Fool’s Circle by Suzanne Seddon packs a punch on many levels. It is an interesting thriller that would be great turned into a movie. That being said , it is not for the faint of heart. There is extreme domestic violence in the form of physical, psychological and emotional abuse, as well as, several rape scenes. The language is a bit coarse at times and some of the verbiage is difficult to understand since it is more British. The characters are well developed and you learn to love to hate them. The general premise finds Kate and her daughter, Sophie, in an abusive household with her husband, Alan. He is a drunk and an abusive bully. Kate’s life is miserable and she wishes to escape but doesn’t have a way out. She confides all this to her close and long-time friend, Jill. Suddenly, Kates’ aunt dies and leaves her and her daughter a fortune. Finally feeling like she has a future, she begins planning a way out. Kate asks her friend Jill to hide the money for her. The two go out to celebrate and meet a man named John who Kate starts to “see as a great guy” and the opposite of her husband. As the story continues, Kate comes home one night to a murdered Alan and is blamed for the crime. I do not want to spoil the story so I will stop there. A wonderful book that has so many twists and turns it’s hard to keep up. I was given this novel by the author in exchange for my honest review. 5/5 stars
this grabbed my interest from page 1 and it is a book you cannot stop reading with a surprise ending.
Kate has been mentally and physically abused by her husband for many years. Why does she stay? She’s hanging on for her 8-year-old daughter who is just now questioning why Daddy does the things he does. Her best friend, Jill, has been trying to convince her to leave for a long time.
Just when things look even bleaker, Kate gets a call from an attorney’s office. Her aunt has died and left quite a lot of money. This is her one chance to get away….
Telling no one except her friend, Jill, she makes plans to run. She even meets a new man who may become someone important to her.
But everyone has secrets… Kate’s husband, the new man in her life, even her best friend, Jill. And they all seem to be after the same thing ….
WARNING — This book may not be suited for everyone as it does contain triggers. The language is rough, meant to ruin one self-esteem, domestic violence, and a rape scene.
This is a well-written psychological thriller with credible characters and enough twists and turns to keep you reading and reading until the very unexpected ending.
