I fell in love with the characters immediately. Although Rose was a haughty courtesan and believed herself not only the best, the favorite of the madam but also that she was better than the rest of the women in the brothel. For some reason I knew she had a conscious under her hard facade. She was an orphan when the Madam plucked her from the street at the tender age of six. Madam Olivia taught her everything she knew and she was the most successful courtesan in all of London. Lord William Clifford the heir to Viscount Donald Clifford became enamored with Rose from the first moment he saw her. Not only that but he saw the person she really was. She was intelligent well read and witty. An excellent conversationalist. Although she never got to display that part of her personality until William came into her life. William was a dutiful son always acquiescing to his parent’s wishes for his life and future. William is an understanding compassionate man who respected and loved his family and always put duty above all else. But with Rose in his life came a multitude of complications. This is a beautiful love story. It is full of realistic emotions and feelings. The actions and reactions of the characters were honest and at time humbling. This is a quick read, a real page turner and when I finished the book, I did not want the story to end. I would have loved an epilogue 5 years down the line letting us see what happened to our lovers and William’s brother Henry and sister Beatrice. Also, it would have been grand to see how William’s revenge on Lord Doris affected him. I would have loved to read about his comeuppance for the cruel way he treated Rose. Other than that, I loved this story and highly recommend it.
A beautiful story that will gladden the heart
by sewsummore
When a cold and hauntingly beautiful woman falls in love for the first time in her life she reassesses what is important to her. Desperate to leave the only life she has known, she makes a decision with far reaching consequences. William was a wealthy Lord, he was actively courting the daughter of a Lord but his heart was not in it. When he discovers that the woman he did love has been abandoned he races to her side. This was an unusual outcome when you realize that men do not marry lovers in the age this book was set. However William did marry Rose and made sure she never regretted it. Their love was strong and true, it needed to be to survive the condemnation of his peers and family. A beautiful story that will gladden the heart

Is their romance possible?
This one was different and interesting and well worth reading. Rose, a courtesan was raised in the brothel from the age of 6 and has become to believe she is above the other courtesans. I am not sure why William was attracted to her? Then, on the other hand, the author has written a character that is not so unlike Ms. Rose. I think that is why I like the story I read the sweet hea romances but sometimes it is nice to read one with characters that are really not likable it is like a breath of fresh air. This book may not be for everyone it has sex and domestic spanking you know, but it fits into the story very well. I liked the book. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Destined To Be
Rose is the most sought after in her profession due to her high skill at luring men. She has a reputation for getting revenge on anyone who annoys her.
Still, with all her pride and confidence, her world is shaken after meeting Lord William Clifford.
Lord William had no intentions of partaking of any services offered at the masquerade ball but agreed to attend with his friend Lord Robert Tyne.
William’s resolve and intentions are thrown out the windows as the most beautiful woman he has ever seen walks in and takes one look at him. It felt as if he had been struck by heavy targeted lightning consuming him with emotion and magnetism much stronger than any lust could.
It began when Rose enamored William though his friend warns she knows how to snare a man into her web.
He returns to requests the presence of Rose, but he totally confuses her when he does not use her favors but enjoys witty conversation instead.
He realizes she is prone to cause disruption and intentionally causes the other courtesans grief with their employee. William is not pleased and calls her on it,
The conversation and actions of Lord William stir her curiosity to the point she decides what he said was true. She talks to John and reaches out to correct the mistakes she made in front of William.
Rose changes at this point thoroughly upset that she has lost William. He treated her like a lady and only wanted to talk.
As with all parents of title men of this era, Williams parents have a lady picked out for him to marry. Up to this point, he has avoided Lady Lillian at all cost.
Rose is not the kind of woman his parents would approve of but how could he possibly marry someone else when all he thinks of is Rose.
How can he spend the rest of his life without love and happiness? He still has not found a way to forget about Rose, and the above mentioned is unbearable.
Royalty needs someone special in their lives also even if it breaks all the standard royal rules. They are destined to be together, which is why Rose and William have such a dynamic impact on each other.

Lord William fell in love with Rose the courtesan and she with him. It was hard to accept his feelings until hardships befell her. Then they faced his parents disapproval. But love prevails.

Rose is a beautiful young woman that was raised in the brothel by Olivia. She
has a lot to learn about life in general. She is the most sought after courtesan
at the brothel and as such becomes prideful and never has any friends. She
has fallen in love with Lord William Clifford. Lord Clifford falls in love with her
wit and ability to carry on conversation instead of her body. She becomes
hurt as he finds she has been involved in playing pranks with other courtesans
to get them in trouble. William finds out and says she is a shallow person and
an impostor. He is in love with her but his parents have picked out a more suitable
young lady they wish him to marry. Rose goes to his home to ask him to take her
own as his mistress but William turns her down. This just starts another bunch of
hurt in Rose. There are many twists and turns still left in this story. You have to read
it you won’t regret it.

This is a love story between Lord William and Rose who is a courtesan. William’s family has decided he needs to marry a lady of society and have picked out his future bride. He has always gone along with his family’s wishes but Rose causes him to want a marriage based on love. There is a HEA but a lot happens before this occurs. It is a great read and very entertaining.
There is no love for a courtesan. No place for emotion or deep feelings for anyone, much less paying customers. Being haughty and cold is a way to protect herself. This is the only life that she knows. When a handsome Lord visits, she is alarmed to discover an attraction she has never felt before. Is she really the mean girl he sees? Can she change? Will it matter?

I’ve read a couple of books by this author now & despite their flaws I have quite liked them. I wanted to like this book. It’s not long – easy enough to get through in a couple of hours & the premise was interesting. With a title like A Haughty Courtesan I wasn’t expecting to instantly like Rose but I was surprised by just how much I really didn’t like her. She’s everything I don’t want in a person in my life – egotistical, narcissistic, mean spirited & spiteful. While William is put up to be a contrast to her – a nice guy, I still was disappointed in his very egocentric mindset. While he was very attracted to Rose, he was only really concerned about himself. I thought it would be interesting to see how they go from being those 2 people to a couple with a HEA in such a short book. It did get there & the ending was very satisfying but it was only the last third of the book that I actually started to enjoy it. I’m not going to stop reading this author because of this book but it’s definitely not my favourite.
This is the story of Rose, a courtesan. She was raised in the brothel from the age of 6, when the Madam took her from the streets. Once she became of age, she became the most sought over courtesan in the town. She was haughty and superior and did not associate with the other courtesans as she felt they were beneath her. Then she meets Sir William. She comes to care for him and he for her. There is a HEA after many trials and tribulations for them both.
I am sorry but maybe this author is just not for me. I did not find one character in this book with any redeeming qualities – not even the hero even though he was better than everyone else. From the synopsis I was really excited to read the story but it did not live up to expectations.
