Samantha Chase does small town romance so well!
A Girl Like You is the second book in Chase’s new Magnolia Sound series and features former summer time bad boy and the preacher’s daughter.
Sam Westbrook spent is adolescent summers raising hell and braking hearts at his great-grandfather’s home in Magnolia Sound. Shelby Abbott was the preacher’s daughter who was a few years younger and rule follower, so their paths never really crossed…until they’re both all grow up.
For both Sam and Shelby there’s an instantaneous connection but he sees himself through the eyes of the town’s harshest critics and she sees herself as not enough for him. I really enjoyed watching Shelby come into her own and stand up for herself and what she wanted. Sam was a little on the lost and immature side but showed up when it mattered most.
I also loved getting more incite into Susanna and Colton’s budding relationship and can’t wait to hear more about them in future Magnolia Sound books along with cousin Mason, who is really becoming a favorite of mine!
I received a complimentary review copy of this book but all opinions are my own.
Sam Westbrook is so dreamy. At least to look at. He’s a wanderer. He doesn’t settle down in one place for too long until he inherits the landscaping business his great grandfather built. I really liked Sam. He is trying to become the adult his Pops saw him as. He has always gotten into trouble with this small town. He did things without thinking about the consequences. But he’s slowly cleaning up the town from the devastation caused by the hurricane. And he’s feeling the creative juices that he has always had for landscaping.
Shelby Abbott is the preachers daughter. She has a reputation of being the good girl but she’s tired of living the sheltered life. She wants to be out on her own and make her own way in life. She is close with her parents but she doesn’t want to disappoint them. Her best friend talks her I to doing things her way and Shelby gets a makeover. She also gets the attention of Sam. They are such opposites but compliment each other so well. They both have personal issues that they lift each other up for. Sam can’t believe Shelby is with him and Shelby can’t believe he is with her. I adored Shelby. She comes into her own through this book. Her rose colored glasses come off and she sees the world for what it is. And she comes out fighting. The injustices stand no chance. And Sam? I think he grows more than any other character I have read from Samantha Chase.
Absolutely loving this new series by Samantha! 5 stars for this one!
We head back to Magnolia Sound, Sam, who’s back in town to run the landscaping business for a year as per his great grandfathers wishes, then he can sell it and get out of town. He’s always been known as the troublemaker in town, he’s tired of hearing the residents whispering about him. He wants his life back, and he resents his great grandfather making him do this.
Shelby, pastors daughter and librarian in Magnolia, quiet, always follows her parents rules, till her best friend makes her go out one night where she meets Sam, the man she stares at when he’s working next door to the library! She panics, he doesn’t recognize her and runs off!
Follow their story as the pastors daughter and the town bad boy has the entire town of Magnolia wondering whats going on with them!
A Girl Like You proves that stories are at their most compelling when the author keeps it simple. Sam and Shelby, represent a little piece of every heart that dares to dream, but fears the outcome. Sam is bad boy intent on being good. Shelby is a good girl that yearns to taste how it feels to be bad. When the angel takes a walk on the wild side, is when the drama really begins. Can two misfits survive small town gossip, while taking a chance on love? Chase brings a little slice of heaven down to earth in every rainbow that she writes. Her stories brighten every heart they touch.
Sam inherited a landscape company, but he has to work there for a full year or he would loose it.
Shelby is a librarian, her father is a Pastor.
They meet at a bar in different town. Sam doesn’t recognize Shelby. They share a kiss.
He can’t forget about her, then one day he meets her again and find out who she is.
They start spending a lot of time together.
I loved reading this story.
It’s awesome.
Love this series.
Great Read!! I loved Sam and Shelby’s story! Shelby is a strong, independent woman with a mind of her own. Even as a preachers daughter she stood her ground when it came to her feelings for Sam. Sam made my heart hurt because all he wanted was acceptance from the town and to do the right thing by Shelby but no one would give him a break. This story was inspirational and sexy, romantic and realistic. I couldn’t put it down! Can’t wait to read Mason’s story!
When Sam Westbrook inherits a landscaping company with the stipulation he has to run it for a year, being in Magnolia Sounds is not his cup of tea. When a chance encounter with Shelby happens, the time spent in the area is not so bad after all. But when his past reputation comes back to haunt him will it be the end of his relationship with Shelby or the beginning of a brand new Sam? Once again Samantha Chase does not disappoint. She creates characters we fall in love with and heart warming storylines that put smile on our faces. Cannot wait for Mason’s book.
A cocky playboy who falls hard for a shy but feisty librarian? Yes, please!
Sam is forced to return to Magnolia to fulfill the terms of his great grandfather’s will. And he’s NOT happy about it. A chance encounter with Shelby changes his mind. But Sam has quite a reputation around town and no one is forgetting it, especially Sam.
I absolutely loved these two! Shelby was anything but the meek, quiet librarian everyone thought she was. And Sam had a heart of gold to go along with his charm. This was a fun, sexy return to Magnolia Sound!!
This is another story from Magnolia Sound. The Westbrook family we met in Sun Kissed Days and Remind Me continues to grow. This is Sam Westbrook’s story.
Sam is being forced to stay in Magnolia Sound to carry out his great-grandfather’s last wishes. He left Sam the landscaping business and it is all Sam can do to put in the year required.
Shelby Abbott is the preacher’s daughter. She’s always done the right and expected thing…until she falls for the town bad boy.
Except the bad boy has grown up into a decent man and Shelby wants everyone to know it. Can their new love help overcome years of expectations on both of them?
Another can’t-put-down story from Samantha Chase. Can’t wait for Mason’s story…
This book was an absolute pleasure to read. It is equal parts Sexy, Sweet, Adorable and Heartwarming. Sam and Shelby are just the sweetest couple and I loved being on the ride as they found their HEA.
Sam is back in Magnolia Sound for one year to run the landscaping business his great grandfather left to him. He had to leave his life in Virginia which he really did not want to do in order to do that and now that he is back, he is having a hard time escaping the reputation he had when he was younger. Shelby is a hometown girl and works as a librarian. When they first meet at a bar, Sam has no idea who Shelby is, but he is immediately smitten. They may not appear to be a good match on the surface, but as they get to know each other, there couldn’t be a more perfect match. I enjoyed watching their relationship grow so much! They just needed to get over a few small speed bumps to get there. Love this story, Love Sam and Shelby and Love this series! I totally can’t wait for Mason’s story next!!
This series is the perfect beach escape, and just wait until you meet Sam and Shelby! These two are as different as night and day, and no one in the small beach community of Magnolia Sound would ever put them together.
Sam is less than thrilled about having to spend a year in Magnolia Sound to fulfill the terms of his great-grandfather’s will and inherit his landscaping business. He did some dumb things as a kid during his summers there, and the people of Magnolia Sound have long memories, but Sam is trying to restore his reputation and he’s putting his heart into his landscape business.
Shelby is the town’s good girl. Sweet, agreeable, quiet, a little awkward, the town librarian and the Baptist preacher’s daughter – all things that would typically make a girl invisible to Sam. But when he meets her out at a club, one look is all it takes for him to be hooked.
I love Sam and Shelby, and they’re both so good for each other! Sam has a skewed perception about what others think of him and in getting to know Shelby he starts to see things more clearly. And Shelby is the true hero in this story. She learns bravery, finds her inner strength, speaks her mind and stands up to people. I loved watching her grow and was cheering her on every step of the way.
The books in this series stand alone, so you can start with this one and catch up on the others afterwards if you haven’t read them yet. A Girl Like You is a sweet, funny, uplifting story and a great way to get away from real life for a few hours. Don’t miss Sam and Shelby’s story.

What a fabulous book! I really loved
reading it. It’s a heartwarming, sexy
& moving romance.
Shelby, is the town’s librarian. She feels
like she’s invisible. Even as adult, Shelby,
is still bending to what her parents
expect of her.
Sam, grew up visiting Magnolia Sound
every summer & holiday. He just inherited
a business in town, with stipulations.
Sam, is not happy.
But everything changed the night Sam
& Shelby, meet.
The story will draw you in, from the very beginning, & keep you reading till the end.
I enjoyed everything about this Must Read Story!!!
Sam Westbrook has inherited a thriving landscape company from his grandfather. Unfortunately it comes with conditions. He has to live in Magnolia Sounds & he has to give it a year. Sam is in his own personal nightmare. He hates being back in his judgmental home town. No one can forgive the immature stunts he pulled & give him a second chance. No one until Shelby anyway.
Shelby Abbott is the prim, proper librarian daughter of Pastor Steve from the Baptist Church. Shelby has never rebelled against her parents or their expectations. Well, not in any major way. She did have LASIK even though they said it was a waste of money. Then on a night out with a friend, a dream came true. Sam Westbrook spoke to her & danced with her.
Sam & Shelby are the perfect pairing. At first it looks like there is no way they’ll work. They manage to bring out the best in each other. Shelby helps Sam to see the other side of living in a small town and Sam gives Shelby the courage to assert herself & take control of her life. The characters were all well defined & reminiscent of small towns. It’s always painful to find out your parents aren’t what you thought they were & Shelby’s heartbreak & disillusionment came through perfectly. This was a really good story & I can’t wait for Mason’s story.
A Girl Like You by Samantha Chase is the third book in the Magnolia Sound series. I have thoroughly enjoyed all the books in the series. The books are wonderfully written and I love the characters and the setting. I really enjoy how Samantha Chase writes from the perspective of the main characters, that way you get the point of view of each of the characters. A Girl Like You is the story of “bad boy” Sam Westbrook and the pastor’s daughter Shelby Abbott. Sam returns to Magnolia Sound following the death of his great-grandfather, Ezekiel “Zeke” Coleman. In his will Zeke leaves Sam his landscaping business since Sam is the only family member that Zeke felt had a “green thumb”, but their are strings attached to Sam’s inheritance. Sam must run the landscaping business in Magnolia Sound for one year, if he sells before the year is up, Sam’s cousin Mason will inherit the proceeds from the sale. Sam and Shelby meet during a chance encounter in a bar in Wilmington. Both wanting to put some distance between themselves and Magnolia Sound. Shelby knows who Sam is, but Sam does not know that Shelby is the pastor’s daughter. In his youth, Sam was a wild child and because Magnolia Sound is such a small town, no one will give him the benefit of the doubt that he has changed, including Shelby’s parents. As the romance blossoms between Sam and Shelby, the residents of Magnolia Sound continue to talk behind their backs. No only does Shelby hear the gossip, she questions Sam’s commitment to her and Magnolia Sound. She knows that Sam only plans on staying in Magnolia Sound for the year and then selling the business. Is Shelby willing to risk her heart on a romance with an expiration date? I love the characters and how the story is filled with bittersweet moments and of course the surprise plot twist. I love how both Sam and Shelby changed throughout the story. Samantha Chase has once again delivered an amazing story of love conquers all. Looking forward to starting In Case You Didn’t Know.
A pleasant read.
GOOD SUMMER READ
This was another Samantha Chase success! I loved this story line and read it non-stop beginning to end.
I was so excited to see that Sam (Mallory’s brother from Remind Me, Book #1) was getting his own story! Sam is misunderstood. He used to be a hell-raiser but has changed as he got older and just wishes people would stop whispering about him behind his back. I guess he has everything to prove just not the will to do it. Until he meets the local librarian who makes him want to change his ways for the better! Will Sam ever come to his senses? Or will his past act as a brick wall for his future? You will find out in A Girl Like You which is now available.
Samantha Chase has written a wonderful beach read here and I devoured this book in only a few hours. It’s a fairly light read, one that can easily be read within a day, and has a great romance story line. Having enjoyed the previous book in the series (which can standalone) I have fallen in love with Magnolia Sound. I absolutely cannot wait for the next one!
Samantha Chase fans are going to love this one and I very much recommend giving it a try! I think this is the perfect beach bag companion!
Samantha Chase
I love this series! I was intrigued by Sam when I read Mallory & Jake’s book, and so when I found out that Sam was the focus of book 2 I was so excited! I love that he found the woman who helped him realize that his past was the past and that what really matters is how he lives now. Shelby was so perfect for him!! I love that Sam helped Shelby feel heard & loved for who she was. Such a wonderful book!
I love coming to Magnolia Sound and seeing this little town grow again. Grandpappy Ezekial sure left alot of big shoes to fill and it’s weighing heavily on Sam. Him and Shelby live in the same town for years but are barely now seeing well how right they complete each other. Samantha Chase did a beautiful job in showing us people should never judge people and forgiveness sure can help a long way. Cannot wait for book 3 and Mason’s story. Loved it.
