NOW THE ACCLAIMED HBO SERIES GAME OF THRONES—THE MASTERPIECE THAT BECAME A CULTURAL PHENOMENON Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King’s Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert’s name. There his family dwells in peace and comfort: his proud wife, Catelyn; his sons … wife, Catelyn; his sons Robb, Brandon, and Rickon; his daughters Sansa and Arya; and his bastard son, Jon Snow. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse—unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season.
Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances. Now Robert is riding north to Winterfell, bringing his queen, the lovely but cold Cersei, his son, the cruel, vainglorious Prince Joffrey, and the queen’s brothers Jaime and Tyrion of the powerful and wealthy House Lannister—the first a swordsman without equal, the second a dwarf whose stunted stature belies a brilliant mind. All are heading for Winterfell and a fateful encounter that will change the course of kingdoms.
Meanwhile, across the Narrow Sea, Prince Viserys, heir of the fallen House Targaryen, which once ruled all of Westeros, schemes to reclaim the throne with an army of barbarian Dothraki—whose loyalty he will purchase in the only coin left to him: his beautiful yet innocent sister, Daenerys.

A Game of Thrones is a book in a series which is exactly the kind I like to dive into and not come up for days.
Fantastical moments grounded in a type of gritty reality combined in a world that isn’t about happily ever after but rather about survival within the particular concept that is the series.
Show first episode on HBO liked it purchased the first and didn’t stop until I read them all. Really liked the characters he created. Great stories!!!
Great writing, characters, etc. Great book!
This review is for the whole series of books. I loved them. I’m getting ready to read the series again. Wonderful books. Wonderful author.
Interesting take on the fantasy genre but I found the novel difficult to get into. Was hooked in the last chapters and plan to finish the book series at some point – before I watch the TV series.
I watched the show first and I must say I see why they took the book and ran with it. Wonderful book, can’t wait to read the next!
Wanted to read this book for a while. So glad I started. So much to love about the characters of Westeros. Hope the series will be finished before I catch up with the story.
What an amazing read, I absolutely loved every page of the book. I used to no think the book were that good until I tried this book. Bought the whole series and watched the whole show. 20 stars out of 5. Wonderful use of a vivid imagination and I wish to follow in these big footsteps as well. That’s how good this book was.
Love, Love, Love!
Fantastic intensely addictive and very well twisted plotting. Read these books on a lengthy trip and was completely engrossed the whole time
I read this after seeing the show, it really helped me understand so much more about the intrigue that you just don’t get just watching the show, it added so much more depth and understanding of the TV series.
This epic medieval tale is thrilling with original content, from the Gods to each separate house in their own regions… Highly recommended series
Not much.
I read this long before HBO produced it. As always, the book was way better than the series. I had a couple of sleepless nights because if this book.
Great book
I love this series. It has everything. And my favourite is TYRION LANNISTER! He is witty and clever. Like many others, I watched the TV Series but as always it never is as good on screen as it is in the books. Although the script stands very true to the book there were a few elements of the story which are now clearer to me. I thoroughly enjoyed …
Wordy & loses interest.
This book will keep you wanting to read more. You will become close to characters and wanting to know what happens to them
I was fully invested in the story until about 3/4 of the way through the book, when it started to get really twisted and weird. Also, about that time, I realized that it was going to end in a cliffhanger. I struggled to the end of the book, and have never been tempted to pick up any of the sequels.
My daughter and her husband love to watch the TV …
Loved it. Read all the books in. The series. Disappoint author never completed the series
