A delightful Christmas story, the first in a new series by Patrice Wilton, NEW YORK TIMES best seller.
Jennie Braxton and her two small children are traveling to Philadelphia for Christmas with her family. Car trouble lands them in a magical town called Heaven, PA. Everything about this sweet place seems too good to be true, especially Nick Ryan, a local chef with a heart as big as her own. His … own. His sensual smile tempts her from mourning the loss of her dear husband, to look into the future. Can her dreams of finding happiness again come true, or will her heart hide safely in the past?

***** A Lovely Story
Having never read this author before, I didn’t quite know what to expect. Well, from its car accident opening with the double entendre when Nick, the rescuer, says, “You’re in Heaven, ma’am” to Jennie, the driver and victim, who then asks, “Heaven?” because she’s wondering if she is actually dead and in Heaven, I was instantly pulled in.
Well-paced, with very touching and fleshed-out characters, I kept turning those pages, eager to find out more. Jennie, still a grieving widow after her husband’s death the year before, is a devoted mother of two adorable young girls and has no plans for romance in her life any time soon. Nick, a handsome local chef extraordinaire has always thought of himself as a confirmed bachelor. I figured of course, they were going to come together. Yet when they do, it wasn’t all that simple, which was something that made me appreciate the book even more. Yes, there is an instant attraction, and yes, there is some sensuous and emotional lovemaking, but there is also so much more.
We see love, guilt, trust, and family up close and personal. And how one is raised as a child can color his or her life as an adult. It’s also about always thinking of protecting one’s own, whether it comes from Jennie, or her very loving parents. And ultimately, it’s also about coming to terms with how it is possible to change one’s life, if it is wanted and needed badly enough. Very well done. I definitely recommend this book!
A very romantic read! Would live to meet someone like him!
I enjoyed reading this book and would love to read more by this author.
This is a very sweet story. The emotional journey they have together is very romantic and nice to read. The only downside was that it ended very abruptly. Would have liked to see what happens next. But an overall good book.
As sweet heartfelt romance , perfect for the holidays ! Jenny is a young windowed mother of two sweet girls on her way to see her family for Christmas, when a chance meeting with Nick occurs, a spark ignites between the two ,giving Jenny and her girls a second chance at love and family in a new town called Heaven.
This book’s storyline was okay. I liked Nick’s character. I loved Jennie’s children. Jennie’s character was okay. I didn’t like Jennie treated Nick. I liked the ending.
