She will fight for her freedom. He will fight for her life.Mila might be slaveborn, but she has no intention of remaining a slave. Impatient for her freedom, the nineteen-year-old takes matters into her own hands. Armed with the combat skills her half-brother taught her, Mila ignores the pleas of her family and takes to the arena. She is prepared to do whatever is necessary, prepared for … necessary, prepared for anything—except Remus Latinius.
Raised inside the greatest gladiator school in Rome, Remus fought hard for his freedom. He earned it the only way he knew how—in the arena. Now he is content training others to do the fighting—or so he thought. Something changes the night he meets a slave girl desperate to prove herself. He should walk away, but the gods have other plans.
This is the first book in the historical action romance series Roman Hearts. If you enjoy a moving love story with strong female characters, then you will love A Gladiator’s Oath.

Wonderful characters in an amazing historical setting. Mila is an inspiring heroine. The folks she encounters — from her brother and parents, to friends and protectors are fascinating people in their own right. Basic human needs and struggles are the same as in other books, but the setting of ancient Rome makes it unusual and adds depth and new dimensions.
A Gladiator’s Oath (Roman Hearts Book 1) by Tanya Bird
This is a new author to me and I look forward to reading more of her books! I really enjoyed being transported back in time when the world gathered to Rome’s coliseums to watch and be entertained by the infamous gladiators and the wild exotic animals as they fight to the death. It starts out with Mila who is a slave and a gifted street fighter with one goal which is to earn her freedom from slavery. Mila got that opportunity when she was bought as a slave by a woman who herself dreamed of fighting as a gladiator when she was younger but was denied because, of her upper class status. So, vicariously she paid for Mila’s gladiator training by the best gladiator of the time and contracted an agreement if she won the one fight she would give Mila her freedom. If only it was that easy. The storyline is engaging and well written with great attention to world building detail and, the plot has a couple surprising twists I didn’t see coming. I loved the charming chemistry, witty banter, and the slow burn romance between the admirable and heart felt protagonists. This story is touching and tells of the power of believing in oneself, and the strength and fortitude to keep going through extreme physical and emotional pain, and the metal to never give up and to never give in. I’m looking forward to the next book. Happy Reading!
I love to read for leisure but I rarely find a book that enthralls me so much that I don’t want to put down. This book did that!
Fascinating setting, loveable hero and a strong heroine who is still authentic and human; this book checked all of those boxes. An exciting romance set in ancient Rome that will definitely keep you turning the pages.
Beautifully written
Enjoyed the action
Loves this book, created a wonderful world. Great romance scenes! Bought the rest of the series and just wished they had been more original. It was just the same story retold. There was so much potential in the third one to have a Roman in with another culture, instead we went and repeated again…
Great story and characters.
Couldn’t get into it
Interesting story about a female gladiator. A twist on the usual female roles in history. Found the story intriguing and untraditonal showing another side of the Roman Empire.
Step back into time, way back. Women Roman gladiators. Suspense, tears & joy! A must read!
I enjoyed reading it. Set in Rome (mostly) 100+ years AD.
Original and entertaining.
Great read; hard to put down
What a great job in making me feel like I was actually there! Characters were wonderful and I feel I know them. A true historical story.
