A GAME OF THRONES
A CLASH OF KINGS
A STORM OF SWORDS

“One of the best series in the history of fantasy.”—Los Angeles Times
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King’s Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert’s name. There his family dwells in peace and comfort: his proud wife, Catelyn; his sons Robb, Brandon, and Rickon; his daughters Sansa and Arya; and his bastard son, Jon Snow. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse—unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season.
Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances. Now Robert is riding north to Winterfell, bringing his queen, the lovely but cold Cersei, his son, the cruel, vainglorious Prince Joffrey, and the queen’s brothers Jaime and Tyrion of the powerful and wealthy House Lannister—the first a swordsman without equal, the second a dwarf whose stunted stature belies a brilliant mind. All are heading for Winterfell and a fateful encounter that will change the course of kingdoms.
Meanwhile, across the Narrow Sea, Prince Viserys, heir of the fallen House Targaryen, which once ruled all of Westeros, schemes to reclaim the throne with an army of barbarian Dothraki—whose loyalty he will purchase in the only coin left to him: his beautiful yet innocent sister, Daenerys.
“Long live George Martin . . . a literary dervish, enthralled by complicated characters and vivid language, and bursting with the wild vision of the very best tale tellers.”—The New York Times

I loved these books before HBO got to kill everyone off. Have read Rings, Thomas Covenant, Kingslayer. These are my favorites in this genre.
At first wasn’t sure how it would be, then I got sucked in and now I’m addicted. Worried GRR Martin will die before he finished tho.
Really good story, even if there are a hundred storylines. Can’t wait for …
There are so many wonderful aspects to this series it could never be said in one review. Everything about this series is outstanding: from characters to story to unpredictability, etc. There is not one negative factor. My only complaint? Write faster! I need to know how this story ends!
Seriously if you have not read this story you are …
i absolutely loved all these books. I started watching the HBO series 1st and had to read all the books. So many characters and so much going on. These books have to be my favorite reads. I couldn’t put them down.
I have read all these books and love everyone!! I wish Mr. Martin would never end the wonderful stories and characters on this series!
Go John Snow!!
They’re very long but there is a great deal
more detail than you get in the hbo series.
Hard to keep track of all the characters. Game of Thrones follows it mostly, at least thru Season 5. Wonderful story. LLLLOOOOOONNNNNNGG!
I loved them all but you do have to wade through a lot of characters . It’s daunting but worth it!
Better than the tv show! Everyone should read the books. Major plot changes, some of the characters are different. I love the show too but the books and show diverge especially after the first season.
I have read all the books in the series (that have been published so far) and am still waiting in anticipation for the next novel ‘The Winds of Winter’. The books are full to say the least, with many characters to follow and plots to watch unravel and interlink. This high fantasy series is one of my favourites and I love its complexity, but I …
Binge read these in order before the HBO Series was even on….. Could not put down and anxiously awaiting the next
Of course this legendary Series is top Tier. Hope to match it one day.
If you enjoyed the series, read the books! They are infinitely better. There is so much more here than what was in the TV adaptation that it’s like getting a whole, new set of stories? The character development and stories lines are much more complex and intricate that you be delighted that there is much more left to enjoy in this series. Best …
I’ve never watched the HBO version, but I loved the books. Highly recommended!!!
I haven’t felt such a slow passage of time since I read 14 volumes of the Wheel of Time. It was a slow read for me due to unfamiliar names and vocabulary. Too much treachery, conflict, deliberate maiming, spite. I’m at a point in my life where I prefer sunshine to rain.
Loved all 5 books. Was sad when I finished.
Really enjoyed held my attention
So much better than the TV series but, he needs to finish the book series.
If you haven’t read these books … where have you been!? Ok, yes, probably more people have been watching ‘Game of Thrones’ on the t.v., and yes, it is an awesome show, but nothing beats what you can imagine in your own mind! Yes, in my opinion, the t.v. show is as good as the books, but realistically, statistically (according to me) the majority …
If there is another master of fantasy in the world in addition to J. R. R. Tolkien, then George R. R. Martin is it. This world is so very complex and detailed that it is like it comes alive from the pages in your minds eye. The politics in his world makes our politicians look like amateurs. I suggest that you be careful of what you say and to …
Forget the TV series, Martin has created hands down the best quality fantasy books since LOTR.
