Verity Long doesn’t want to see ghosts, and she’d rather not let anyone know her little secret, either. But when a restless spirit stirs up trouble in her friend’s resale shop, Verity and her very new, very dead gangster friend team up to learn what is really happening. They discover an age-old secret and must learn the truth behind a mysterious disappearance…before it’s too late.
A Ghostly Gift is a short story in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries that takes places just after volume one.
Verity ends up helping her sisters friend who owns a second hand/antique store that is haunted. One of the ghosts is starting to get aggressive and break things.
Verity brings a reluctant Frankie along as she tries to pieces the pieces together. It’s a very sad and heartwarming love story. It’s a sweet edition with all the charm of the larger novels. It’s well developed and paced.
Audio: Tavia Gilbert is a fantastic narrator. She brings out the cast of characters and that small southern town feel.
A Ghostly Gift was a delight. I had fun with this novella. It was a delicious treat to the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series. I highly recommend this paranormal cozy mysteries series.
Rated: 4 Stars
I wanted to listen to a short story and I had this on my Audible Library. The was a nice cozy mystery to finish the evening while I got ready for bed.
This is another great book by Angie. Short, quick but, amazing and Tavi is my new favorite narrator.
Even though this book is a novella, it does an excellent job of captivating the reader from the first page.
Since it is such a short book, a lot of backstory isn’t provided, but there is definitely enough to feel grounded. We find out that Verity, the main character, is a reluctant ghost hunter that appears to have happened into this position by accidentally dumping the ashes of Frankie, a former thug whose urn was left in her house, in her rosebush. So now, his ghost lives with her and has the power to lift the veil and allow Verity to see the supernatural. They have a banter that will probably play out more in the series, but enough transpires in this book to get the reader hooked. Verity has a good sense of humor, and she also has some layers and complexity, which is hopefully explored in the series, as well.
The story has an engaging plot and does just enough to leave the reader wanting more. Verity is asked by her sister to help a friend with a ghost problem she’s having at her store. Verity’s job is to research and problem-solve to help a ghost solider find his true love before she dies and crosses over without him. The interaction between the various spirits and Verity is fun and, at the same time, emotional.
If you’re looking for a short story to grab your attention and leave you feeling satisfied, but looking forward to the next tale, then A Ghostly Gift would be a good choice.
This is the next story in the wonderful Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series. In this edition, Verity is hired by the owner of a local resale shop because strange things have started happening with the store. The store owner can’t pay in cash, but offers Verity a dining set for her empty house. Agreeing to the deal, Verity and her ghostly partner Frankie swoop in that evening and discover that the resale shop had been a bar back in the day and is inhabited by a number of spirits that usually don’t bother anything. Now though, one of the spirits is devastated when he finds the engagement ring he gave his fiancée before leaving for World War II is now sitting in a display case. He can’t find his fiancée and asks for Verity’s help to find out what happened to her.
With her sister Melody’s help with research, Verity finds the ghosts’ fiancée and learns a long-hidden secret.
This is such a cute short story, one that further develops Verity and Frankie’s characters and introduces you more to Verity’s sister Melody, who does show up in other books in the series. I love the writing, the characters, the story arc, and the setting, and can’t wait to read the next installment.
love all her ghost books
A Ghostly Gift is a novella in the Southern Ghost Hunter mysteries. Verity Long is a reluctant ghost hunter but when a friend of her sister’s offers her free furniture as a fee for solving the little ‘haunting’ problem in her shop, considering all she has is a futon to her name what else is a girl going to say but yes.
There really isn’t much of mystery to this book. It’s more a sad, sweet story of true love spanning 70 years but ultimately with a happy ending that left me with a small lump in my throat. A fantastic addition to the series.
When Verity Long’s sister, Melody, asks her to help an old school friend with a ghostly problem, she accepts even though Frankie (her ghostly partner) would rather give it a pass. The friend, Julie, can’t afford to pay them but as the owner of a second-hand store, she offers to trade Verity a much-needed kitchen set for her assistance in stopping a poltergeist from wrecking her business. Rather than an angry spirit, the poltergeist in the “New For You” store is that of a heartbroken soldier from WW2 who is trying to reconnect with his one true love.
This was a sweet, poignant mystery for Verity to unravel along with some of the ghostly others around Sugarland, Tennessee. A very satisfying novella to tide the reader over between books one and two in the “Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries” series.
Great as usual, thoroughly enjoyed it!

A fun short story with Verity (graphic design and unexpected ghost whisperer), her little pet skunk, Frank (ghostly gangster of prohibition era), and a cast of many. Verity is dead broke and an outcast in her town for angering the most influential family there. But the owner of the local second-hand shop needs help with a destructive force which has recently been causing havoc. Verity meets more ghosts (with Frank’s reluctant help), and embarks on solving the mystery.
Added the Audio, and Tavia Gilbert is great!
An awesome author. I love this series.
As always thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining.
