A really amazing wounded warrior romance!
If ever there were two total opposites it’s certainly Jason and Millie.
Jason is ex-military and not looking for any relationship of any kind, who come from “the” winemaking family in the US. Millie is a modern day hippie who has been making wine using biodynamic practices, or in other words… “infusing the grapes with your energy and life-force.” With so many differences between them, you would think they wouldn’t have a chance. You would be wrong. The instant attraction between them is sizzling and they are really good at communicating with each other.
This book had me laughing out loud and fanning myself, it was so good!
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
This is a steamy, entertaining, well written contemporary romance. It has likable, engaging characters, a wounded war hero, a free spirit heroine, wine making, supportive friends, family drama, and a happily ever after ending. This is the fourth entry in Ms. Layne’s Resolution Ranch series, and can easily be read and enjoyed as a stand alone. I am looking forward to reading the other novels in this series with great anticipation.
** spoiler alert ** Millie has always relied on her cosmic connections to lead her way. Jason has been determined that relationships were not for him after his injury. Neither can deny attraction. Will Millie be able to make Jason see he is more than his injury? Will Jason be able to help Millie save what she has always loved?
Loved how these two opposites couldn’t help, but be attracted. I loved how Millie was who she was and didn’t change herself. I loved how despite his attitude and determination, Jason couldn’t help his feelings and protection of her. Great read!
Received a free copy of this book from Hidden Gems and am voluntarily leaving a review…
I’m so glad I picked up this book to read from Hidden Gems. Tessa Layne is a new to me author and this series, Resolution Ranch, is a great series if this book is a good example. Jason and Millie’s relationship was destined to be….according to Millie. These two could not be more opposites and that is what makes these two work. The book is a quirky, well paced, easy read, filled with fun, steam, and a little heart string pulling. Well done!!
I love the message behind A Hero’s Home. Tessa Layne has created two characters who couldn’t be more different, but there’s a beauty in their uniqueness. Jason is adjusting to civilian life after serving his country. Millie has a spirit that is free, but a heart that’s lost. Theirs is a mismatch made in heaven.
This story is an uplifting and whimsical, romantic tale.
It is also a story about family support or lack thereof as well as being a story about hope, new beginnings and finding one’s soulmate.
A great read with a happy ever after

A Hero’s Home is the fourth book in the Resolution Ranch series, set within the Cowboys of Flint Hills world. Millie has a reputation in town as being a hippie, but when she kisses a stranger, she knows she’s met her soul mate! Jason just wanted to run his errands to help out the ranch when he saves Millie from a fall, and while he’s drawn to her lightness, they are complete opposites. Millie and Jason fight what could be so good, but when he offers to help with her wine, do they stand a chance at finding happiness?
Oh this book was so sweet and fun and with the perfect amount of steam! I loved Millie and Jason! They had plenty of differences, like the whole tofu vs bacon, but they also were exactly what each other needed, a balm to their souls. Millie was so in tune with who she was, and I loved that she was able to tell instinctively what others needed. Jason was so wounded by what happened to him as a soldier and what happened to him with his family, but I loved that he was able to slowly open up some of these wounds to let Millie help him heal. I liked the drama towards the end with Jason’s family’s involvement, but I was really drawn to Millie and Jason’s relationship, their ups and downs, and their falling in love. This is an amazing series, this book can stand alone, and if you’re looking for some cowboy heroes, this is the series and book for you!
My first book in this series but I am definitely going back to read the rest. Two people as different as night and day. Life and the things that get in the way. It is a sweet, exciting, suspenseful, emotional love story. One I recommend highly. I received a review copy from hidden gems and voluntarily review it.
Army Ranger Jason Case lost his leg and watched his buddy bleed out while serving as an Army Ranger. These tragic events have kept him from being close to people, especially women. Although his family own a famous winery, he wants nothing to do with the winery or his family and moves to Resolution Ranch. Millie Prescott has been living in Prairie, Kansas since she was a child. She loves her family’s farm, Moonbeam Acres, and is used to being called a hippie by some of the locals. She is not a hippie, but loves living a healthy lifestyle and being in tune with nature. When she first meets Jason, she knows he is the one for her. The attraction between them is immediate and HOT, but will he let her in to his heart? He will agree to help her with her wine making, but is determined to keep his distance. Will he be able to be near Millie and not fall in love with her? When his family decides to intervene in his life with Millie, he will do all that he can to protect her and her farm. I enjoyed the way Millie gently encouraged Jason to let go of the past and look toward the future…their future. This is book number four in the “Flint Hills Military Heroes” series. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
First book in this series I have had the chance to read. Second book by Tessa. I enjoyed this one as much as the first one I read. Fast paced amazing storyline. One broken man who is afraid to love and one hippie woman who would do anything for her dream. I loved Jason and Millie. Amazing chemistry between these two you can easily see from the beginning. I absolutely love how they build each other up through everything. Tessa did a great job with this storyline. Can’t wait to read more from this series.
How can two people who are complete opposites desire and crave each other so much.
Jason is a man who is basically living in a shell. Since his accident he hasn’t felt the need or desire to start dating. He is afraid one look at his leg and they would run screaming from him. Then one afternoon, after saving a woman from falling he is instantly drawn to her in a way he can’t explain.
Millie was a really fun character to read about. She was called a hippie in the book and in some ways she really was but yet her love of life and seeing something bigger than her was fun to read about. It was also really fun to read about how straight and narrow Mr science was in compared to full moon/dancing in the moonlight Millie was.
I really like this series and thought this book was a great addition to it.
I love the Resolution Ranch series because it emphasizes the need for a place where veterans can go to meet each other, share stories and feelings, work the land and feel as if they are part of a group. Jason Case is a wounded veteran who comes from a wealthy Napa Valley wine family who he is estranged from. His real family had always been the Army but after he was wounded and discharged, he had nowhere to go until he arrived at Resolution Ranch, where he found peace and a new purpose in life. He doesn’t have time for romance because he knows all too well what women think about amputees, and he hates to see their disgust and pity. He was better off alone.
Millie Prescott is a free spirited, carefree young woman who believes in fate, destiny and everlasting love. She wears long, flowy skirts, peasant tops, silver bracelets and drives a vintage VW bus. Some people call her a hippie which doesn’t bother her, because she is happy with who she is and life is good. She runs Moonbeam Acres with her father where they make homemade soap, salt scrubs, wine and candles which she sells at her organic store. Her mother was the heart and soul of the farm and when she died Millie vowed to continue running the farm in her memory. Millie hopes to meet her soulmate someday, a man who would work beside her on the farm, share her love of the land and love her unconditionally.
Will Jason find what he is looking for at the ranch and will that include finding room in his heart for love?
Will Millie’s dream come true and will her positive outlook on life result in a love she never saw coming?
“A Hero’s Home” is uplifting, whimsical, romantic and heartfelt. You can’t help loving Millie with her beautiful smile, bright blue eyes and engaging personality. She is always so happy and I found myself smiling right along with her throughout the book. My eyes teared up when Jason agonized over how his life had turned out and how much he missed his buddies who hadn’t come home. Tessa has given us another amazing story and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.
This book touches your heart and squeezes. The characters are fantastic! Jason, the grouchy veteran who struggles with his disability and Millie, the quirky lovable “hippie” are an unlikely match but, Millie’s positivity and goodness softens Jason’s edges and they become addicted to each other. It is a sweet romance that is tender and compassionate while burning up the sheets or vines.
I highly recommend this book as well as the others in the series. Many of the characters from the other books cross over so, it is a better experience when you know everyone but, not mandatory. Jason and Millie’s story will make you laugh, make you cry and make you swoon. Terrific!!
Millie runs the organic grocery store, she and her father own and operate Moonbeam Acres. An organic farm and vineyard.
When Jason Case comes to Resolution Ranch his intention is to work with the cattle, horses and the other veterans who come to find their way. He has kissed the wine business good-bye. There’s plenty of others in his family to take over Case Wineries.
Now Sterling has assigned him to pick up items for the silent auction, taking place after the fund-raising concert. One of the baskets is from Millie and includes a case of her wine.
At the fundraiser Sterling the instigator goads Jason into trying her homemade wine. Now he’s promised to help her improve her wine.
Yeah, Jason has a problem named Millie, but he’s not sure he minds at all.
This book was lots of fun, watching these two kind of battle it out, yet so steamy when they come together.
The problems start with a plant, wine, and Case’s family.
A page turner you will laugh and cry over.
I’m really glad that Jason & Millie’s story was brought to us.
I can’t give this my normal 5 stars for Tessa’s work unfortunately. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of conflict, a climax that really never was, and the rushed feel of this story.
Jason & Millie are sizzling. Their love is fast and fierce. True soulmates….. they are the kind of people I’d love to meet. To hang out with. To debate the universe and how we fit….
There was so much potential in the attempt at conflict. The struggles with family, the legal questions that loom, & the rushed solutions that should have caused more then a few timeline hours of hesitation.
This story was short. Shorter than usual. There was room for the much needed conflict.
Would I recommend it to friends? Yes, and I have…. but I recommend that the books be read in order so that this one holds more substance. It made more sense to me having already learned a bit about these characters from previous releases.

A Hero’s Home is book 4 in the Flint Hills Military Heroes series by Tessa Layne and again she shows us how hard it is for our military men and women when they return to civilian life. In this book we see how hard it is to accept how after losing a part of his right leg, Jason Case decides that Resolution Ranch is a better fit for moving on instead of returning to the family winery…that is until he meets Millie Prescott, Prairie’s resident “hippy” and amateur wine maker. Seems Millie believes fate has brought him to Prairie to find the love of his life..Her…and to help her make a wine that will but both the town and her wine on the map!! Jason doesn’t believe her “cosmic fate” but he does know wine making and decides he will help her out but wants no strings…except there are sparks that he can’t explain.
Is Millie right that fate has brought her soulmate, someone one to help put her wine on the map, and have her HEA or is it just wishful thinking?
was not sure that these 2 opposites would make it – another great story to continue the series!
A Hero’s Home ( A Resolution Ranch Story and Book 4 of the Flint Hills Military Heroes series) by Tessa Layne. This is Jason Case and Millie Prescott’s story.
Millie and Jason’s story grabbed my attention from the beginning to the end. This is one of my favorites by this author. I really enjoyed their story. It was fun watching their relationship develop. I loved catching up with old friends from the previous stories in this series too.
Jason and Millie’s characters are so different but they are perfect for each other. This was a heartwarming, fun, and steamy read. If you need and escape, this is story is perfect. This read will make you laugh, sigh, and just feel good.
FYI, contains mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
