“A holiday romance that is perfect for the season.” – USA TodayA breakup before Christmas is the worst. Especially when I was thinking THIS was going to be the year I get a ring. What’s a girl to do?Get to your best girlfriend, drink wine, eat ice cream, and do some good old-fashioned man bashing for starters. But my plans go up in smoke when it’s not my best girlfriend who comes to pick me up … smoke when it’s not my best girlfriend who comes to pick me up from the airport, but instead my childhood best friend.
Jax was my other half. The only other man I’ve loved. The one I could have a whole conversation with just one glance. Probably still could, if I could stand to look into his killer blue eyes long enough.
He’s the last person I want to share my heartbreak with. He broke my heart a long time ago.
I’ve always been on Santa’s nice list. That’s who I am. So I’ll smile, drink, be merry, and try to ignore Jax looking at me like I’m his Christmas gift.
A man is not on my Christmas list — gentleman or not.

A heartwarming second chance, reunion of sorts, friends to lovers, forbidden love story. I adored Jax and Skylar’s romance and Jax was the ultimate swoony hero!
Christmas is my favourite time of year and I adore Christmas Romances and I have to say A Gentleman for Christmas is my favourite Christmas story of 2018, Prescott Lane gave me everything I wanted and more in this sweet true love story centered around a group of friends.
Jax makes a living by his published book of rules, he writes the rules and he lives his life by the rules but the rule book is about to go out the window when his best friend Skylar ends up spending Christmas under the same roof as him. Skylar has just broken up with her boyfriend who also happens to be a friend of Jax’s, will this couple be able to resist the instant attraction and the sizzling chemistry when they are alone under the same roof and will hearts be broken if they cross the line of friendship …….
This book is about love, friendships, forgiveness and bonding it’s a story that will pull on your heartstrings and Jax and Skylar decide if friendships are more important that true love. I loved this sweet passion read that left me feeling all warm and cozy, I highly recommend it to anyone who loves romance and if love Christmas this is a must read as this is certainly a winner in my book.
A Gentleman For Christmas is a perfect holiday treat! Sweet and sexy and warm enough to melt your heart!
“In war as in love, there are rules of engagement. You have to know when to strike, know when to wait, know when to go in guns blazing.”
I loved this second chance, friends to lovers story! Jax just cannot break the bro code, the Gentleman’s rule. He can’t date his best friend’s ex, even if he was in love with her first. And even if he loves her too much to back away.
“Gentleman’s Rule—When you find the right woman, never let go.”
Skylar is heartbroken after her break up with Luke. She had her life mapped out and suddenly things were not what she had planned. Jax had already hurt her a long time ago and she didn’t want to allow him back in.
“You were my first love,” I whisper but don’t make eye contact.
He kneels, taking both my hands. His blue eyes look up at me, full of warmth. “I want to be your last,” he whispers back.”
Love love loved, Jax and Skylar’s story!!
-5 Stars!-
The world believes he has has it all together. Little do they know he’s still a work in progress. Sometimes it takes a missed opportunity to remind us what we’re missing. A Gentleman for Christmas is a captivating look at love, friendship and second chances. Jax is the man with all the answers. Skylar is the girl that got away. Can the man with a plan, convince the girl of his dreams to risk her heart on him? Prescott Lane brings a fascinating twist to self help with an adorably tempting romantic comedy. Sentiment and humor come together to make a mesmerizing read.
This was a well-written holiday novella that had plenty of feels and made me want to keep reading.
Jax has some of the swooniest lines that melted my heart. The guy is definitely a gentleman I’d like to have for Christmas.
“It should’ve been us at prom. We should’ve been college sweethearts. We should’ve been each other’s first.” I reach out and take her hand. “The past ten years should’ve been mine.”
See?? ^
I loved his love for Skylar.
I loved their friendship.
I envied their bond.
I loved how determined he was to not let her go this time.
IMHO, I wanted/needed Skylar to grieve the relationship she had with Luke a little bit longer. She was with him for 10 years, so maybe if there had been more time after the breakup before her and Jax got together, I’d be happier?
Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed this story very much!
I know Jax has loved her for…ever.
And even Skylar wanted him way back then. I know he’d take a bullet for her. He will do what it takes to keep her.
I enjoyed the mixture of humor and heart and passion this story had. It was touching, it gave me smiles, and even pulled at the heartstrings a time or two, making me tear up.
This was my first read by Prescott Lane and I look forward to more!
A Gentleman for Christmas is a stand alone, fairly short holiday story that I am completely in love with. This book was everything. I had butterflies, I swooned, I sighed, I gasped. It was amazing.
Jax Teigan and Skylar grew up next door to each other. They have known each other all their lives. They were best friends with three other friends, Luke, Malcolm and Maci, the five of them inseparable. Jax knew Luke had a crush on Skylar, but so did he. He’d been in love with her since they were in elementary school. But Jax kept his feelings to himself. He let Luke make his move, and Jax lost his chance, and his heart. Now ten years later, Skyler is back and single. He’s not making the same mistake again.
“Skylar is the one woman that has stuck to me. No matter what I do. I haven’t ever been able to exorcise the pull I feel to her.”
Skyler left Waterscape, Florida where she grew up and lived in Chicago as did Luke. They’d been together ten years, but it was over. Now she’s back in Waterscape. As she and Jax spend time together, he doesn’t hesitate to let her know how he feels. How he’s always felt. It’s too soon, her feelings are too raw. But it’s Christmas and Jax makes her feel happy. Isn’t that what’s more important? Can’t she just push the rest away for now and enjoy this time?
“Rules or no rules. Bro code or not, I know all I want for Christmas this year and every year is Skylar.”
Skyler and Jax are forced to deal with their long buried feelings for each other as well as the guilt of caring for the ex girlfriend of his close friend. But Skyler has always had Jax’s heart, she just never knew it. This could be their chance at finally finding the happiness that always escaped them.
“The gentleman rules, but the lady commands.”
I loved every single thing about this book. Jax made my heart do little flip flops in my chest. He felt so much for Skyler and he didn’t hold back a bit! She might not have been ready for all of his honesty but he was going for it big time.
This is only my second book by Prescott Lane. I had the same reaction with the first book I read of hers, Ryder. I fell madly in love with it. So I think this means I’m a fan. And I definitely need to check out her other books. Don’t miss this perfect holiday book. I hope you love these two as much as I did.

What does the man who wrote The Gentleman’s Guide really know about love? It turns out, not everything, not even close. When the girl who got away comes back into his life Jax pulls out all the stops and while he uses some of his rules, he makes and breaks some along the way too. Skylar’s heart is a bit tender, but it isn’t broken, at least not where Jax is concerned. The feelings they kept to themselves all those years ago come right back to the surface when Jax sweeps in like a gentleman and saves Christmas. But Christmas is a like living in a bubble and when the week is up where do things stand? Is it Jax and Skylar’s time or does Skylar need space to be on her own for the first time?
“Have I been brought home this Christmas for a reason?”
A Gentleman for Christmas is my favorite kind of holiday romance and it’s even better since it’s written by one of my favorites, Prescott Lane. While Jax’s role as a powerful, influential self-help author and speaker isn’t relatable, his situation with longtime best friend Skylar is. He follows the bro code, the one he preaches about in his Gentleman’s Guides, but she’s always been the one he wants and sometimes gentlemen break the rules. Skylar is sweet, smart, and really sassy. She breaks down the armor Jax has up around him, taking him from handsome, unreachable guy in a suit to that friend you can tell anything to. It’s obvious that despite the friendship they have that something more simmers between them. Like all classic friends to lover stories, there’s drama, there’s heart, and there’s heat. A Gentleman for Christmas ticks all the boxes for me when it comes to contemporary romance with the perfect Christmas bow on top.
I’m docking half a star for the friendship incident that takes place in this book. It’s a difficult subject and ultimately took away from the happily ever after that you always expect and usually get from a Christmas themed novel. It’s realistic in showing that life is messy and sometimes you lose some to win some, but for me it was like someone taking a bite out of the pie before it’s been cut.
A Gentleman for Christmas has the perfect title, cover, and story; Prescott Lane hit this one out of the park. It’s sweet and has the perfect holiday spirit to it, without being too Hallmark Channel movie like. It’s a book about the bonds of friendship, family, and love and the life lessons we learn along the way.
Jax is part of a group of friends that have been together since childhood. For as long as he can remember, it’s been Maci & Malcolm and Luke & Skylar and him. But before there was Luke & Skylar, it was Jax & Skylar as best friends. Now she’s back home in Florida for Christmas, having severed her 10-year relationship with Luke. Circumstances also worked out that she now has to stay with Jax instead of Maci & Malcolm and she’s clearly shattered and done with Luke.
I was unprepared for how “big” this story turned out to be in terms of overall character development, plot and complexity. I still can’t believe this is a novella as it is so complete in every aspect that short stories rarely pull off. Jax has always loved Skylar and she had a crush on him as a pre-teen through high school. She ended up with Luke (you’ll have to read it to find out why) and they’ve been together since, living in Chicago. What further complicates the situation is Jax is a relationship consultant, leading seminars that guide women—and men—on how they should be cared for and nurtured by men. He’s breaking a serious friend code by even thinking of finally pursuing a relationship with Skylar.
This was a nicely layered story of three people in a complicated situation that will potentially have devastating impacts on all five friends and each other. I felt like I knew each of these people intimately and it was often difficult to choose sides with ease. I normally loathe love triangles but this story isn’t that. The group dynamics, individual behaviors and relationships are all examined and shifted. The drama is realistic and the emotional pain was palpable at times, though there were so many situations providing comic relief. There aren’t any villains, just five people who loved each other and now must adjust to a different relationship. It’s just an outstanding story.
(I received an advance copy from the author in exchange for an unbiased review)
Can I get Jax for Christmas? He was the best part of the book – and the book was really good as a whole. I loved the second chance romance, especially since it featured childhood friends. I also thought the plot was really unique since all the players involved were childhood friends so the shifts in relationships had rippling affects through the entire group. I would’ve been happy to see this as a full novel – I want more Jax! I was absolutely flabbergasted by the actions of Skylar’s ex and had she and Jax not had a pre-existing relationship and history, I would’ve been skeptical about the swiftness of their connection, but somehow Prescott Lane made it all work (and well)! As usual, I can’t wait to read whatever the author comes out with next!
This was a good, quick read. The writing flowed well, and I liked Jax and Skylar together. Jax and Skylar had great chemistry, and I felt like they made a good couple. I didn’t get the whole drama around what Luke did. Skylar had already broken up with him, and while it was a jerk move to use her apartment, they weren’t together anymore, and Skylar moved on quickly. All the characters have their annoying moments, except for Malcom. He was a man of few words. I enjoyed the ending, and their HEA. This was a first for me from this author, and I would definitely read her again.
I voluntarliy reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
I finished this book, a content smile on my face and a true sigh of happiness might even have escaped me.

Gentleman’s Rule – If you don’t love her, someone else will.
“It’s the worst feeling in the world to watch someone you love with someone else, knowing no one could love her better than you.” – Jax
The bro code – Jax has lived by it since, well forever – He has made his fortune preaching those beliefs to others but Jax is a bit of a “do as I say and not as I do” kind of guy – never has been one for rules. Especially when the rules may get in the way of the one thing his heart truly wants.
Skylar chose safe for her future. Her heart loved once another only to find the love unrequited – her heart shattered she swore never again.
Safe was good – until it wasn’t enough.
A Gentleman for Christmas delivers on all the warm holiday feels
A heartwarming story of friendship, second chances and the sacrifices we make in the name of “doing the right thing”.
The characters were delightful and the story line flowed seamlessly, coaxing me into the pages and immersing me within the story.
I laughed so hard at Jax’s antics – cried with Skylar as her heart broke – Smiled with the gang when things actually went right.
A must add to your holiday collection.

I absolutely love reading Christmas stories. Although they’ve certainly changed over the years, nothing beats a good story with an even better Christmas.
We’ve all had that unwritten rule playing in the back of our head on replay our entire life. Never date the ex of a good friend. You just don’t do it.
But what if….
What if the person who is meant to be YOUR forever is available now that they’ve ended a 10-year relationship with one of your best friends? The one who you’ve loved since a young age… The one you broke her heart all because of a unwritten rule way back then.
Jax is truly a gentleman! Yes, he has had women in his life. But none that meant anything to him. They were there just to satisfy his manly needs. Never anything more. All because he can’t forget the one that should have been his… If it weren’t for that darn unwritten rule…
Skylar, the 10 years have gone by and still no marriage proposal. Still in the dead-end relationship that is on the highway to nowhere. Once she caught her boyfriend of 10 years in a situation that you can never heal from… Skylar deems its Time to end this relationship and move on. Heading back to Waterscape to have girl time with her BFF, she would have never thought things would end up this way!
I absolutely enjoyed reading this book. The history these two have together made this story! Plus being centered around the holidays, it was a perfect present to enjoy.

5 STAR Review by Jodi for Ruby Red Romance Review
Oh how I fell hard and fast for Jax. This man…he was so much more than I was expecting. Honestly, I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn’t him. He was funny, sweet, and loved one girl for as long as he could remember…Skylar. The love he had for her was so clear. But being with her was wrong. She was with another man, one of his best friends and it went against everything he believed to be with her. My heart broke for Jax at times. He was living by rules he developed and taught, but didn’t necessarily follow. It’s hard when you know there is one person you are meant to be with but can’t…until you can.
I loved Skylar. I loved how she just wanted to be with the one person who had turned his back on her so many years ago. But what if there was more to the story? What if she didn’t know the whole truth? What if the person who broke your heart, actually had the best of intentions? So much is unknown for Skylar. Her future or what she though was her future had changed, rapidly. She was such a strong character, even in times of weakness. I loved who she was.
This story was incredibly touching. Once I started it I could not stop. Hazards of starting a book on your lunch break, I guess. I found myself wrapped up in these characters and what their future looked like. Prescott Lane was a newer author to me, but every time I read one of her stories I fall further and further down the rabbit hole. Her work is powerful, sweet, and just simply fantastic. I loved every story of her’s so far. Please check out A Gentleman for Christmas. I promise you will not be disappointed.
Favorite Quotes:
I’m in trouble. She’s in “all men are assholes” mode. Threat level red. Someone should hoist the red flag up on the beach, warning hazardous conditions ahead.
The beach is wide, the water vast, the sky unending, and I’m reminded how small I am, like a single grain of sand… I look out toward the horizon, where the blue sky meets the blue water. Two shades of the same color. That’s the perfect way to think about Jax and me… Jax and I are the horizon, where he ends I begin, and vice versa.
I feel like I’m a kid in an expensive store, and I’m not supposed to touch… You’re worth too much.
“You were my first love,” I whisper but don’t make eye contact. He kneels, taking both my hands. His blue eyes look up at me, full of warmth. “I want to be your last,” he whispers back.
My Review:
Christmas came early for me this year and I’ve already enjoyed my gift from Prescott Lane. I adored this well-paced holiday novella from start to finish. Crisp and thoughtfully written in my favorite dual POV by one of my favorite authors, it covered all the bases as a friends to lovers, second chance, Christmas, and small-town romance. Plus, it had all the feels, buckets of wry humor, and Kindle melting love scenes. Nirvana!
A Gentleman for Christmas by Prescott Lane was a quick, fast paced dip into the rulebook of genteman. Said gentleman being Jax, the male lead here. He took the rules he and his best friends had growing up and made a successful business out if them. He’s rich and in demand, but he’s lonely. He lost Skylar, the only girl he ever loved ten years ago to his best friend, Luke. They have been together ever since.
Now, Skylar has come back home for Christmas and she has an unexpected gift for Jax.
She and Luke have broken up. And thanks to Skyar’s own best friend, they now have to spend the holidays together in Jax’s house.
But, those rules, man. They can’t be broken.
Can they?
Jax knows he’s only got one chance to change the mistakes he made in the past, and letting Skylar go isn’t one of them. But will she feel the same way?
Skylar just wanted to come home and wallow in misery with her best friend, but with Maci sick, she can’t stay with her as she planned. But staying with Jax? After how their friendship crashed and burned their senior year of high school. That’s not something she was expecting to do.
But, Jax has grown up, he’s still the same guy, but hotter and sexier and it’s not long before she’s feeling the effects of being in such close proximity to him, and when he tells her the truth from all those years ago, she has no way to fight her emotions.
Will this just be a rebound kind of fling, or is it the real deal?
I loved this book. The characters were fantastic, their chemistry spot on and Jax made the perfect gentleman caveman. Lol. Super hot and super sweet at the same time. I highly recommend this for some light, early Christmas reading by a toasty fire.

Guys have many rules when it comes to dating women….you know Bro Code. So what happens when the woman you have loved all your life is your Best Friends woman?? Do you break the rules or do save the friendship??
Read A Gentleman for Christmas to find out how Jax and Skylar made it through.
A Gentleman For Christmas is a entertaining and quick holiday read. Perfect to read now and get you in the holiday mood 🙂 It is a standalone novella, so it won’t take you long to read. But just because it is a novella, it was’t lacking for anything. We still got all the emotion and heart and even some drama, that we always get with a Prescott Lane book.
This story is told in Dual POV and is a complete standalone. No other book needs to be read or is referenced before enjoying this holiday treat. I know I found myself swept up in the holiday spirit and this story.
In this book we follow the story of Jax and Skylar. Jax and Skylar have been friends since they were kids, along with Luke, Maci and Malcolm. Jax and Skylar were the best of friends for a long time until Jax broke Skylar’s heart in high school. What Skylar didn’t know was the reason he made that mistake…..bro code. So now 10 years later Skylar is coming back home after yet again another heart break. Jax sees this as another chance to win her heart. But at what expense?? Can Jax and Skylar finally get their HEA?? What will happen to all the friendships this will effect?? Read this book to find out those answers.
I would definitely recommend this book to all fans of Prescott Lane’s and any reader who likes a great holiday friends to lovers story. This is for sure worth the read!!!

This is easily going to be one of my go to Christmas reads. So much fun. There is long time love from afar, a small love triangle, and a great steamy read all set against the backdrop of Christmas in Florida. All in all I loved it. It is everything I would like in a holiday romance. You really can’t go wrong with this steamy, Christmas read. (Review by Terri “Jane”)
Just in time to get us into the Holiday spirit comes A Gentleman for Christmas, a delightful and sigh worthy second-chance-at-love romance. I stayed glued to my seat until the very happy end that included an amazing epilogue, and it put a huge smile on my face.
“It’s funny how sometimes nothing means everything.”
Ten years ago Jax let the only girl he ever loved, his best friend Skylar, slip through his fingers; all because of The Bro Code he and his friends, Luke and Malcom, lived by. Skylar and Luke became a couple, as did his other friends, Maci and Malcom, while he remained single. After finding out Skylar and Luke broke up on her birthday, and she’s coming home to Florida, he decides he’s not letting her go, rules be damned!
“The man who writes about rules doesn’t like to follow them.”
Jax should know better, he has two books on the NYT Best Sellers List and his seminars sell out; women flock to them to hear him talk about the rules from his Gentleman’s Handbook. They’ve made him a wealthy man, but he’s missing the most important thing in his life, Skylar. He has his work cut out for him, if he wants to convince Skylar to give him a chance.
“He was my best friend. He probably knows me better than Luke. In fact, I’m sure he does, but Jax broke my heart long before lude did.”
Skylar had a crush on her best friend Ryan for years. When he turned down her invitation to go to prom with her, she accepted Luke’s and they became a couple. It helped that Ryan showed up at the prom with someone else and that kinda killed her feelings for him, the proverbial nail on the coffin. After ten years together, and moving to Chicago to be with him, Skylar breaks up with Luke and decides to go home, for Christmas, earlier than planned. The last thing she expected was Ryan waiting for her at the airport.
“One hurt wiped out years of love. How much love will it take to wipe out the hurt?”
I loved this story! I happy to admit that second chance romance is my weakness, there’s something about having another opportunity to rewrite history and heal old hurts. This story does not disappoint, you’re going to love it!
This is my second Prescott Lane read and another good one in the books.
I don’t usually read romance books based around Christmas. This was my first and I loved it.
This story gave you the warm fuzzies and all the feels. I would love to read more about the other characters is this book.
