They say the dead don’t speak. That’s a lie. They speak to Kat Justice, but most of the time, she chooses not to hear them.I’m a Nightwatch agent, a nightblood charged with enforcing the supernatural laws. Humans can’t know the shit that goes bump in the night is real. It’s sweaty, tough work, with crappy pay, but I love it.Things would be perfect if not for my secret.Pureblood Nightbloods can’t … would be perfect if not for my secret.
Pureblood Nightbloods can’t see or hear the dead. The fact that I can exposes my mixed breeding. I’m not meant to exist, and if the council find out about my secret it’s the executioners block for me.
Keeping a lid on my ghost whisperer ability is a must.
So, when my gramps orders me to head to the arse end of nowhere, a nowhere that just happens to be the most haunted place on the bloody map, I’m a little confused.
This transfer doesn’t jive with trying to keep the ghost chat to a minimum.
But with my golem partner and gargoyle companion in tow, I’m sure I can figure out why I’ve been sent to this weird coastal town. I mean, they even have a ghost bar.
You’d think the local souls would be eager to chew my ear off, right? Wrong.
For the first time in forever, the dead aren’t talking.
Now I need to know why…
A kick ass Urban Fantasy Adventure filled with fey, demons, vampires, gargoyles and golems.

This was such a great book!! I love Kat and cannot wait to find out more about what she is. I also can’t wait to learn more about each of the characters in this book. They all seem to have an air of mystery about them that leaves you wanting to learn more. Can’t wait for book 2!
A lively urban fantasy read
Kat, a Nightblood with a secret, is sent off to an unknown post at the request of her grandfather who is the leader of Nightwatch, a supernatural police force. As the story progresses a deeper mystery is afoot, a new perspective is gained, and releasing the tight hold on her secrets could be part of the solution to the problems she is facing. Debbi Cassidy’s A Ghost of a Chance is a lively urban fantasy read featuring a quirky yet lovable cast of characters. This book does end in a cliffhanger, so reader beware.
Holy moly! What an amazing book! So many elements, so many layers! Kat is an amazing Nightblood with some VERY intriguing abilities! I am seriously looking forward to finding out more about her!
This was a great read. Something new and different. Now I need to know what happens next. I need to know what the secrets are that are being kept. I need to know the link between kat and shimmer man and if her mom ends up waking from the coma.
This is the first book in the Nightwatch series by Debbie Cassidy and it was amazing! It’s a fast paced easy read that hooked me from the beginning. The book has a great story, is action packed, sexy, and is full of awesome characters. An excellent read I highly recommend it!

With a blurb saying “ A kick ass Urban Fantasy Adventure filled with fey, demons, vampires, gargoyles and golems“ I could not wait to get stuck in and I have to say I could not put this down! It’s well written and fast paced with twists and turns and full of secrets, mystery and suspense and great characters with a fab kick ass heroine and I cannot wait to read the next book!
Another amazing story from Debbie Cassidy. This story starts out strong and draws you in and won’t let you go. The characters are all amazing and so well written that you want to know more about each and every one of them. The mystery surrounding the town and what is happening with each person makes you want to know more. I eagerly await the next book
A Ghost of a Chance is the new UF spin-off of The Nightwatch Academy series and features Indigo’s cousin, Kat Justice, a Nightblood with something more, who is a Nightwatch agent and enforcer of the supernatural laws, her gargoyle motherly-type protector Tris who loves trashy romance novels and Henri, her golem partner who is her added muscle in a fight and her eyes and ears during the daylight hours.
If you have read The Nightwatch Academy books, to date, then you will be privy to the different worlds, factions, and all the creatures that go bump in the night that cross over into this spin-off series, as well. If you have not, no worries, Cassidy does her normally fab job of filling in the gaps with the necessary background information to keep you informed. Suffice it to say, that if you enjoy straight up UF, with kick-a** women, snarky and witty banter, continual suspense, a good mystery, lots of action, and yummy hotties thrust into unknown dangerous and deadly situations then you are gonna fit right in with this book.
At the behest of Kat’s grandfather she, Henri, and Tris sneak out in the night and leave their posh-ish position at Ravensheart prison and head off to the ends of the earth, as Kat puts it, to a place they have never heard of called Scortchwood prison for reasons also unknown to them. Upon arrival, confusion and even more questions arise as they meet the leader and team that reside within Scortchwood. This place and its’ inhabitants hold many secrets as Kat and her companions come to realize as they join the ranks. Aside from the ghostly inhabitants running amok, there are several missing persons’ cases to solve. And speaking of secrets, Kat has a huge one of her own. Her mixed breeding has been kept a secret since her childhood along with the fact she can see, hear, and speak to the dead. If she is ever found out, it will mean her death as well as the threat of harm to those she loves. Kat has a lot of questions and is determined to find the answers while doing what she does best – kick a** and protect both the human and supernatural worlds from colliding.
Ghost of a Chance is a fantastic, fast-paced UF story with a mysterious, suspenseful vibe flowing throughout the read. The book will enthrall and engage you from the start and keep you wrapped up in the mystery and secrets fluttering around among the characters. This story sets up the start of the series nicely and shows the beginning of friendships, emotional twists and turns, sexual tension, glimpses of romantic interests, and the baseline for the many characters’ developments. There seem to be many layers to all these guys and I cannot wait to see what unfolds along the way. I am completely hooked on this new series!
*I received an ARC of this book from the author and I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
It did not take me long to become completely engrossed in this new series starter. I am a fan of the author’s and this new one is her foray back into straight urban fantasy, and I’m so glad. I read RH, but straight up UF is my favorite. Anyway, back to this book. Kat is a Nightblood, but she’s a special case: not a pureblood. She must keep it a secret, however, as she’ll be killed if found out. Unfortunately, she may have to give up her secret at her new posting as there’s much more going on that she should be able to see, and if she’s to save the lives of 12 kidnapped humans, she may have to come out. I loved this book from start to finish. Well-written, great storyline, and amazing characters. I didn’t even know who was the villain until the end; I had no idea. I highly recommend this book! I was provided a copy, and I voluntarily reviewed it.
This is Debbie Cassidy’s long awaited venture back into straight up Urban Fantasy and I must say it doesn’t disappoint. Set in the same world as her Shadow Weaver series this storey follows Indigo’s Cousin Kat Justice with her small Gargoyle protector Triss ( who loves everything cock) and Bodyguard Henri.
The book has a really good storey line – different to most other UF stories and is very entertaining full of action, intrigue and mystery.
There are also some other wonderful characters whom I think will grow as further books are released.
There are one liners and innuendos that again will probably continue and hopefully ramp up in later books as they add some dark, dirty and sarcastic humour as an example Triss loves and is a connoisseur of everything Cock.
The characters in Debbie’s books are normally in their 20’s and older so I don’t think the series I don’t think would be suitable for a young teen but definitely for a young adult as I know Debbie will bring in some sex and heat as the series develops although it will most likely be in moderation when compared to her RH books.
Another amazing book from Debbie Cassidy a long with another bad a** Justice woman. Kat Justice is a strong female lead just like her cousin Indigo Justice from the NightWatch Academy series! The book is set in the same world as Shadow Caster and the new characters are just as lovable as the other characters that Debbie has brought us. A must read book!
