Lord Oliver Montague has reluctantly taken a bet. A bet that will break Lady Amelia’s heart. If he doesn’t take the bet, he will be outcast from the Ton, but if he does, he learns that he will regret it forever. Amelia has learned through a mistake when young that the Ton is unforgiving and harsh. This is a sweet historical romance. A good read.

This is such a good series, and this book is ANOTHER great addition to it.
In a society where the least default is not acceptable, what does a woman who has a bum leg and cannot walk without a limp do? Even if she is beautiful – it does not matter.. Seriously a great book.

A rake who meets his match.
This was truly a lovely story about a rake who meets his match in a charming young woman. Amelia is just the right character to save Oliver and the change in him was grand. Oliver was a product of the Ton and live up to his reputation yet this season was finding it not as satisfying. I so wanted to see Amelia get a happy-ever-after. The only question is there going to be a story about Lord Havisham and Lady Smithton? High praise for this gem I hope you pick it up. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Lady Amelia, having fallen from a tree as a young girl, is now dealing with the consequences of that fall. Living with a limp, the ton is not exceptionally pleasant to her. Not having felt the love from her father, and now her Uncle who has control, she wanted only to marry for love. Her companion suggested she seek help from Mrs. Smithton and hence she became a member of the Spinsters Guild. Lord Oliver Montague has a reputation of making young ladies fall for him only to have him never to follow thru any further. Not caring if he marries soon or not, Oliver wants this season to be different. That was until he is blackmailed by Lord Davidson. Knowing he has no choice, he proceeds to make Amelia fall for him. Not trusting Oliver at first, Amelia proceeds to fall for him anyway. With all the drama, chaos of the courtship and other factors, can these two prove they can be a pair? Will Oliver’s past ways come back to haunt him? A must read to discover how this plays out.

Lady Amelia, not accepted by the ton as she suffers with a painful limp from a childhood accident, is being pushed by her Uncle to marry this season. Lord Montague, a Rogue of the first order, is thrown into a quandary when Lord Davidson places a wager and with a threat of blackmail he takes. Trouble is, the Lady in question seems to soothe his unworthy heart and as his admiration grows, his fears of having made a foolish mistake threaten his one chance at love. Loved these characters. Venturing into a new ‘Spinsters Guild’ mission, Lady Smithton is not so positive and in control as with previous ladies or with Lord Havisham which brings another level of normalcy and honesty.

I really liked this book. The story shows how a woman who had been out casted by the ton who has a slight disability can still find romance. Even with the hurdle of a misguided gentleman makes a bad decisions due to blackmail. This was a sweet and clean romance story.

Lady Amelia fell out of a tree when she was a child and was left with limp and a leg that pained her into adulthood, it also caused her to be snubbed by her peers. Never getting much love or understanding growing up made marrying for affection was something she longed for but now her uncle and guardian told her she must find a husband by the end of the season. Her companion heard of Mrs. Smithton helping young ladies find husbands and arranged for Amelia to meet with her, thus Amelia became a member of the Spinster’s Guild. There was also a young Earl, Oliver was known for making young ladies fall for him and stealing a kiss some men had gotten rich on bets as to who he would succeed with this season. Oliver had no plans to continue with this however a Lord Davidson decided to blackmail Oliver into getting him to win a kiss from Amelia as well as a declaration of her love for him otherwise he would speak to the husband of the lady Oliver had been to close to last year. Having no choice her proceeds to court Amelia who at first is very cautious, but slowly begins to trust him and hope there is more to come of this attraction. What happens is very interesting.

Lady Smithton and her Spinsters Guild is at work again in book 4. Helping Lady Amelia, daughter of the Earl of Stockbridge. She is a lovely young lady who should have her pick of suitors. But as she was a tomboy as a young girl, and fell from a tree leaving her with a bad leg and limp. The ton has no use for anyone regardless of money and titles that is not perfect. So she is poked fun at and many make callous remarks and ridicule her. Her first season was a disaster. She is not looking forward to other season but as her father is dead now and her Uncle is forcing her to wed this season or else.
Neither her father or uncle has any feelings for her and treat her worst them the ton.
Lord Oliver Montague is a rogue of the first order, he won a lot of bets last season at Whites for getting young debutantes to give him their affection, and kisses then he just left them. He was not nasty enough to ruin them, but also has a history of being with young willing widows and wife’s of older men. He is tired of being watched all the time by the gentleman of the ton and has vowed not to be in the betting book this season.
He meets Lady Amelia after running over her not watching where he was going.
When he see her limp away, he thinks he has hurt her. After finding out the truth he can not seem to forget her. After hearing her sing and play, he starts looking for her at whatever events he is at.
Her friends Lady Smithton, Lord Havisham, and Mrs Peters her companion, warn her to not be
seen with him as he is a cad and not what he seems.
Everything changes when he asks her uncle to court her. Her uncle will not let her say no.
He is being blackmailed to be with her, by Lord Davidson who has lost all his money and needs to
win this bet. If Oliver doesn’t do as he says he will tell the very powerful Lord Thornhill that he spent time with his very young wife….
Oh my, the plot thickens. You need to get a copy to find out how all this ends, and who wins and who loses more then money and power but maybe love too.
I was given and ARC of this book and am leaving this review of my own opinions.
Note reading this series out of order you will lose a lot of the history behind the characters.

This book is the fourth in the series & this time not everything goes according to Lady Smithson’s plan. I liked Oliver & how he fell for Amelia but he’d dug himself into a hole with the bet & his way out showed how he really felt. I hated the members of the ton who belittled & were down right nasty to Amelia & warmed even more to Oliver when he defended her. I liked how Amelia grew in confidence when she realised some people saw her not her limp. Another delightful story, which I read in a sitting & I look forward to Lady Smithson realising what is in front of her nose
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
The story didn’t grab me.
The set-up seemed unlikely, but I did like the characters.
ONE MESMERIZING ADVENTURE!!!
Tossing the deck! Shenanigans, chaos and mayhem sets the pace in this dramatic spin that blasts this bad boy wide open. Rose doesn’t mess around and delivers her works of magic once again in this intense and engaging little jewel. All drama, skepticism, intrigue and suspense increases steadily as tension spirals. Pushing on-ward with such perfection and skill escalating this baby to staggering heights. Hurdling the trials and tribulations, a slew of twists and turns with all the sharp corners and sleek lines melds this bad boy together piece by piece. The characters personalities are complex, authentic and realistic with depth and individuality it’s easy to relate. The scenes are so colorfully detailed and descriptive it’s easy to picture each scenario as they play off one another in perfect balance. Fantastic job Rose, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
I loved this sweet story! I thought the storyline and characters were wonderful full of emotion, drama, forgiveness and humility. They looked beyond their imperfections and found the real person along with true love
There were a couple of tiny things about this plot that bothered me a bit, such as would he have truly courted her without the wager? But then again, if he hadn’t been forced, would he have ever looked deep enough to fall? I’d like to think so, but…. regardless, this was a very well told story, and I did love witnessing their personal growth, for that’s what it felt like, that I was actually there, witnessing it. This story of Amelia and Oliver pulled me through from beginning to end! And I loved how it appears to opening Lady Smithton and Lord Havisham’s eyes a bit also. I do hope they get their own book or epilogue. (Besides the intro book to this series.)
This is a nice, sweet clean romance. It is about Amelia who was hurt when she was young and now has a limp. Society is very unkind toward Amelia and she has no friends or prospects of a husband. Lord Montague is a Rogue, he steals kisses from ladies and leaves them. Someone placed a bet that Lord Montague will make Amelia fall in love with him. He doesn’t want to participate in the bet, but he is blackmailed. This is their story of how love grows.
I was given an advance copy of this book for an honest review.
A lady with a limp is rejected by society. A young lord makes a bet that he can make her fall for him. He ends up loving her and wanting to marry her, Good plot.
Book Four of The Spinster Guild. An interesting story of two strong independent people that could possibly be each other’s love. Can they each over come their insecurities to find love?
Well developed and written storyline and characters.
“A Foolish Wager” by Rose Pearson
I loved this story. I received an ARC from the author. This is a story in ‘The Spinsters Guild’ series. It is a clean, sweet, joy to read, Regency romance. Well worth the read. What will Lord Oliver Montague do when caught between a rock and a hard place?
Book #4 in this series did not disappoint! Mrs. Smithton of the Spinsters’ guild is again giving hope to a hopeless single woman.
The interaction between the two main characters is priceless — such sweetness and honesty. The hero’s heart has a capacity for love that is unheard of in the men of the “ton.”
I fell in love with the heroine and was pulling for her from the first chapter. Such a tender heart!
Rose has added a new jewel to this series without it being cookie-cutter. A true clean and romantic regency novel!
A fantastic read. This read intrigued me right from the beginning. It is a real page turner. If you love romance and a fantastic read this is definitely a read that you will love. I love how the Author brings the Characters out. I can’t help but feel for the characters. The scenes are written so well the characters just jump off of the page. I definitely recommend this read.
