Miss Kyla Brodrick is determined to force her father out of the smuggling business. Her sister is about to marry a viscount, and her father isn’t yet wanted by the Crown. Once she convinces her mother to stop stealing jewels, they can live a normal life. If, that is, the new owners of Blackstone Abbey don’t discover the stolen goods hidden in the secret room below the abbey refectory. …
Impoverished Viscount Ewan Fraser has accepted that even the hallowed grounds of Blackstone Abbey cannot exorcise his demons. Perhaps that is God’s punishment for failing to save his men. All he can hope for is the solitude of the abbey. But that small peace is shattered when he mistakes a beautiful smuggler for a ghost.

Really good book. I enjoyed reading this book from an author that I hadn’t read before. Did a great job with the storyline and characters in the book. I’ll definitely have to check out other books by Tarah.

What a delightful family! Kyla’s father is a smuggler an her mother steals jewelry! Seriously, the opening scene is at her sister’s party. She is marrying a Viscount and Kyla’s mother is upstairs contemplating stealing a set of pearls! From her daugher’s future mother in law, no less! Kyla has been trying her best to stop both of them but to no avail. Her father hides his goods in the Blackstone Abbey, but now there is a new owner, Viscount Ewan Fraser and he has three other men staying with him!
Ewan is the quinessential brooding hero who really has ptsd from the war in France. Nighmares and flashbacks are a regular occurence and he thought coming to the Abbey would help.
When he stops to aid Kyla and her mother on the road, there is a definiate attraction between the two. But what will he do if he finds out about the stolen goods, especially if he buys some of them not knowing?
I enjoyed this story so much and really could not stop once I started. I really felt for Ewan and Kyla was just the balm he needed! Another fabulous addition to The Marriage Maker series!

This book was good and I did enjoy it, but it felt a little incomplete to me. I has a great premise though.

This is another delightful quick read by Tarah Scott! Miss Kyla Brodrick would love nothing better than to see her father stop smuggling, especially when the former empty abbey where he stores the goods, has now been bought and 4 men live there, including Viscount Ewan Fraser. Ewan suffers terrible nightmares and flashbacks from being a prisoner of war in France and having been forced to shoot his own men. When he meets Kyla, it’s instant attraction for both of them but he must find out what she is hiding and she must hide the truth otherwise her family’s life will be destroyed.

Poor Kyla Brodrick is caught between a kleptomaniac mother a father who won’t give up smuggling. She’s trying to hold everything together and make sure her younger sister’s marriage to a viscount goes off without a hitch. Not to please their social-climbing mother but because her sister is very much in love. Kyla hopes this will convince her parents to give up their unsavory habits and that they can have a normal life.
When the abandoned Abbey her father uses to store goods is purchased by four Scotsmen, it becomes even more imperative that he cease his illegal actions before the new owners discover his hidden cache of goods and he winds up wanted by the Crown.
Ewan Fraser Viscount Kilbreck, is impoverished and haunted by his experiences at war and his inability to save the men who served under him. Even the holy grounds of the Abbey he just purchased haven’t helped his nightmares and when he stumbles upon Kyla in the darkened grounds, forced to help her father’s associates, he mistakes her for a ghost. Ewan soon figures out that Kyla is very real and very involved in the smuggling ring that has been making use of his house. He can’t believe he was so easily drawn in and fooled, and he’s not entirely certain he really cares.
Overall this was a quick and enjoyable novella with a likeable hero and a heroine with awful parents.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have been trying to pull back on reviews but when I saw the two books by Tarah Scott on Booksprout I knew I just had to read them. This one is such a unique and intriguing story. I was so impressed by the characters and plot. There was great chemistry too. I bet Ewan never thought his ghost would turn out so real! Tarah Scott is a very talented writer and just like every book I have read by her this one is well worth reading. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Kyla is a miss who is frustrated that her father won’t stop smuggling. Oh, and he happens to store his stolen goods in the abbey.
The very Blackstone Abbey that has four men in kilts running around now that Ewan has inherited it.
Ewan is a little lost and looking for peace at the abbey when he thinks Kyla is a ghost.
