received an arc copy for my honest review.
Amazing! Just when I think I’ve read the best book ever Tessa Layne writes an even better book.
Travis and Elaine are wonderful characters and there wasn’t a minute I wasn’t rooting for them! Ms. Layne does a perfect job blending together this story of heartache and love everlasting. There is mystery, romance, and you can’t help but feel part of the town. I enjoyed meeting some of old friends from prior books. And I look forward to visiting with new friends in the next book is this new series. I received this book as a gift and voluntarily give this review.

A Hero’s Honor, Resolution Ranch is book 1 in the Flint Hills Military Heroes series by Tessa Layne and an excellent start for this military series and the beginning of Resolution Ranch which is to help those returning home to have a place to ease back into civilian life. We first read about Travis and Elaine in the series Cowboys of Flint Hills series and now the homegrown boys are coming back home to Prairie.
Travis Kincaid is a homegrown man of Prairie, Kansas who left for the military and became a Navy Seal. For years he served his country until one dangerous mission and they lost half of the team. He blames himself for the loss of his men and left the military to return home to become the Police Chief. He takes pride in keeping his town and the people safe until a tornado swirls through the town and destroys most of it. Now the nightmares have come back for his service days with a vengeance and he is getting no sleep but the best part of his day is seeing Elaine at the diner for his daily coffee and just her presence helps him to settle him.
Elaine Ryder is a single mom who is trying to make ends meet with two jobs since the town was destroyed by a tornado and to find a way to help her son return to the happy boy he was before the tornado hit. She looks forward to Travis coming to the diner for coffee but she thinks she is not good enough for the Chief of Police due to her not so nice past but she knows there is a deep connection between them.
Can these two find a way to get over the things in their past and move forward to find their HEA and help rebuild Prairie to be better than ever or will the past keep them apart??
Travis Kincaid has spent his whole life taking care of people, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He had to help take care of his brother Dalton when his mother left. He was a Navy Seal who carried out many dangerous missions for his country, and one of those missions resulted in the loss of half of his Seal Team. When he returned home to Prairie, Kansas, he was a different man, filled with guilt over the loss of his friends. The nightmares of the event plagued him for years, but with time, they grew less and less frequent. HIs job as the Police Chief of Prairie keeps him busy and he takes pride in assuring the safety of his community.
However, he was powerless to keep them safe from a tornado that destroyed most of the town. He did save the life of a little boy, but was unable to save another. HIs nightmares returned with a vengeance and he found it hard to fall asleep at night. The only bright spot in his day is seeing Elaine Ryder when he goes for coffee. Travis loves her big blue eyes, calming voice and kind spirit. She usually ignores him, but she just recently began giving him a shy smile when she brought him his coffee. He wasn’t sure what this meant, but he would like to find out.
Elaine has had a crush on Travis since she began working at Dottie’s Diner two years ago. She loves his sexy smile, piercing eyes and his strong work ethic. Travis saved her son Dax during the tornado, and for that he will always be her hero. She came to Prairie for a fresh start and she loves everything about the small town. She has things in her past that she is ashamed of and she just wants to be accepted for the woman she has become, not who she used to be. The first time she saw Travis she felt a deep connection and she hoped that one day she had the courage to open her heart to the possibility of love. Whenever their hands touch over his coffee cup, she feels a tingle go up her arm and her heart starts pounding. Elaine senses that Travis feels the same way about her, but she doesn’t know what to do about it.
Will Travis be able to overcome the tremendous guilt he feels about his past ? Will he finally admit that Elaine and Dax are his future?
And will Elaine be open to that future, or will her past come between her and Travis?
” A Hero’s Honor” is the first book in the new Resolution Ranch Series by Tessa Layne. The companion series, Cowboys of Flint Hills, also takes place in Prairie. This new series revolves around military heroes and their return home to the small town. Travis is brave, humble and ready for love and he finds this with Elaine. Together, they will conquer their demons and help rebuild Prairie back to the charming little town it was before the tornado. Tessa has given us a wonderful story about love, trust and forgiveness. I love all of her books and I look forward to the next book in the series, “A Hero’s Heart.”
What an exciting start to what looks like an amazing new series.
I have been a huge fan of the series – Cowboys of Flint Hills. When I heard there was going to be a spin off I very excited to read it and this book didn’t disappoint.
You got a taste of Travis in one of Mrs. Layne’s other books but it plays so well in this book. Travis is a former Navy SEAL who is still carrying the burden of a op gone wrong. He has a lot of guilt over it so he has put up roadblocks in his life to prevent himself from “feeling”. However, he can’t seem to stop the feelings he has concerning Elaine, a woman who he has been secretly interested in for the past two years.
Elaine is a single mom who is just trying to make it. She has done things in her past that she isn’t proud of but works every day to make sure that she is doing right by her son and by the people that she cares about.
When these two start working together after being pushed together by a friend, they can’t seem to escape the sparks that arise when they are around each other. This was fun and hot to read!
I can’t wait for book two.
