A strong independent woman meets her match.
Excellent storyline for 2 intelligent people
This is a manuscript in search of an editor. The numerous grammatical errors are distracting.
Plot was OK, but the writing style was substandard.
I thought it a good read.
Started out good but slowed considerably.
Rubbish!
Great book! Full of suspense!
This book had a good basic story, but the story was so wordy! It was as if the author wanted a high word count Instead of a good story. I did not enjoy the story!
I’m shocked to see how many books are available by this author. I felt that the actual writing was AWFUL. Example: “Although she had insisted that she did not need more.” Hello! Where is the verb? Or “This revealed and confirmed so much more.” This what?? I quit on this book and author, which is a shame for the premise was very good.
I thought it was a free book it just got me interested and then said I’d have to pay to read the rest
Americans writing novels set in old british isles should know they confuse locals, America is much more a melting pot and name there may wel be random, but over here names are region and time specific, and if a random name crops up an explanation seems neccesary, or it implies you don’t know what you are writing about. It grates on a British ear. An Irish or Scottish name in England, or Welsh or vise versa.
Enjoyed this story!
Despite being born English, Amelia had always lived in India. Her only living relatives (her deceased father’s two brothers) die and make her the rightful person to take the title of Countess. Her mother arranged a marriage for her in England. Until Amelia marries, the Duke Alexander Wentworth will be her guardian. Her father was the Duke’s mentor, and one of her uncles a friend to the duke. The Duke is a widower, having lost his wife to childbirth a year ago. It had been a loveless marriage, but he respected and cared for her. When Alexander sees Amelia, sparks fly and her beauty is irresistible. One kiss proves that the fire between them burns bright. They cannot stay apart from the fierce chemistry. Forces rise against them, and they soon realize they have to join hands if they want to be together. – I loved the duke and Amelia. They are both intelligent, caring, and honest. They fast became friends, and the chemistry between them sizzled. Amelia, unlike many members of the ton, did not think she was above servants. Her maid/lady in waiting, Tanvi, who came with Amelia from India, was like a sister. Ambrose, to whom her mother arranged Amelia to marry, was a scoundrel. Amelia knew exactly how to handle him. I enjoyed the way Amelia handled those who crossed her. This is a very good read. There is an “extended epilogue” on the author’s website. It is about Tanvi, not Amelia.
I loved this story. It goes to show that the heart wants what it wants. It seems improper to fall in love with your ward, but the Ton should have been more circumspect in appointing a man who is still in his prime. In the end, both fight for what they want, and isn’t love worth fighting for?
A well written story and to date this has been the best Historical story I have read this year. A story that grabbed my interest from the very first page. I will be reading again.
I love reading a story with a strong no-nonsense heroine. Amelia Wright is a kick-@ss heroine. She grew up respecting all around her regardless of station or class. She does have a temper but did learn to control it. She is wise beyond her years. She was a young lady when she arrived in England. In several short months she turned into a responsible mistress of her inherited estate and became a woman to be reckoned with, respected and admired. Alexander Wentworth, Duke of Wentworth, is an older man. He is 15 years Amelia’s senior. He has a reputation of being a wise, kind and thoughtful man. He is well respected by his staff and the people that live on his properties. Alexander is a loving father to his young daughter. When Amelia and Alexander meet sparks fly. Even though this is an older man younger woman situation, the way it is written brings much needed maturity to this sub-genre. There were a few times Amelia showed her young ways. However, most of the time she exemplified herself as a equal to Alexander. This story is refreshing to read. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This was a wonderful romance read. I truly enjoyed it. It had me hooked from the beginning to the end. Wonderful storyline and it had strong characters.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Amelia was born and reared in India where her beloved father served. She speaks and acts like a native born Indian wearing a sari with bare belly, climbing trees and farming although she speaks and has been taught the English manners of her true people. Her father died when she was fourteen and her mother has remarried another English officer. At age twenty both her father’s brothers are killed in a carriage accident leaving her as the only offspring of the Wright family and heir to the whole estate. She must make the four month sea voyage to go to England and assume the duties of countess. Her mother gave her a box of documents regarding her inheritance to study on the voyage. Some weeks into the trip she begins her study of the papers and eventually comes to a letter from her mother that infuriates her. She has been assigned a guardian to guide her in her affairs and betrothed to her stepfather’s younger son. She knows neither of these men but what a story the meeting and dealing with them make–all the way to a meeting with the Prince Regent!
INCREDIBLY AMAZING!!!
OMG! Man, talk about hitting all the right places. Henrietta totally nailed all the emotions running through me unchecked. I fell in love with this little gem. One fantastic storyline and strong plot bring this read roaring to life spectacularly. The sincerity and passion encased in this heartwarming, pulse racing, heart pounding, rollercoaster ride full of promise and heartache that can either keep you standing strong or bring you to your knees. The chemistry and intense feelings the two main characters share is soul deep and palpable. Twists and twinned, pulled through a shredder backwards builds walls that only true love can crumble. Henrietta out did herself with this precious little jewel. Remarkable job Henrietta, thanks for sharing this little treasure with us.
Loved the story of Amelia and Alexander and the love they come to feel for each other. Because he is her guardian, he has got to find a way to be relieved of his guardianship in order to marry her. Along the way obstacles are placed in front of them and they have to maneuver around them. There is a lot happening in the book and it is a good read. I would highly recommend this book.
