NOW THE ACCLAIMED HBO SERIES GAME OF THRONES—THE MASTERPIECE THAT BECAME A CULTURAL PHENOMENON Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King’s Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert’s name. There his family dwells in peace and comfort: his proud wife, Catelyn; his sons … wife, Catelyn; his sons Robb, Brandon, and Rickon; his daughters Sansa and Arya; and his bastard son, Jon Snow. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse—unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season.
Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances. Now Robert is riding north to Winterfell, bringing his queen, the lovely but cold Cersei, his son, the cruel, vainglorious Prince Joffrey, and the queen’s brothers Jaime and Tyrion of the powerful and wealthy House Lannister—the first a swordsman without equal, the second a dwarf whose stunted stature belies a brilliant mind. All are heading for Winterfell and a fateful encounter that will change the course of kingdoms.
Meanwhile, across the Narrow Sea, Prince Viserys, heir of the fallen House Targaryen, which once ruled all of Westeros, schemes to reclaim the throne with an army of barbarian Dothraki—whose loyalty he will purchase in the only coin left to him: his beautiful yet innocent sister, Daenerys.

1000 stars!
Loved the series! The TV show a state as true as possible to the books. What I like most of all was that it gave me more insight into each individual character, what they were about, what they were thinking, Etc
I’m totally hooked on this series
Excellent
Not your average Fantasy Tale. Anything can and does go!
Entertaining, absorbing
love this book
I found it depressing, overall.
hard to read, but sort of worth it.
OK guys this is the kind of book I love
It’s a long book though so you are going to take a long time reading but you will enjoy it
Love Love Love em
Okay, if you haven’t been living in a cave in Antarctica, you know what GoT is about. But if you haven’t read the book(s), you don’t really. And as good as the TV series is (probably the best TV limited series ever), the books were the inspiration and, in their own right, are every bit as great.
Oh, you don’t read books, haven’t for years? Try …
Well worth the read. Character’s are unique and the world is fully fleshed out.
Excellent story but slow going at times.
I keep going back for more!
Edge of your seat reading!
I hated it – tried to read it several times.
Too much. Too many characters, too much going on, and too many main character’s die. Still the world building is great and the characters are full people. Just too much.
I liked the first book, but each subsequent novel less and less. I have not watched HBO series, so I have no preconceived notion of how things “should” be.
Five stars, but I cannot recommend this book. I’m still mad at the old man for not finishing the series.
