Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.
Brimming with humor, a glittering cast of characters, and one beautifully rendered scene after another, this singular novel casts a spell as it relates the count’s endeavor to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be a man of purpose.

It is one of the best books I have ever read. And I would never have picked it to read from the descriptions . I never thought I would be interested in a story about a man who is under house arrest in a hotel in Moscow his whole adult life. But I was hooked on the story right from the start. .I am so very glad our Book Club chose it. Don’t miss this one.
The most interesting Novel that I have had the pleasure of reading for quite a while and I have over 600 Ebooks in my library
This was one of the most enjoyable books I’ve read in at least a couple of years. I’ve reviewed it elsewhere and am pressed for time today, but want to take a minute to recommend it wholeheartedly to readers everywhere.

A beautiful dream of a book
What would you do if you were a wealthy aristocrat who was used to an advantaged lifestyle in a luxury hotel? You were never a cruel snob. In fact, you had been kind and generous to those less fortunate than yourself. However, one day a new regime comes to power and decides that you are to be “punished” for having been “privileged.” You are marched up into a little attic room that has been used for storage and told that is to be your new quarters. Furthermore, from now on you are confined to the property of the Metropole Hotel. How are you going to cope? Read how the protagonist in this second novel by Amor Towles manages to do just that!
One of my top five favorite books and I’ve read a lot of books. A modern day classic.
Excellent, a book I recommend for everyone. You’ll learn a lot and be involved in this story, too.
Enjoyable story. Amazing use of language.
