Sam Westbrook has always been the family hell-raiser, but as an adult he’s enjoyed not being under the constant watchful eye of his family. That was until his great-grandfather passed away. Forced to move to the small coastal town of Magnolia Sound, Sam can’t escape the reputation that has followed him since his teenage years. But he’ll have to do it to get his inheritance.Shelby Abbott was … Abbott was always the good girl – it’s what happens when you’re the pastor’s daughter in a small town. Now, she’s ready to leave that image behind. For years she’s heard about wild Sam Westbrook, but she never thought she would be the one to catch his eye. And being the center of Sam’s attention isn’t something Shelby ever prepared for.
Sam’s time in Magnolia Sound has an expiration date and Shelby’s not sure she’s the kind of girl who can be just another one of his flings. But Sam’s ready to make some changes. And a girl like her is just who he needs.

A Librarian and a landscaper slash used to be player… Sam and Shelby. Sam has a few chips on his shoulders , but needs the right lady to help him overcome his insecurities.Shelby is a quiet, preachers daughter who never really sees herself as anything else quiet and boring even though she tries. These two meet by chance and from there it is as expected a rollercoaster, with all the highs and lows and laughs that goes along with it. I found this the greatest story to read ,I just couldn’t put it down!! Of course its always nice to hear about Mallory and Mason.
Another great book by Samantha Chase. I absolutely loved, loved this story about Sam and Shelby. The story was so real feeling in that each character’s insecurities were laid out along with the conversations they had in their heads. It was great to see their relationship develop and how they gave strength to each other. It really showed to fight for what you want and need. I loved this story so much I didn’t want it to end. It hits you with all the feels. Outstanding!!! I can’t wait to see what happens next with this family.
Really fun, quick moving story about the so-called town “good girl” and “bad boy”! I love this trope and Samantha Chase did an excellent job on this one.
This is part of a series, so I strongly recommend reading books .5 Sunkissed Days and 1 Remind Me (Magnolia Sound, #1) before this one (you won’t regret it). I love that we’re getting to see each family member’s story – while being updated on the ones we already focused on! Sam & Shelby are two of my favorite characters and I like that you really get to see them grow throughout the book.
Book two of the Magnolia Sound series is a great addition. Sam Westbrook, the bad boy, trying to outlive his teenage reputation and prove to people that he is now an adult and he can’t understand why people don’t see him as such. If he didn’t have to remain there for a year to keep his inheritance intact he’d be gone back to his job in Virginia.
Shelby Abbott, the town librarian, and preachers daughter is an unlikely person to fall for the good looking, sexy bad boy and no one in town can understand why they are together including her mom and dad.
I enjoyed Sam return to Magnolia Sound and his time with Shelby. Samantha Chase can spin a story that sucks you in from the beginning and doesn’t let you go. A great story that won’t let you down. A great beach read from a great beach town. I enjoyed it immensely.
Book 2 in the Magnolia Sound series brings us back to the quaint little town with Sam & Shelby’s story. Sam is forced to move back to town when he inherits his great-grandfather’s landscaping business. Unfortunately for Sam the business is keeping him in Magnolia Sound when all he wants is to leave this town behind. Due to some foolish mistakes he made when he was younger he doesn’t believe the town can look at him as the grown man he is now and not the hellion he used to be. Shelby is the preacher’s daughter shy and sweet, town good girl who’s tired of her sheltered life. A chance encounter between the two will change life as they both know it. You really need to read this book and go on this journey with them as NOBODY writes small town romance better than the AMAZING Ms.Chase. We also get to see some more glimpses into Colton and Susanna’s relationship which is still in it’s early stages so I’m really looking forward to reading about them in a future book as well as Mason. I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion of this book and I would definitely recommend this book and I CAN’T WAIT to read the next book in the series.
Every time Samantha Chase starts a new series I want to move to the new small town she writes about! The second book in the Magnolia Sound series is another page turner. This time the town’s bad boy from when he was young meets the preacher’s daughter who is also the towns librarian. The way these opposites attract is a great read. Sam doesn’t really want to come back to Magnolia Sound but figures he will try it for a year to run the business Pops left him. Shelby has always been afraid to disappoint her parents and still wears her glasses because she does not want to tell them she had surgery. As the town continues to wonder why the two of them are together they work at finding their happily ever after and not worrying about what the town and her family have to say.
A Girl Like You was a cute read. Sam and Shelby were perfect together and I enjoyed watching them fall in love.
Sam is one of those people who doesn’t like to be too tied down to a person or a place or anything. He moves around and was a bit of a trouble maker growing up, but never did anything super bad. He never planned to go back home and live especially since everyone in their small town will look down on him for what he did in his past and he can’t stand that. They will only see who he was not who he has become and it is frustrating for him. Only his grandfather passed away and left him a business to run, a business he probably would have been happy to have if he wasn’t forced to work there for at least a year or forfeit the inheritance. He doesn’t like having to do things, he doesn’t like all the judgmental looks he gets from everyone in town, he just is not too happy. He is counting down the days until he can leave again.
Shelby is a librarian in town and loves living in Magnolia Sound. She is the preacher’s daughter, a good girl growing up, and never really got into any trouble. She has had a sorta crush on Sam for a bit now, but he would never notice someone like her.
When the two meet one night they hit it off, only things aren’t as easy as they seem. I love how Sam was all in right away. How when he knew what he wanted, when he found someone he connected with in that way he didn’t hesitate. He was really sweet, though he does have some issue in regard to his past and how people see him that he need to work on. He felt he was always selfish before, but now he tries not to be, but not always in the best ways. His heart was in the right place, but he doesn’t always do the right thing. He was sweet and I was so wanting things to work out for him.
And Shelby was a sweetheart as well. So kind and caring, but she has some hangups of her own to work through. They were really perfect together and it was fun watching them figure everything out. It was a cute, fun read.

Sam and Shelby’s story in A Girl Like You, book two in Samantha Chase’s Magnolia Sound series is an emotional and heartwarming tale of forgiveness, acceptance, redemption and maturing. Every summer Sam Westbrook would visit his great-grandfather and the town of Magnolia Sound with his twin sister and mother. Since the death of his great-grandfather and being forced to move to the town, Sam believes that the town remembers and judges him as the immature and a hell-raiser that he was, not the adult he has become. He will just have to learn how to deal with it and prove the doubters wrong in order to get his inheritance. Shelby Abbott has always been the “good girl”, staying in her comfort zone, and pleasing her parents. After all, she’s the pastor’s daughter and after all these years, she is ready to shed that image. She’s heard the wild stories about Sam so imagine her surprise when Sam, the Sam Westbrook, wants to spend time with her. She was not prepared for that. However, Sam has changed. He is not the wild, carefree man she expected; he is caring, protective, and hard working. Sam has always said that he would only be in Magnolia Sound as long as he needed to be. As much as Shelby wants to change, she not’s ready to have just a fling with Sam.
Poor Sam. He couldn’t get out of his own head that he deserved a second chance from the people of the town. Especially since only he was treated that way, not those who were with him at the time. Sam worked hard to help clean up the town and return it to its gloried, pre-hurricane status. It was fate that Shelby was the perfect girl for him. I admired how strong Shelby became and how she stood up to her parents and the town on their judgmental ways to remind them that Sam was a new person, a changed person, and worthy of a second chance. Shelby was definitely the girl Sam needed in order to become a better person, one he was proud to be.
Ms. Chase wrote a wonderful and emotional story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with sexual chemistry, amusing banter, and endearing characters giving Sam and Shelby the love and strength they needed. I highly recommend A Girl Like You to other readers and I can’t wait to read more about this family from Magnolia Sound and see what else is in store for us readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Sam Westbrook does not have the best reputation in Magnolia Sound. So he is not overly thrilled that his great grandfather left him a business in Magnolia Sound and said he had to live there for at least a year.
Shelby Abbott is the local librarian and has alway been a good girl. Never one to cause trouble or do things that would upset her parents.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved being back in Magnolia Sound. I love the characters, Sam was not what I was expecting at all, and I love that Shelby ends up being strong, and sassy with a bit of a naughty side. The storyline was great, it had me smiling and laughing along the way. It also gave me flutters in a few spots and had me feeling bad for the characters in a few spots. I love when a book can make you feel right along with the Characters and that’s what this book did. One chapter just gutted me and broke my heart, only to have the next chapter rebuild it and make my heart filled with love and joy. I loved getting to see more of their cousin Mason in this book, I can not wait for his story. I would definitely recommend this book!!
5 When the Good Girl Reforms the Bad Boy Stars!!
What happens when the bad boy of Magnolia Sound is forced to come back to the small coastal town he thought he’d left in his rearview mirror forever? This is the crux of this second novel in Ms. Chase’s Magnolia Sound series and Sam Westbook is a man that just can’t seem to catch a break…until he meets Shelby Abbott that is.
Shelby is the proverbial good girl who’s father is the Pastor in this small town and she’s heard rumors about Sam for years, but when they actually meet it’s unbelievable how much chemistry they have. The problem is that Sam doesn’t think he’s good enough for Shelby and she knows in her heart there’s more to this man than meets the eye! I loved this so much about this beautiful girl. Her innate goodness allows her to see past previous mistakes and makes Sam understand that she believes in him and who he is today!
Ms. Chase has written a beautiful heartwarming story that’s full of wit, confidence, implied passion and characters I can’t stop thinking about. Shelby may be the exact opposite of Sam and what he’s been attracted to in the past but he can’t help but fall for her…but his time in Magnolia Sound is supposed to be limited….can his love for this girl make him change his mind about what happens after his year is up?
If you’ve not discovered this series or Ms. Chase’s writing, now is the time because this is a not to be missed series and family that you’ll love from the first page to the last!
This is proving to be another wonderful series by Samantha Chase. This edition picks up with the Westbrook twins and delves into the story of Sam. It can be read as a stand alone, but it’s good to read Mallory’s story, also. I highly recommend it! Sam begrudgingly goes back to Magnolia Sound after the death of their grandfather and discovers there might just be something worth staying for. This book is perfect for a summer read! I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
What a Phenomenal vacation read! Samantha Chase’s latest release, A Girl Like You is the second full novel in her latest Magnolia Sound series. I loved every word.
When Sam Westbrook’s, great-grandfather left Sam his landscaping business in his will with the stipulation that Sam lives in Magnolia Sound for one year. Sam was a bit of a wild child growing up, and truthfully, still has a bit of the wild child still inside him. However, for the most part, he has grown up into a wonderful, upstanding man. He just wishes that the people of Magnolia Sound would quit holding his past transgressions against him and start seeing him for the man he has become, especially the pastor. Which is why, Sam cannot wait to leave the dust, or rather, the sand of Magnolia Sound behind and move back home. Well, that is until he meets Shelby Steele in the bar that night, and they become totally captivated by each other as days go by. The problem, the dear pastor is her father!!!
I have to say this, I REALLY did not care for Shelby’s parents, the pastor and his wife!!! I will just say this; the good pastor and his wife need to LIVE what they preach!!!
I really liked reading this story and finding out what happens between Shelby and Sam. Watching them overcome people’s opinions and growing as a couple. Ms. Chase has in my humble opinion, outdone herself yet again with this wonderful book. I cannot wait to read Mason’s story, which is coming out at the end of July!!! EEK, I can’t wait.
Thank you, Ms. Chase for sharing your wonderful talents as a writer and storyteller with your readers.
Thank you for reading my review. Now, what are you waiting for, go hit that purchase button at your favorite retailer. I did!!
I loved this book so much, I already bought the Audio version so I can listen to it as well!!!
Sam’s story was exactly what I’d been hoping to read for him. Sam the good guy with the bad reputation. He hated living in a small town where everybody thought they knew you and knew all about you. But for the love of a good woman, that man could turn himself around. Shelby was the town librarian and the preacher’s daughter. No one thought she should be with a guy like Sam. But of course they didn’t know him like she did. Their story is one of acceptance and not judging a book by it’s cover. The Magnolia Sound series is quickly becoming one of my favorites by Samantha Chase.
Another amazing book from Samantha Chase. Loved watching Sam and Shelby get to know each other and I really enjoyed watching the two of them come into their own and ultimately be together. Really enjoyed Shelby as the heroine of this book and watching her stand up to her parents and become an even better version of herself and of course Sam turning into the man that Pop’s knew he could be. A great addition to the Magnolia Sound series. One of my favorite lines from the book, “As long as you’re by my side, I think I can take on anything.”
I adored Sam and Shelby’s story! Sam had my heart from the get-go. In his younger days he was the town bad boy. He’s for the most part (achh-umm his recent urination incident…) cleaned up his act and is a hardworking, successful business owner doing great things to help clean up the town, but it seems the good people of Magnolia Sound can’t seem to let go of his old reputation. Shelby is the town’s good girl, the preacher’s daughter, the shy, quiet, geeky, girl-next-door type.
This unlikely pair couldn’t be more perfect for each other. Shelby draws from his strength and perseverance, gaining personal growth and opening her eyes and finding her voice. Shelby seems to ground Sam. He opens his heart and wants nothing more than to do the right thing to ensure Shelby’s happiness, even if it means breaking his own heart and walking away.
Sam and Shelby will steal your heart. Their story has it all and will leave you with that feel-good warm feeling all over. Samantha Chase writes the perfect romance and is an author you do not want to miss! I can’t wait for the next Magnolia Sound book!
Sam and his twin sister Mallory and there mom enjoyed vacationing at Magnolia Sound during the summer. Sam and his cousin Mason, were always getting into mischief.
After Sam’s great grand father passes away, Sam inherits Ezekiel’s landscaping business.
There is 1 condition. Sam must stay at Magnolia sound for 1 year or forfeit everything and the business goes to Mason.
Shelby the quiet and shy town librarian, not to mention the preachers daughter has a secret crush on Sam. He never noticed her until 1 night, Shelby and her friend go out of town to a club.
Shelby decides to dance and have a little fun.
She bumps into Sam, but he does not know who she is. After that 1 night, there lives change forever.
This one just made my heart full of good feelings and left me with a smile. I just knew grumpy Sam was full of so much goodness but when he met Shelby Abbott he was floored and she left him nervous and tongue tied. She may be the pastor’s daughter and the head librarian but Sam brings out the real Shelby and she blossoms and comes into her own. I definitely recommend this one and I’m not telling you anything else about it, just grab a copy and read it, you will not be disappointed!
Sam’s grandfather left him a landscaping business in Magnolia Sound. Sam does not want to stay in this town the rest of his life. Sam has kind of bad rap due to his past transgressions. He feels like someone in Magnolia Sound is always willing to remind him of his past. Sam is charming, funny and sexy. When Sam meets Shelby he feels an instant connection. Shelby is sweet and shy. With Sam Shelby feels sexy and confident. Sam falls for Shelby hard he thinks he is not good enough for her. Shelby thinks Sam is way out of her league. Sam is a good man smart and hard working. Her parents are a road block in their relationship. Shelby realizes she has to be brave and stand up to her parents because she loves Sam. This is a great addition to this series. Shelby goes to top of my favorite heroine list. I loved how Sam’s love made her brave and confident. I am very excited for Mason’s story.
I received a copy for review purposes.
Samantha Chase is the queen of sweet, small town, romance. Her books always leave me with a smile.
One thing I hate in a book is when a character starts out insecure and down on themselves and stays that way. If they continue to whine about it and not change I will not be happy. In a girl like you that was not the case. both of these characters made a big progression throughout the book. I loved it! Sam and Shelby needed each other to make grow into their best selves. Shelby went from wearing fake glasses to make her parents happy to standing up for herself and what she wants. Sam needed a little more of a kick in the butt to come around.
I adore the Magnolia Sound series and all of the characters. You won’t be disappointed in picking up A Girl Like You!
I’m in love with this small coastal town, Magnolia Sound. This is the second book in the series but can be read as a stand alone. Meet bad boy, Sam that is stuck in Magnolia Sound after inheriting his great grandpa’s landscaping business. Meet good girl, Shelby the town librarian, preacher’s daughter. They both want to be the opposite of what they are, but will it last more the year that Sam is here in Magnolia Sound.
Loved this story!! Loved how Shelby, became the person that she really always wanted to be and not afraid to stand up to her parents. Loved how Sam, finally found his happy place in Magnolia Sound. A wonderful romance that I could not put down. I still need real ice cream!! I highly recommend this book, can’t wait to read Mason’s story.
