The first time Toby Hunter got arrested for defending Lilac Clarke’s honour, he was only fifteen years old, but he’d loved her from behind his black-rimmed glasses for as long as he could remember. With a desperate need to protect her from a distance, one arrest turned to two, two soon turning into three, and before Toby knew what was happening, the sleepy village of Southwold was turning against … turning against him for daring to stand up for a girl like Lilac.
Beautiful Lilac with her flowers in her hair, her camera in her hands, and her sweet, pink, sugary-lipped kisses.
They could hate him for loving her all they wanted. Toby was a boy who did what was right, not what was easy, and he was always going to grow to be the man willing to give her what she deserved.
Even if that meant losing Lilac forever.

This was such an amazing story. It was beautiful, addictive, and hit the spot perfectly. Lilac and Toby are a stunning couple. Toby has loved her since he was a little boy, but watching their relationship unfold was a true love story. Toby has had a few hardships where secrets have ruined his life, but with Lilac as his beacon of light he’s a strong individual that will always fight for a future with Lilac.
A definitely one click if you like YA romance.

A girl like Lilac by Victoria L James is a beautiful childhood friends to lovers that touched every piece of me in so many way. It’s emotional and heartbreaking but also gives hope and that well deserved happily ever after.
I couldn’t put it down once I started and I would only say that it’s a great love story that many readers will enjoy
MY HEART, THIS BOOK!!!! It’s rare that I read a love story and can find so many things I adore about both the leading characters but Toby and Lilac were both so special in their own ways and left an imprint on my heart. Their love was epic and all consuming and really just something that pulled me into the pages. I sobbed through my coffee this morning finishing A Girl Like Lilac yet here I am hours later still thinking about it and feeling emotional. In the endnote from the author she said “The only fairy tales to exist are fairy tales. Your life isn’t meant to be one. It’s meant to be a tragedy, a romance, and a comedy you survive, thrive, and remember” – No truer words could be spoken and could encompass the feeling behind this whole beautiful book. James didn’t shy away from the bruised and broken pieces of these characters or the unfairness that is the world we live in but rather she leaned into it evoking every single emotion within these pages.
2 1/2 stars. Waaaaaay to much drama for me.
