You’ve read the books. You’ve watched the hit series on HBO. Now acclaimed novelist Daniel Abraham and illustrator Tommy Patterson bring George R. R. Martin’s epic fantasy masterwork A Game of Thrones to majestic new life in the pages of this graphic novel. Comprised of the initial six issues of the comic book series, this is the first volume in what is sure to be one of the most coveted … coveted collaborations of the year.
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King’s Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert’s name. There his family dwells in peace and comfort: his proud wife, Catelyn, his sons Robb, Brandon, and Rickon, his daughters Sansa and Arya, and his bastard son, Jon Snow. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse—unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer . . . but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season.
Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances. Now Robert is riding north to Winterfell, bringing his queen, the lovely but cold Cersei, his son, Prince Joffrey, a cruel, vainglorious youth, and the queen’s brothers Jaime and Tyrion of the powerful and wealthy House Lannister—the first a swordsman without equal, the second a dwarf whose stunted stature belies a brilliant mind. All heading for Winterfell and a fateful encounter that will change the course of kingdoms.
While across the Narrow Sea, Prince Viserys, heir of the fallen House Targaryen, which once ruled all of Westeros, schemes to reclaim the throne with an army of barbarian Dothraki—whose loyalty he will purchase in the only coin left to him: his beautiful yet innocent sister, Daenerys.

Great book, unpredictable, hard to put down, few books keep me as engaged as this one
Love, love, loved it! The whole series!
I read this book sooo long ago! Thoroughly enjoyed it and feel very let down there has not been the last book of the series. I didn’t watch the TV show, because I felt it could never live up to the reading experience.
Fantastic in detail and scope. On par with Brotherhood of the Ring series.
The story parallels some of the history of England with some twists of fantasy and a geography. The many plotlines require careful attention to the relationships and alliances of the varied groups.
Best story ever!!!!!
I loved this entire series, but in order to enjoy it, you can’t invest too much in any one character. You will be moving along in the story and suddenly *bam*… a character you have come to know and like is… gone. The first time it happened I was a bit shaken, but I found that there are many characters that develop so well you begin to mourn briefly and move on. But every time I finished one of the books in this series, I couldn’t wait to start the next, and when it all came to an end, I couldn’t read another book for a while for fear of disappointment.
read this book quite a few years ago before the movie came out and thought it was absolutely fascinating the way everything worked in the way the people’s minds worked
Better than the hbo series
This is a wonderful book and start to the series. I read it when it first came out and recommended it to my son, who is also hooked by the series. George R R Martin’s writing is very good. My only complaint is that he has failed to finish this series in a timely fashion and has gone on to other stories. It been a very long time since the last book in the series has appeared.
I read this book 6 years ago for the first time. I plan on reading it again in the near future!
Simply the best fantasy fiction I have ever read.
The entire series if phenomenal. Well worth the time to read.
Amazing world building and incredible characters! I love it when my favorite books are many into movies/series.
I love this book…I love the series……
Write faster George, write faster.
Spectacular epic fantasy. This series is my favorite in this genre.
George RR creates an incredible world as Tolkien did to Middle Earth. Surprising, exhilarating and fascinating. Read before I saw the GOT on HBO, so I enjoyed the visual with the wordage (at least to season 5). Disappointed in the fact George RR pursued other interests before season 6 (untitled) book was published.
Its George RR Martin in picture form
The first book was good; the second better; the third – OUT OF THIS WORLD; fourth – huh??; fifth – better but OK. Really enjoy the story line of these books.
