Miss Sarah Crosby knows she is already considered a spinster. Sent to London in order to take care of her aunt and help her cousin to make her debut, she has no hope for her own future. It is only when Miss Bavidge introduces her to Lady Smithton that she finally starts to believe that she might be able to have a life of her own.Unfortunately, most of her time is taken up accompanying her cousin, … up accompanying her cousin, Miss Sophia Marks. Much to her shame, Sarah finds herself becoming greatly interested in one of her cousin’s suitors, Lord Daniel Ruddington. He is quiet and retiring, barely smiles and seems to carry a great weight on his shoulders but she is still drawn to him.
Lord Daniel Ruddington has no-one he can turn to.
Pretending that he is nothing more than a gentleman enjoying London society, he hides a great secret and a furious anger within his heart as he attempts to further his acquaintance with Miss Sophia Marks. However, his gaze is so often drawn to her companion, her quiet, kind nature contrasting with his determination for revenge.
Will he be able to take his revenge? Or will Miss Crosby be the one to stop him?
This book is the third book of a series called The Spinsters Guild, a group of unusual ladies who are almost “on the shelf”. Can Lady Emily help them find their perfect match?

Another great book by Rose Pearson! Love this book and the series “The Spinsters Guild”! This is book number 3 and if you haven’t read the other two I suggest you do, you will be so happy you did and will understand this book better too. Wonderful characters and lots of twist and turns to intrigue you, you will want to keep reading long into the night. Can not wait for the next one! Highly recommend the series!

Miss Sarah Crosby is considered to be on the shelf. She is tasked with chaperoning her cousin Miss Sophie Marks who is in her first season. Miss Marks makes it known to everyone Miss Crosby is a relation and makes it seem she is an”poor relation” and is acting as her chaperone because of this. Nothing could be further from the truth. Sarah is equal to Sophie but she still doesn’t believe in herself. She meets Lord Daniel Ruddington who she seems to hit it off with until he finds out she is Miss Marks cousin and asks for an introduction. As she is thrown into impossible situations with Sophie and Daniel she continues to have feeling for Daniel but he spurns her for her cousin. He asks to court Sophie and is given her father’s blessing. As sparks continue to fly between Sarah and Daniel her friend Mrs Smithton encourages Sarah to fight for Daniel. Ultimately they end up at a ball where Daniel and Sophie disappear. Will this be the end of Daniel and Sarah or will he come to his senses in time?
This is a continuation of her Spinster series, this time with Miss Crosby finding a husband. Lady Smithton does a great deal of butting in to help move things along as soon as she realizes who Miss Crosby has her eyes on. There is some drama surrounding him and why he seems more interested in her cousin, Miss Marks. It’s a great read that keeps your attention as all of Pearson’s books do and is great for a rainy day.
I enjoyed this Spinsters Guild romance that kept me entertained and intrigued from beginning to end with great characters and a well-written story I couldn’t put down. I enjoyed the dynamic and undeniable chemistry between Miss Sarah Crosby who takes care of her aunt and helps her cousin make her debut and Viscount Daniel Ruddington who is out for revenge from Lord Britton. This is a wonderful third book in the Spinsters Guild series and I look forward to finding out what happens next in Lady Smithton’s group. I received an advance reader copy of this book from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
I felt so sorry for our main female lead Miss Sarah Crosby. Her spirit has been crushed, her self-confidence was nil and all because her father never believed in her being able to secure a match. Because of the way her father treated her, she felt invisible, unworthy and unlovable. Her father arranged for her to become a companion to a distant relative’s daughter who was a cousin. While in London she met Miss Bavidge and became good friends. Miss Bavidge introduced her to Lady Smithton who created the “Spinster’s Guild”. Lady Smithton took on young ladies like Sarah and did all she could to turn their lives around, to be more confident and help them secure a match. Sarah had a hard time believing anything Lady Smithton told her. But thank goodness she went along with whatever Lady Smithton said. At a ball attending to her cousin, she bumped into Lord Daniel Ruddington who was a Viscount. There was a connection between them immediately but then Daniel changed directions and wanted to be introduced to her cousin, Miss Marks. Sarah’s hopes were dashed. She thought of course she was too plain hardly pretty and her cousin was beautiful and vivacious. How could he be attracted to her. Daniel made it his mission to get close to Miss Marks and dismiss what he felt for Sarah. Over time when Daniel was calling upon Miss Marks, he would see Sarah and their attraction towards each other became more pronounced. What Sarah could not understand was if there was a sliver of a chance of happiness between them what was he doing pursuing her cousin? A mystery developed and Sarah became very aware of Daniel’s lack of attentiveness towards Miss Marks while with her it was the opposite. She knew he was a good man a gentleman through and through and yet she began to doubt his intentions towards her cousin and could not help but feel perhaps he was not as he seemed. Daniel began to speak cryptically to Sarah and she became confused. She really felt something was not right between her cousin and Daniel. Will Sarah figure out what was going on with Daniel or would she lose her heart because he chose her cousin. A real mystery indeed. This is a good read. A sob story but with a happy ending. At the conclusion of the story I wondered how Sarah’s cousin’s family would react. The story did not go beyond the happy ending that I felt was cut short. Otherwise I enjoyed reading this very much.
Miss Sarah Crosby is already considered a spinster and has little to no hope of finding a husband now. Instead, she comes to London to care for her aunt and be a companion to her cousin, Sophia Marks, during her first season. At the ball, she meets Lord Daniel Ruddington and both of them are attracted to the other. Sarah’s own feeling of unworthiness, and her smaller dowry, keep her from even hoping anything could come of wanting Daniel.
As for Daniel, his motives are not so loving. He has a long-time grudge against Sophia’s father, Lord Barton, and hopes to woo the young lady and ruin her. Fortunately, Daniel’s conscience is making it difficult for him to carry through with his plans, especially as Sarah has attracted his attention and gives him hope for something better. What will he decide to do? Is revenge worth it at the risk of love and a future? Or can he let go of the hatred and allow a relationship with Sarah to heal his heart? He can’t have both outcomes – is he wise enough to make the right choice?
This is another wonderful book by an author who knows how to touch our hearts. Always a great story line, this one is no exception. The pacing is perfect, and the characters are intriguing – not always the ones we love, but definitely described to make an impression! Grab your copy and enjoy a well-told story to see if two people can find their HEA by making the choice that is right for them.
This is the third book in the “The Spinsters Guild” series, but could read as standalone…

The third boo from the Spinster’s Guild, this time Sarah Crosby hopes to find love with the help of her friend LadySmithton. Lord Ruddington is out for revenge on the Britton family and he plans on getting his revenge by courting Sophia Britton cousin to Sarah. Sarah comes from a titled family the same as Sophia but is treated as a companion rather than a young lady having a season instead she must watch over her very flirty cousin who at times forgets society rules. Is it Sarah who meets Ruddington first and is taken by him then realizes he only used her to meet Sophia. Mrs. Smithton guesses that Sarah is attracted to Ruddington and convinces her that she has as much right to attract the gentleman as does Sophia. so with a little makeover and a large boost to her confidence, Sarah gives it her best and believes she sees a mutual feeling in his eyes but why is he still calling on her cousin. When he goes to Lord Britton and ask for permission to formally court Sophia, Sarah is broken-hearted but remembering she is worth as much as Sophia she tells Ruddington she believes his feelings for her are the same as hers for him. When he admits he has no feelings for her cousin but this is something he must do, Sarah is confused and sad maybe he was not the gentleman she thought. I hope you read this book to find out why Ruddington really wishes to marry Sophia and what his feelings for Sarah really are.

The Sour Taste of Revenge
I love how Lord Haversham dances merrily to Lady Smithton’s tune. I just can’t wait until Lord Haversham finally proves himself worthy. But not too soon because the road leading there is so delightful. The story line of the Spinster Guild is wonderful. This is Miss Crosby’s story who has fallen in love with Viscount Ruddington who seems to be interested in courting Miss Marks. Miss Crosby although they are of the same station is a companion to her childish self absorbed cousin Miss Marks. Ruddington is so hell bent on revenge against Miss Marks family that he is temporarily blinded to what is right in front of him. Thankfully he realizes his love for Miss Crosby is greater than his need for revenge. I only wish Lord Britton or his son could have suffered misfortune somewhere, somehow during the storyline maybe the son sent to the colonies or some such for there actions against Mrs. Laurencekirk. I can’t wait to read the next installment and see which Spinster Lady Smithton bestows her favor upon.

Third book in this series and it didn’t disappoint. Miss Sarah Crosby was sent to London by her father for the season but is relegated to care for her Aunt and cousin Sophia Marsh. It’s not until Miss Bavidge introduces her to Lady Smithton, does she feel like she may have a chance for a bright future and not one as a spinster. Enter Lord Daniel Ruddington. He comes seeking revenge on the Marsh family but seems to be quite taken with Sarah. Will he be able to go forward with his revenge or will his heart get in the way. Can Sarah allow herself to hope for a bright future? The characters are wonderfully written and the story line is great. You don’t need to read the first two books, although it does help with some of the character identification. A must have for your TBR.

This one was my favorite.
When a wrong has been committed but no honorable action taken what is a gentleman to do is revenge really the answer. That is the question answered in this story. Anger drove this character, but in the end, love is what brought him peace and love is what has given her hope. It was a really good story and not till the end is there an ending a reader would like. I enjoyed the book Ms. Pearson is an excellent writer and of the three books of this series I have read, I think this one was my favorite. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Another great book in a great series. I’m really enjoying these books. They seem to just keep getting better. I loved Sarah and Ruddington’s story and all the characters. I’m anxious for more books in the series.

I normally enjoy Ms. Pearson’s books, however, with this one I just couldn’t get into the story. I don’t know if it was just me or if it was the actual story. I will reread it and possibly change my mind on this.

Sarah Crosby is staying with distant relatives & acting as chaperone to Sophia Marks. Sarah visits Lady Smithton’s house with her friend Emma Bavidge & Lady Smithton agrees to help Sarah find a husband. Daniel Viscount Ruddington is on a mission, to catch the eye of Miss Marks, he’s so eager to get to her that he bumps into another young lady, Sarah. Whilst helping her to her feet he discovers her relationship to his quarry. Sarah introduces Daniel & Sophia, Daniel secures two dances with Sophia & is shamed by Lady Smithton into also asking Sarah for two dances but he does not appear for the second dance. Daniel & Sarah bump into each other again at a modiste’s shop & he fails to remember her.
Another well written book which flowed well & I read it in a sitting. The characters have depth. I liked put upon Sarah from the start & wanted her to find someone who loved her. I also liked how she gained confidence throughout the book. I thoroughly disliked Daniel at the beginning, standing someone up for a dance – black mark. Failing to remember Sarah – larger black mark. I did wonder if he’d be able to redeem himself once his motives were revealed to find out if he did then you’ll have to read this lovely book
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
ONE ROCKIN ADVENTURE!!!
Hit and miss! Lady Rose weaves a tangled web until we’re cacooned so thoroughly riding a razors edge. Throw in all the perplexing situations that keeps your full attention on this page turning dynamo. The tension is thick, deceit plentiful, lies abundant, determination is staggering. Hurdling the trials and tribulations, along with a few twists and turns fuses this baby together sleek, shiny and tight. The realism and authenticity of the characters as their on point personalities blend and connect along with the graphically detailed scenes that thrust this little jewel together smooth as silk. Fantastic job Rose, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
The story is a wonderful way to relax and take a journey to another time. To follow along and see how a couple come to terms with their situation and marry. It has some twists and turns along the way, that only add to keep you turning pages.
The Spinster’s Guild has another winner! It was interesting to watch Miss Crosby move from being a mouse….well, don’t want to give it away too much. Let’s just say that there’s a lion inside the mouse. I enjoyed how the author develops this character as a woman. She is honest and brave. She became my heroine! The same supporting cast was in place and, as always, they were marvelous. Although this can be read as a standalone, it was fun to see the same characters from prior books in the series. The classic Regency society issues were present, of course, and it was fun to watch the principals work their way through that maze. This is a great rainy Saturday read. Rose Pearson comes through again!
The surprise was……
I eagerly awaited hints throughout the story as to Lord Ruddingers plan, slightly disappointed by lack thereof. Maybe I missed something along the way?
I did guess correctly on who Mrs. Laurenkicks was and the part she played.
Sarah is a brave young lady, so glad she found the courage to finally speak up for herself. I hope Miss Marks grows up sooner rather than later.
And I loved hearing more about Lady Smithton and Lord Havisham.
I did find a few incorrect names used, in 3 different section of book.
Will He or Won’t He Seek His Revenge
Although Miss Sarah Crosby is of the same rank as her cousin, but in the eyes of society she is but a companion. Still, she dreams of finding a kind and honorable gentleman to share the remainder of her days.
Although determined to seek revenge upon Lord Barton’s family, Lord Ruddington’s conscience seems set on stopping him. It has been intruding on his plans, and even more so since meeting Miss Crosby.
A Gentleman’s Revenge by Rose Pearson is both a well written and descriptive Regency romance. As part of The Spinster’s Guild series, it is Miss Crosby’s turn to find her happily-ever-after. All of the characters are well developed, including the supporting characters. As with the prior books in this series, Lady Smithton continues her role as mentor to the spinsters who have come to her for assistance in finding love and happiness.
Content: This romantic tale is a stand-alone quick read that is 100% clean and sweet.
