Lindsay Vanderbilt’s dream life turned into a nightmare in a single day. Her husband and his best friend have been ambushed by an old nemesis, and Lindsay’s five-year-old son, Jackie, has been kidnapped. A day later she discovers John ‘Jackson’ Rainhorse has also been attacked in Yemen by professional mercenaries. The former Ranger is missing and presumed to be dead.Just when it looks like things … like things couldn’t get worse, the assailants decide they must kill Lindsay and force her mother to pay an enormous ransom within two days in order to save her grandson.
The FBI is slow in their investigation, and find themselves hopelessly behind the clock.
With Lindsay under attack, her husband in a coma, and time running out to save Jackie, things appear lost, until a good Samaritan emerges, teaming up with Joseph “Kujo” Kuntz and his best friend, a German Shepherd named Six, to find the kidnappers and make a stand against the deadly assailants.
The conclusion is explosive and tragic.

Wow! I did not think that Jesse’s Rainhorse series could get any better, but I was wrong. Every book is amazing yet this goes a step beyond. The same engaging characters return in A Good Samaritan and they are thrust into a waking nightmare where no one is safe and they cannot escape. This story is a riveting nail-biting read, full of action and suspense from beginning to end. From the first chapter I was pulled in and I could not put it down until I read the last page.
A Good Samaritan picks up several years after Rainhorse: The Return. Lindsay is older, more mature and has settled into life on the reservation with a husband and young child. Her new family is wonderful, her foundation is doing great and all around life is good. Until one day when her life turns into a nightmare that no one saw coming. Her husband, Matty, and his best friend, Red, (whom we were introduced to in Rainhorse: The Return) are ambushed and their young son, Jackie, kidnapped. From the start there are more questions than answers surrounding the attack and abduction and while her husband and his friend cling to life, Lindsay calls in an old friend from the FBI to help find her son. During this time she gets more distressing news. Rainhorse and Neha, who are living and working abroad were also attacked by mercenaries and presumed dead. Then, as if all of this was not enough, Lindsay is lured away, attacked and almost killed when she is suddenly rescued by a good Samaritan. This was a coordinated, brutal assault on all fronts from an old nemesis that no one was prepared for. While sorting information, gathering clues, and following leads, Lindsay’s family and friends close ranks and the good Samaritan, with the help from old friends, jump into the fight. Time is running out to find answers, rescue Jackie and eliminate the threat for good.
There is an urgency you can feel from the beginning of this story and Jesse does a fabulous job of pulling you in to the emotions of the characters. It is an action filled adrenaline rush with tragic undertones that will keep you holding your breath, anxious for the outcome. The storyline is fast-paced and gripping and the characters are engaging. A lot of characters from the previous Rainhorse books make an active appearance in this story adding more interest and depth to the read. This was a great addition to the series.
*I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily providing my honest review. This is one series that I hope will continue.
I love Rainhorse. As usual there is a lot of action. I was really worried there for a while. Loved seeing Matty, Red, Lindsay and Summer Rose. Surprised all around.
In A Good Samaritan, fans of Rainhorse get to catch up with Lindsay, Matty, Summer and Red Feather and even a guest appearance by Kujo and Six (from Elle James’ Brotherhood Protectors). Great writing and plenty of action and some twists that catch the reader by surprise. Fans of Elle James and Susan Stoker will surely enjoy A Good Samaritan. Enjoy!
A fantastic read and tissues are a must. Reading it and finding near tragedy at the near beginning had my heart in my mouth. As the book goes on you start to realise that this may be the end of some fantastic characters we have grown to love in these books. Lindsay’s world is turned on it’s axis as her beloved husband is fighting for his life and her son is missing, her friends husband is also fighting for his life after an ambush. Her world gets even smaller as she hears the news that Rainhorse and his wife are feared dead after an ambush. As a person from their past makes himself known and hires mercenaries to kill Lindsay it’s a race against time to get her son back with the help of a Good Samaritan. Will they all survive??? Bestest book ever. OMG did I use a few tissues with this one. Absolutely amazing read.
Another great book in the Rainhorse series! Lots of action and the characters are great its been a long time to see Rainhorse again and it was worth the wait.
Omg this book was absolutely fantastic. I was sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time reading this book. Its filled with suspense, action packed and a happy ending and most of all Rainhorse returns .I can honestly say that I am addicted to these books.
I love Rainhorse. As usual there is a lot of action. I was really worried there for a while. Loved seeing Matty, Red, Lindsay and Summer Rose. Surprised all around.
Well, the story continues. Five years later, way too long for Rainhorse. Lindsay’s world is falling apart all in the same day, someone has shot her husband, his cousin, Rainhorse and his wife and kidnapped her son, all in different locations. The story is non-stop filled with action and adventure. We even see Kujo and Six. Rainhorse is such an awesome character, he’s changed and evolved over all the stories, and it’s a privilege to watch as a reader. The strength of his character and those that he trusts makes you feel good. I highly recommend this book and others by Ms. Jacobson.
I received this advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.
