You’ve read the books. You’ve watched the hit series on HBO. Now acclaimed novelist Daniel Abraham and illustrator Tommy Patterson bring George R. R. Martin’s epic fantasy masterwork A Game of Thrones to majestic new life in the pages of this graphic novel. Comprised of the initial six issues of the comic book series, this is the first volume in what is sure to be one of the most coveted … coveted collaborations of the year.
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King’s Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert’s name. There his family dwells in peace and comfort: his proud wife, Catelyn, his sons Robb, Brandon, and Rickon, his daughters Sansa and Arya, and his bastard son, Jon Snow. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse—unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer . . . but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season.
Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances. Now Robert is riding north to Winterfell, bringing his queen, the lovely but cold Cersei, his son, Prince Joffrey, a cruel, vainglorious youth, and the queen’s brothers Jaime and Tyrion of the powerful and wealthy House Lannister—the first a swordsman without equal, the second a dwarf whose stunted stature belies a brilliant mind. All heading for Winterfell and a fateful encounter that will change the course of kingdoms.
While across the Narrow Sea, Prince Viserys, heir of the fallen House Targaryen, which once ruled all of Westeros, schemes to reclaim the throne with an army of barbarian Dothraki—whose loyalty he will purchase in the only coin left to him: his beautiful yet innocent sister, Daenerys.

As a reader of the original books even before it became a hit HBO show, I would likely read anything that has George R. R. Martin’s name attached to it. That said, I really love the idea of having the original books and the graphic novels, because it gives me pictures to go with his beautiful words. 🙂
Martin slyly steals British war history, adds some dragons and a few zombies and enthralls you with it all.
This is the book that made me read the series…
When I first read this book I was amazed. The first three books in the series were some of the best fantasy I’ve ever read. Of course, that was before the tv show and the author’s refusal to finish the series. It’s worth reading in and of itself. Just don’t expect the story to ever be resolved.
One of the best
This is the first book in the series and it is the very best!
This is the first book of the Game of Thrones series. If you have not read the books you will definitely want to start here! Don’t let the size stop you from starting this book! You will want to read every single page!
I was hooked from the first book read preceding. HBO one of the 1st to do the books justice but books are still the best
If you haven’t read these books but only saw the show then by all means do treat yourself. It will be the start of your new book addiction but beware there are only 5 books. Outstanding reads all.
I loved the series, great entertainment.
This whole series completely deserves its fame and praise.
GOT is just plain great!
This is a classic.
Can’t wait to see who get to sit on the throne
One of the best series I have read
Wasn’t sure if I would like a graphic novel version but it was very well done. Some parts were hard to see on my e reader but not author’s fault. I had not seen any GoT before reading and ended up watching the first episode and it was fun to see how it followed along. I think I would enjoy a print copy more, but I like the graphic novel version.
A truly great fantasy series with some of the greatest heroes, strongest women, and worst villains in the genre.
Not a great listyen as the actor did not have a large range of chartactes so some sounded the same.
The first book in the fire and ice saga is simply amazing.
Read it three times so far.
