This is an easy to read, happily ever after addition to the Spinster Guild series. Lady Smithton helps another young ‘soon to be spinster’ find true love. With the help of Lord Havisham, her faithful, adoring, will-do-anything to gain her favor, she is able to bring Lady Amelia and the rogue Lord Montague together.
I first read books 2&3 in this series then went back and read book 1 which is Lady Smithtons story of how she became a London socialite. I highly recommend reading book 1 first. I look forward to Rise Pearson’s next installment if the Spinsters Guild.
This family-friendly, heart-warming tale of accepting the truth about circumstances, whether one’s own or those of another, and going on with life takes less than a day to read.

This was a wonderful addition to The Spinsters Guild series. It can be read as a standalone story. Amelia has such a sweet personality and suffered through much and Oliver learned that being a rogue wasn’t truly what he wanted. I loved seeing more of Lady Smithton and Lord Havisham. I felt they as a couple were more involved in this book. I look forward to reading the next book in this series very much.

So many emotions & feelings-hope, endure, desire, anger, frustration, shame, devotion, love are shown throughout the story. We all have made mistakes, done things we regret, Amelia with her tree accident, not listening to her governess, Oliver’s and his not so clean past, the hurt he caused others. As we learn to live with the past decisions they too accepted the truth and some consequences. Amelia with help from Lady Smithton and Mrs. Peters and Oliver with help from Lord Havisham.
Forgiveness isn’t easy at times, but it brings a calmness to each of us when we find we can give it to others
Loved this book. It continues in the Spinster series with Lady Amelia, who has a limp and is looked down on by society for it, and Lord Montague, who is forced into a bet with threats against his standing with the ton. It drew me in from the first page and never let go until the last.
Book four of The Spinsters Guild series a well written story that held my interest from the start. Lady Amelia Ferguson walks with a limp she caused, she meets Lord Oliver Montague who has made a wager with another to make her fall in love with him. I enjoyed reading their story and seeing how much they have to go through before their love happens. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A sweet story of a young Lady who found herself part of the Spinster’s Club, when the ‘ton’ spurns her due to a slight limp, an imperfection upon which they seize so as to disparage her. Enter a rogue, Oliver Montague, who allows himself to be entrapped in a bet regarding Lady Amelia, in order to spare himself the embarrassment of having his indiscretion be made to the wounded husband. How peace is made between all parties is unusual, adding a twist on how the story ends,

I didn’t like Lord Montague at first. He used women for his own pleasure, never considering that their feelings might become engaged, or that he might potentially ruin them socially. He turned from Lady Amelia at first because although she had a beautiful face she limped. It was only because of a wager that he spent time with her, knowing that his actions could hurt her emotionally and socially. I didn’t think he and the other self-centered and cruel members of the ton were worthy of her. However, I wanted Lady Amelia, who was seen as less of a person and incapable because of her limp to find happiness.
A Foolish Wager by Rose Pearson is book 4 in The Spinsters Guild series. What a wonderful story this is! Lady Amelia was injured in a fall from a tree when she was 12 leaving her with a permanent limp. Because of this she is shunned by the ton and mocked. She meets Lord Montague who is considered a rake and a cad. He goes after the young women of the ton. Amelia has been warned about him but as he stands up for her to other members her heart softens. This is an excellent, enjoyable page turner! You need to read to see how it all turns out! Highly recommend!
I found this a real page turner that has you crying at some points, or it did for me. It is a recommended read. It is book four of the series and all are worth reading. The plot is believable and realistic.

Another lovely story by Rose Pearson! I loved the main characters Amelia and Oliver. Although Amelia is wary of Oliver at the beginning, and rightly so, it was beautiful to see Oliver change for Amelia. I loved it when he stood up for her, and although he started off as a rogue, it was really sweet to see him change for Amelia.
The plot was good, and I enjoyed the secondary characters. Overall a sweet Regency romance!

Rating of 3.5 stars. A very sweet Regency read. Some angst, with Amelia trying to fit into the world of the ton, which expects perfection. An accident when she was a young girl, causing her to have a permanent limp, makes that difficult for her. Also not helping is her uncle pushing her to make a match this season so he no longer has to support her. Oliver starts to court her because of a bet made and some blackmail thrown in, but it unexpectedly evolves into something more for him. In the end, it was nice to see Oliver’s conscious (and love) try to fix the wrong he did to Amelia. I enjoyed the story.

The Spinsters Guild series has gotten better with each book and I truly loved this heartwarming and emotional romance that had me completely immersed in all that was happening from start to finish. My heart went out to Lady Amelia who has a limp from a fall when she was a child and loved her attraction and undeniable chemistry with Lord Oliver Montague, a rogue and cad. Ms. Pearson has given us another winner with “A Foolish Wager” and I look forward to book five in his captivating series. Love wins the day.
The Spinsters Guild is one of my favorite series by Rose Pearson. I know I’ll cry when it come to an end not just because I know in my heart Lord Haversham will finally get his Lady Smithton but because it will end. How horrible it must have been in those days when any little imperfection diminished ones worth and ostracized one from the entire “ton” even though you were just as good if not better them in character. I think sometimes people mock things simply because they don’t take time to look beyond it and understand it therefore they are afraid of it. And I truly felt the Lord Montague learned a little humility and was able to see what a shallow person he had been through the love he found with Lady Amelia. The only thing left wanting for me was how did Lord Davidson know of Lord Haversham’s deeds and what was his comeuppance. I heartily recommenced this and all of the Spinsters Guild.

A Fool Redeemed by Love
Since the day Lady Amelia was 12 and fell from a tree on her family’s estate, she has suffered the disdain and ridicule of her father, her uncle and high society at large. Her painful limp has restricted her activities and left her with little hope of ever finding love or marrying.
A rogue and a cad in every way, Lord Thornhill has only ever thought of his own wants and pleasures. Since he has never cared about anyone else, he has rightfully earned the disdain of London society. However, misdeeds have a way of coming back to haunt when least expected.
What happens to bring these two opposites together is the crux of A Foolish Wager by Rose Pearson. This well written, stand-alone novella is the next book in the Spinster’s Guild series. It is both clean and sweet, and it’s worth the short time it takes to read. In fact, because this is a tale for any age reader, I would especially hope that pre-teen and teenager readers will read this emotional novella and learn a valuable lesson about the importance of ones reputation, integrity and honesty. The moral lesson within its pages are a reminder to all readers that kindness, truth and love are worthy of protecting at all cost.
Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book from the author. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.
Lady Emily Smithton had been sold into an unpleasant marriage but returned as a strong, wealthy, and independent young widow who has vowed to never put herself under a man’s control again. She is now approached by other women who ask for her help in finding matches so that they are not shamed as spinsters, left on the shelf. This was the start of the Spinsters Guild, to give hope to amazing women who would otherwise live lonely, solitary lives through absolutely no fault of their own!
As a young girl who loved to climb trees, Lady Amelia Ferguson’s devastating fall out of the apple tree has repercussions in her life among the Ton. Because of her limp, she is less than perfect in their eyes and is ridiculed and shunned by the men and the so-called ladies. Her companion has heard of the Spinsters Guild and may need to seek Lady Smithton’s help.
Lord Oliver Montague is proud of his unsavory reputation as a rake, with many placing bets on whether he can steal a kiss or win much more from a widow or unhappily married lady. One of his colleagues, wanting to replenish his lost gambling funds, blackmails Lord Oliver into a wager to kiss Lady Amelia, make her fall in love with him, and make her actually say the words aloud.
Forced into courting Lady Amelia or having his own reputation tarnished, Lord Oliver had not expected the actual feelings she invoked in him. She is delighted that someone can see her, not as a victim of her infirmity, but as a vibrant, worthy woman capable of love. But how will she react if she finds his attraction was offered only to win a wager? Can she believe his feelings are real and not just a cruel joke for the amusement of the Ton?
As always, I loved this beautiful story, even as it slightly departed from the usual Spinsters Guild stories. I also appreciate the life lessons the author imparts, although it reinforces my dislike of the snobby Ton. Yet I suppose the good people wouldn’t shine as brightly without our glimpsing the bad ones. This was a good story line with “feel-good” moments, and allowed the reader to feel protective of Lady Amelia who did not deserve the treatment she received. Does she get her HEA? Is Lord Oliver a changed man and ready to step up to love? Grab your copy and enjoy another wonderful book by this author.
What is that ole saying, what a web we weave when we practice to deceive. Or something like that. This is story is based on that ole saying. An innocent young lady with a limp, an infamous rake, a blackmailer. The rake is Lord Oliver, Earl of Montague. He had an illicit affair with a married woman, Lady Thornhill. If her husband were to find out the consequences would be devastating for him. He would be shunned from all polite society among other consequences. The blackmailer, Lord Davidson, was in desperate need of money and thought the easiest way to get it was to win a bet placed in White’s bet book. Davidson set his sights on Oliver. He knew of his indiscretion with Lady Thornhill and threatened to reveal it to her husband. Davidson told him he had to win the love of a young lady who was mocked and treated with disdain and then walk away breaking her heart. Oliver did not want to do that but he also did not want to suffer at the hands of a powerful lord like Thornhill. He took the bet. His target to his shock was Lady Amelia. She is the daughter of the late Earl of Stockbridge and the niece of the current Earl, her uncle. Amelia broke her leg as a child and it left her with a limp. Her father was a mean man and never much cared for her. That continued throughout her life when her father was alive and now it continued with her uncle. Despite that she had a gentle heart, good morals, she was caring and kind. She is a beautiful young lady and would have been considered a diamond of the first water if it had not been for her limp. The ton was cruel and mocked her to her face. They had no compulsion in shaming her and treating her like she did not belong and letting her know she was not wanted. How she had the strength to live through that I do not know. She is stronger of character that she believes herself to be. I admire her character. For she lived each day full of misery, physical pain from her leg, an uncaring uncle and no hope for a suitor to marry her. Her companion and chaperone put Amelia in touch with Lady Smithton. If you have been reading the “Spinster’s Guild” series you will remember she put it together to help young ladies who feel like outcasts from society but desperately needed help and guidance to navigate the ton successfully and perhaps find true love. Amelia was encouraged and over time let Lady Smithton assist her. Everything in Amelia’s life was looking up until she met Oliver. She found him kind, attentive and attractive. But with his reputation she was warned by all to stay away and be wary of him. A very stimulating and poignant story of greed, self-preservation and the desire to be love. An excellent story and I do recommend. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another great Regency Series by Rose Pearson. I really enjoyed Lord Montague and Amelia’s story and all the characters of the spinsters guild. I look forward to more books in the series.
