Happy sigh… summer reading from Samantha Chase! Does it get any better?
I’m a sucker for an opposites attract story. And Samantha Chase nailed it with this one!
The perfect mix of sweetness and steam! LOVE LOVE LOVE Samantha Chase 🙂
Samantha Chase did it again with “A Girl like You” is the second full novel in her Magnolia Sound Series. Samantha Chase just keeps getting better with every book she writes. This book like the rest of her books had me hooked from the first page. This sweet, uplifting, fun book is one you don’t want to put down once you start reading. Even though this is the second book in the series it can very well be read as a standalone. You will want to go back and read the Prequel and first book once you read this book. This book has small town charm, romance and a love story that is heartwarming. It is very well written, has awesome well developed characters that you can identify with. This is a fabulous must read book. I can’t wait for the next installment.
Okay, so I think this might be my favorite Samantha Chase book so far. She created two people who are opposites like night and day on paper 😉 but fit together like a glove! And it was fabulous to read!
Let me start with Shelby … works in the library, conservative, and the pastor’s daughter.
Now Sam … well, all we really know going in to the story is that his history with the town is colorful LOL or better put would be troublemaker with attachment issues LOL
SO, opposites …. But are they really? HA! Shelby may look innocent but underneath there’s a woman who wants the passion and thrill a man like Sam can deliver! This was such a romantic story I can’t even stand it! Sexy and heartwarming and so much fun!
5 Star Review of A Girl Like You (Magnolia Sound #2) by Samantha Chase
I was intrigued by Sam Westbrook from the first time he appeared in the series. I knew that the woman who would finally tame the wild man would have to be unique and someone special; that is certainly Shelby Abbott. I also knew that there was so much more to him than his reputation.
When Sam is forced to move back to Magnolia Sound to meet the terms of his great grandfathers will, he is resentful. Particularly since it appears that the towns folk have not forgotten his juvenile hijinks.
Shelby is shocked when Sam pays her attention, after all she has always been a “good” girl.
I loved how Sam’s attention brings out Shelby’s inner strength, determination and how she blossoms. I also loved how all in Shelby was in her support of Sam.
Sam and Shelby are total opposites and yet they really do belong together.
Is Shelby the woman who can soothe the savage beast? Will she be able to handle a fling knowing that Sam’s time in Magnolia Sound is limited?
A Girl Like You is a spicy, romantic, love story that was heartwarming. I was so happy that they were able to navigate through all the issues they both had and get their happily ever after.
Although this can be read as a stand alone, I recommend that you also one click the other two books in the series as they are just as enjoyable.
4.25 stars–A GIRL LIKE YOU is the second instalment in Samantha Chase’s contemporary, adult MAGNOLIA SOUND romance series focusing on the Westbrook family of Magnolia Sound, North Carolina. This is town bad-boy and landscaper, and librarian / pastor’s daughter Shelby Abbott’s story line. A GIRL LIKE YOU can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Shelby and Sam) A GIRL LIKE YOU follows Sam Westbrook, in the aftermath of his great grandfather Ezekiel’s death, and the subsequent inheritance of Ezekiel Coleman’s landscaping business. When Hurricane Amelia destroyed a large portion of Magnolia Sound, Sam Westbrook found himself working diligently for the business, of which, he wanted nothing to do. A caveat of his great grandfather’s will forced our hero to remain in Magnolia Sound for one year otherwise he loses the business to his cousin Mason. Meeting Shelby Abbott found Sam focusing on a possible future in Magnolia Sound, but a future that began to crumble before it all began. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Shelby and Sam, and the potential fall-out as sins from the past try desperately to push Sam out of Shelby’s life.
Sam Westbrook no longer lived or worked in Magnolia Sound. A lifetime of sins, boyhood pranks, and teenaged misbehaving had not endured our hero to the people of Magnolia Sound. Memories ran deep, forgiveness came at a price, a price that would force Sam to walk away from the woman he loved. Shelby Abbott is the preacher’s daughter, and thusly she found herself oft-times focusing on the loneliness of doing good, all the time, Meeting Sam Westbrook stirred something deep within our story line heroine, something she hadn’t felt in a very long time.
The relationship between Sam and Shelby is one of immediate attraction but Sam doesn’t recognize our heroine the first time they meet. Believing she wasn’t worthy of Sam’s playboy reputation, Shelby once again begins to withdrawal into herself until she discovers that Sam’s attraction is a palpable as hers. The $ex scenes fade to black and are mostly implied.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Sam’s twin sister Mallory and her fiancé Jake (Remind Me #1); their cousin Mason Bishop; Sam and Mallory’s mother Susannah Coleman and her boyfriend Colton ; Shelby’s parents Steve and Caroline Abbott; her best friend and co-worker Laney as well as an assortment of small-minded townies who do not forgive or forget very easily.
A GIRL LIKE YOU is a story of condemnation and forgiveness; family and friendship; struggle, acceptance, and love. The premise is sweet and entertaining; the romance is charming and engaging; the characters are likable, colorful and energetic. A GIRL LIKE YOU is a delightful story readers are sure to enjoy.
I love the Westbrook family. They have a loving family that isn’t perfect. Each member has their quirk but they are open and accepting to each other and love with their whole hearts. They protect, stand up for, and push to make each other better without passing judgment.
In A Girl Like You the bad boy, Sam Westbrook, falls for the good girl, Shelby Abbott. He knows his reputation and he knows that it reflects on Shelby. He tries to show his good side, prove that he is a better person but struggles to let the gossip not overtake their relationship. It was amazing to see this bad boy step up, change his ways, and win the heart of Shelby.
This is book two of the Magnolia Sound book and the book can be read as a standalone but I did like that I knew why Sam was in Magnolia Sound and how the other characters play into his life.
Stephannie’s 5 Star Review:
I am a big fan of Meghan Quinn and her books. This book is a sports romance one of my favorite types of books. I have recently found her and love all her books. This book doesn’t disappoint. I loved it. I read this one pretty much cover to cover, ok I stopped and got a few hours of sleep but finished as soon as I woke up.
Knox Gentry is so swoon worthy, that I don’t know what to do with myself. I love him right away. He is such a great character. I love his interest in Emory and her lack of interest him. Ok, she really is just playing hard to get and unsure if she wants to be in any type of relationship. He feels something he has never felt before and he goes after it. He is determined to brake down Emory’s walls.
Emory is a sweet and cute bookworm wanting to be a librarian. I know right way too sweet for a bad boy baseball player like Knox. But oh does he find her attractive. The chemistry is so off the charts hot! I do want to smack Emory when she does something that breaks everyone’s hearts. I want to scream NO
But he also keeps something from her afraid it will make her run in the opposite direction and it causes a chain reaction that changes things. I don’t like this part of the story. It’s not my favorite because I am so heart broken by it. But can these two find a way to have the happily ever after that I want? Will she go to the locker room with him? Can Knox find his way back to Emory when she is too afraid to stay and fight for him?
I loved this story but I did have one part I didn’t like because it was heartbreaking and made me so sad. But I just kept reading and didn’t stop hoping for things to get resolved. I love these characters Knox and Emory need to be together or nothing is right with the world. I love this book. It gives you the feels.. Seriously one click it like now. Samantha Chase
Wonderful feel good story. Sam and Shelby each struggle with being accepted in very different ways. Sam really grabs your heart with his struggle to accept that he isn’t a screw up but a wonderful loving man who deserves happiness. Watching Shelby grow from always being the compliant daughter to someone who stands up and fights for what she wants makes you cheer her on. Great job Samantha
This a book with all the feels and I was captivated from the first chapter to the last page. Magnolia Sound feels like home it’s a place I can connect with and I love the residents and all the love and loyalty that surrounds them.
Sam Westbrook is only back in his hometown because of his grandfather’s will stipulation, he needs to run the landscaping business for a year and if after that he wants to move on then fine but for now he is living in his own worst nightmare because everyone in this small town seems to only see the wild child and not the man he has now become….
Shelby Abbott is the town librarian and daughter of pastor Steve and she is the girl that has never rebelled well unless you count having LASIK surgery against her families believe that it was a waste of money. Shelby and Sam meet in a bar and the attraction is instant but as much as she is attracted to him she believes the bad boy would not want to be with a good girl like her…..
I loved watching this couple get to know each other and seeing their relationship grow but love isn’t always easy especially when your reputation succeeds you and Sam needs to prove he has changed his way to win over the town folk of Magnolia Sound. This book has it all, characters with sizzling chemistry, secondary characters who have depth, I laughed, I sighed and I found myself wishing for a HEA for Sam and Shelby. Magnolia Sound is a great addition to this great series and I can’t wait to get Mason’s story which I believe is coming next.
The perfect summer afternoon read that left me hopeful and happy. Loved this highly entertaining, emotionally thrilling, heart pounding journey filled with seriously lovable charters. Loved this heartwarming love story that had me back in Magnolia Sound and looking forward to a visit back.
A Girl Like You is book two in the Magnolia Sound series. This story is one that hooked me from the start, and I couldn’t put it down. I loved Shelby and Sam’s story, and I can’t wait for the next in this series. I highly recommend it.
5 PERFECTION STARS!! What a perfect story for a summer day!! I loved Sam and Shelby story……good girl and a bad boy, what more can you ask for. Samantha Chase is fabulous storyteller with all the feels to keep you turning pages. This is one book you will want to 1-Click.
A Girl Like You by Samantha Chase once again finds us in the Magnolia Sound world. I have come to ADORE this series, the characters, and the stories!
Shelby is Sam’s complete opposite. A sweet, southern, preachers daughter, and Sam the ladies man, kinda bad boy. But these two together are EXPLOSIVE! I adored this story so much. I know when I read a Samantha Chase story I’ll get everything I want and more from it. A Girl Like You was so much Fun to read. It’s a bit sexy, and sweet, fun, yet seems realistic. A perfect summertime read!
Heartwarming & Charming! I am in Love with this series and have been since the beginning. Samantha Chase is an excellent writer with books that ooze heart felt goodness and she continues to capture my heart and soul a little more with each book in this series.
Sam Westbrook’s just can’t seem to shake his past reputation of being the bad boy, in the small town of Magnolia Sound. Forced to move there after he inherits a landscaping business from his Great Grandfather that stipulates he must stay for a year, was not what he had planned to do with his life. But although his business is thriving, and everyone is pleased with his work no one will let his past be forgotten. So to get away, from it all, him and his cousin Mason go to a bar in another town where he literally bumps into her!
Shelby Abbott is the shy, librarian and the pastor’s daughter in Magnolia Sound. Shelby has always been the good girl. So tired of her boring life, her friend and her go to a bar away from Magnolia Sound, where maybe she can leave her image behind and take a walk on the wild side. And then she bumps into him! For years she had heard all about him. But after talking, dancing and a kiss Shelby leaves Sam without so much as a phone number. Never imaging that he would want to contact her again.
Shelby is the complete opposite of what Sam is used to. Will he find her? Will the people of Magnolia Sound finally see the good guy in Sam? Or will he give up his business and leave? You will have to read this to find out. Don’t miss this series! Absolutely brilliant, beautiful, emotional and surprising, you will simply love Sam and Shelby’s journey.
A Girl Like You by Samantha Chase
5 Stars
Oh my!! Absolutely adored this second book in the Magnolia Series!! This is Sam and Shelbys story.
“A girl like you? No. But the girl you are? Hell yes. I knew you were someone amazing all along and I’m glad you’re finally realizing that about yourself.”
Highly recommend!! You will enjoy it as much as I did!!
A Girl Like You is Book 2 in the Magnolia Sound Series. It definitely can be a stand a lone but I highly recommend that you read them in order as I think you’ll get more appreciation from this series as a whole if you do. Plus it’s a great series.
Sam Westbrook inherited a landscaping business from his grandfather and his counting down the days until his year is up until he can sell it and leave Magnolia Sound. He’s tired of being under what he feels is the constant mistrustful eyes of the townspeople. Though he’s earned their distrust from his youth.
Shelby Abbott the town librarian and preacher’s daughter never thought she would catch the eye of Sam Westbrook. She was completely shocked when she went out with a girlfriend to a bar in a neighboring town and she had all his attention.
I just loved watch Shelby grow in this book and how she and Mason both made Sam realize that not all the townspeople did not see him the way that he thought they did. I also loved the way Shelby not only stood up for herself but for those she cared about. Love that girl! Sam came through when it mattered the most! I absolutely love these two together!
I can’t wait for Mason’s story. I have a feeling it’s going to be my favorite.
Sam and Shelby are adorable and I love their story. The romance is sweet, but what grabbed my attention is how they both have items that they are dealing with such as reputation and confidence. They also are a great couple for their strength and belief in each other. When Sam tells Shelby to stop talking about herself that way..just . The townspeople play an interesting role in this story and I love how it built into the small town and coastal vibes.
Magnolia Sounds is a captivating series about a small town that has gone through a high natural disaster and now we get to see how and who they rebuild with. Each book can be read as a stand alone, but I recommend reading in order so that more of the family and town dynamics shine through.
Another aspect of the story and of SC writing that I enjoy is how vivid her locations and characters are. Mason is present in all the stories for this series, but each book reveals another part of his personality and I can’t wait to read his story..the fireworks with him and his family have me excited
Thank you Samantha Chase for the chance to read this story and share my opinions!
Sam and Shelby were both great characters. Shelby is the pastor’s daughter and a librarian – she tends to stay within her bounds and follow through with exactly what’s expected of her. She won’t even tell her parents she got Lasik surgery knowing it would bring a lecture and wears non-prescription eyeglasses to not answer their questions. She wants to shake up her life but doesn’t know where to start – she’d like to start with Sam Westbrook but knows he is way out of her league, not to mention he has no idea who she is.
Sam. Oh Sam. I loved him. He’s stuck in this little town because of Zeke’s will for a year. He doesn’t want to be here, or anywhere near here, but not for the reasons people think. He wants the town to see him for who he his not who he was. Not that easy when he was a hell-raiser in his youth (even a few months ago) and the townsfolk have long memories. At the end of Jake and Mallory’s book, we got a sense that Jake knew Sam wasn’t going to be happy. I’m not sure anyone really understood why he was so unhappy – sure, they heard what he was saying but no one really experienced the whispers, the looks, that he did. It took some tough realizations before even Shelby could see how hard it was in town.
When they meet by chance out of town, Sam is completely smitten and blown away by this gorgeous girl – and then she runs. Shelby knew who he was but was enjoying pretending to be someone else for the evening – she knew Sam wouldn’t want her for who she was normally so she ran. When they finally run into each other again, Shelby is embarrassed (but realistic in her head) and after Sam’s anger/frustration fades, all he wants to do is get to know the girl that’s occupied his mind for the last two weeks. Sam quickly figured out it was going to take some convincing to get her to believe him.
As they got to know each other, they faced a lot of judgments. Shelby soon saw first hand that Sam wasn’t exactly exaggerating with feeling like he’d never atone for his wild youth. Not only did they havce to face the town but they each held doubts of self worth to work through. Do they figure it out or does reality ruin their newfound happiness? Read it – you won’t regret it. This was a fabulous addition to the series! And now that we’ve gotten to know Mason a bit more (I loved Mason and Sam’s relationship in this book), I cannot wait to read his story next!
