Enjoyable cozy read at the beach or bedtime.
A young woman, servant to an English family, survives a car bomb in which her employers and their daughter are killed. She takes the identity of the daughter, who has been her best friend, and travels from India to England, where she hopes to be accepted as a family member. A murder occurs on her voyage; she solves the crime. Landing in London, she is quickly embroiled in another murder. Can she solve the crime without revealing her identity and losing her new family, and an inheritance? And can she find the killer of her own parents and brother – a murder which left her an orphan? The plot perks along nicely, as the spunky heroine persists through the moral dilemma of her unsought inheritance, and some quite unlikely circumstances. A quick, pleasant read.
An Imposter for a Noble Cause
PG-13
No sex
No Strong language
Recurring and unpleasant memories of violence that most teens – adults should be able to stomach.
4 instead of 5 stars because so much of the plot of book #1 is revealed, including whodunit. Otherwise, a 5 star cozy.
Agatha Christie fans will get a smile over the name of the incidental character, Detective Achilles Prideaux. For the uninitiated, a recurring Christie main character is Hercule Poirot. Please pick one up and read it.
Plot no spoilers:
Rose arrives in London expecting to be met by family members. When no one is immediately there for her, she goes looking, turns down an alley, and witnesses an altercation between two men. Later one of them is found dead.
Although she knows she should stay out of it, it’s not long before she’s investigating on her own, obviously putting herself in danger.
Good plot twists. I suspected who the true villain was, but not right away.
Recommended.
Loving this new series. I want more! NOW!!! So different from author’s other books.
I love the feeling that I am really there and love the era that it occurs in. You get another piece of “Rose’s” own personal mystery.
Another mystery that takes me till the end to figure out who did it. I read in one day.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
