“Your pleasure is my pleasure, Miss Fairhurst.” Sir Ragnor Withersby to Miss Judith Fairhurst, in a cupboard, the British Museum, London 1817A skill at cards is not usually part of a young lady’s repertoire. An astounding skill at piquet? Unheard of. Yet here’s Miss Judith Fairhurst, a natural at the game, facing renowned expert Sir Ragnor Withersby across the table—and thoroughly defeating him. … table—and thoroughly defeating him.
Their first hand arouses his interest, their first kiss arouses a lot more, and elegant man-about-town Sir Ragnor is about to find out what it’s like to tumble headfirst off a dangerous cliff into unknown waters. There will be gambling, of course. Potential scandals, cheats and revelations will abound. There will be new friends, sculptures, a strange decanter of brandy and a very nice bottom. Perhaps Fate has set their feet on a path to pleasure, but not all their steps will be smooth. Some games must be very carefully played…

Light-hearted and positive. I loved this storyline and everything the characters brought to the story. A very unique historical and I look forward to reading more.
Regency romance at its delightful best.
With her family’s checkered past, Miss Judith Fairhurst’s was more than pleased to be under Sir Laurence and Lady Maud’s protection and tutelage while in London. She certainly had much to learn, but she held little hope of making any kind of real connections until the first evening of the Wednesday Club.
With his air of supreme confidence, Sir Ragnor Withersby has his London world by it’s proverbial tail. Yet he still has much to learn. He just has yet to figure out that small detail. His unplanned education has its beginning when he happens to accompany his friend to Sydenham House for an evening called the Wednesday Club.
As a first time reader of author Sahara Kelly, I was overjoyed to find such a literary gem in A Gentleman for Judith. Smoothly and masterfully written with rich and vibrant characters, this amusing and entertaining Regency romance kept me turning pages and chuckling. In addition to a well constructed plot, the dialogue was cheerfully crisp and original. Last, but not least, the ending is very happy with an epilogue to extend this reader’s pleasure.
Content alert: Although I loved this book, it did contain a moderate amount (68 uses) of swearing (d*mn, h*ll, g*d). There is also some very passionate kissing a descriptive petting scene. Hence, this book carries a PG-13 rating.

A triumphant first in series
This is a beautifully written triumphant first book in what promises to be an enjoyable series. The plot is one of mystery and emotional twists and turns, with wonderfully crafted characters and a heroin that has the courage and determination to stand by her convictions. This spicy historical romance will be suitable for anybody who loves this genre.
Frankly, I almost skipped this book offer. The author is new to me and the book cover just seemed to bland for my taste. But you know the saying “Don’t Judge A Book By Its Cover!”. That is certainly true here. “A Gentleman for Judith” has everything an avid historical romance reader, such as myself, wants. First there is the sweet heroine, Judith, a country orphan, somewhat adrift in London. There are her loving, fun, sponsors to London society, who want nothing more than to make Judith’s first season in London a pleasant memorable experience! Finally, there is the handsome rake, and his friends, who have no intention of falling love. There is also a little suspense and mystery that adds just a touch of danger to the romance. I would have enjoyed just a touch more illicit love scenes but knot so much as to overwhelm the story. All in all I found the book very enjoyable, easy read for a rainy day. Just right for a cuddle up on the sofa with your favorite blanket, your cup of tea in front of the fireplace. I will be finishing the series as soon as I clear some books out of my library in Kindle. (Oh so many books! So little time)
I was tempted to stop reading. I did finish and it is ok, but I did not find it very memorable.
Enjoyed!!!
This delightful story is full of surprises and it is evident that Judith is not an Almack’s girl, thus the Wednesday Club. Sir Ragnor Withersby will not know what will hit him when he meets soft spoken Judith. He thinks Judith will be biddable, but he is going to have to rethink that assessment.
I love reading Regency romance novels and I am always looking for a new spin on this genre. This book is different and very enjoyable.
Judith Fairhurst is a young woman who has a wicked skill at playing cards, particularly Piquet. When her benefactors decide to start hosting a Wednesday Club for those who aren’t fortunate enough to be invited to Almack’s, Judith’s skill comes into play with Sir Ragnor Withersby. It isn’t really proper for a young woman to be so adept at cards, but Judith started playing at her Mother’s knee at a very young age.
This book has all the elements that I have come to love and expect from a Regency novel, including one steamy sex scene, an arrogant man of interest, plenty of misunderstandings and descriptions of the fashions and entertainments of the day.
But, it also introduces a very different realm of Society, a very risqué gambling house, a lot of humor and wonderful characters. Of course, it also has the HEA that I have come to expect, even though there are plenty of roadblocks along the way.
The author does a wonderful job with her descriptions of the era, her character development and loads of wonderful dialogue. I was given the chance to read this book and chose to review it.
Lighthearted and witty, I enjoyed this historical romance with an unusual plot and setting. I also love the cover of the book, which gives a feeling of classical romance. Most young ladies enjoying their first London season aspire to receiving vouchers for the famous Almacks. However, attendees are only admitted at the whim of the patronesses. There are many others who also need marriage partners and thus the Fairhurst Wednesday Club is born. I loved the characters in this book, including the observant and grumpy butler who had obviously been with the family so long that he had earned the right to voice his opinion. Judith is strong-willed with an unusual mind and wins the attention of Sir Ragnor, who in spite of himself , finds his emotions becoming involved. The rake is toppled on more than one front and the young girl from the country has upended him in ways he never thought possible. Wise elders bring a delightful rounding off to this book and the group of young friends gives the story amusing insights into the era. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. The first book in the Wednesday Club series and I want to read the next book. A well written regency story that once I started reading I was not putting down. This is Sir Ragnor Withersby and Miss Judith Fairhurst’s story. I liked that she was not a young woman who would not be put off going after doing things she wanted to do just because she was a woman. I recommend this book.
A Gentleman for Judith
by Sahara Kelly
This was a very entertaining read, I truly enjoyed Judith Fairhurst and Sir Ragnor Withersby’s journey in finding love. Judith didn’t look anything like a woman that’s jaded, she looked more of a country miss. She was not only beautiful but excelled in the art of cards. She definitely had Ragnor eating out of her palm!
This was a pleasurable story that I truly enjoyed and will be reading the next one!

This was such a joy & pleasure to read. Hobson deserves an honorable mention because he is just hilarious. Judith is bold, smart and straightforward, love that. The gentlemen is bowled over and beside himself, to say the least and I would say at first sight even, of course he is stubborn though. I thoroughly enjoyed every single page of their challenging adventure from their getting to know one another to their happily ever after. Also love the adventures of the Wednesday Club and think that this is a excellent start to the series. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author.
Certainly, “the appearances are deceiving” and the country girl, Miss Judith Fairhurst, had her thing and well hidden. Not enough knowledge about passion? She would give Withersby a run for his money. What a witty, smart, strong and passionate girl! She knew how to handle her cards well and win the games, pun intended. Loved her character that made me chuckle with the way she cornered Rag. He had to learn the way a woman thinks. Liked the drama, the mystery, the interesting plot development, the passion and Judith’s merry Misses gang. Good beginning for this new series that I’m going to follow eagerly.
Just looking at the cover for this book tells you it will be different from most romances you see these days and it is different. It is kind of an old-fashioned romance with a twist that was very entertaining to read. Both Ragnor and Judith are engaging, funny and well-rounded people. Their story was interesting and has a couple of out of the norm scenarios. It is a refreshing story. I look forward to others in this series.
