Things are supposed to be easier now. Owens is gone, but he has left a blood trail that points to bigger fish and a bigger pond.
I wasn’t sure if the third installment of this series could keep up with the pace of the last, but it did. The connection between Ellery and Jackson is being tested yet again which manage to build more tension into the plot and keep me engaged.
The narration was a wonderful addition to this story again.
Audiobook Review:
A Few Good Fish is the third novel in Miss Lane’s Fish Out of Water series. I ended up listening to this as a standalone due to time constraints; and while it worked and the author provides sufficient back information so I could follow along, I’d certainly recommend reading the series in order. That said, I did really enjoy A Few Good Fish. The characters were charming and the story interesting, held together with quick-witted and engaging writing plus fantastic narration (I mean Mr. Tremblay is a fave of mine for a reason). In short, A Few Good Fish is the complete package.
The third book finds Jackson and Ellery easing back into things at the start, and then sliding down a rabbit hole that once again leads them to a case that’s clearly been developing throughout the series. There are lots of moving parts within A Few Good Fish and I believe I would have had a greater appreciation for how interwoven these plotlines were had I been familiar with the series. What I can say is I loved how the author demonstrated the still-developing bond between Ellery and Jackson, as well as highlighted the connection and love of all the featured couples, all while creating a suspenseful and action-packed finale. I don’t know if I will end up going back to the start of the series since I know how it concludes up to this point, but I wouldn’t be opposed to it at all and will be following the series from this point on. I’d highly recommend romantic suspense fans checking out this series.

I enjoyed reading this book sooo much! Ellery and Jackson are so dear to my heart! They’ve come so far together, have been through so much and the love between them only grew stronger. I loved all the sweet words they said, all the burdens that Jackson finally was able to give to Ellery to keep and all the times he let go and had peace. It was great to see him finding his self-worth and getting a little bit better. Ellery is a rock, solid shoulder to lean on for sometimes vulnerable and volatile Jackson, his patience and ability to speak Jackson language made me love him even more.
I am glad that the troubles they had are finally gone. Bad guys are gone, and they are free to build their future. Kaden, Jade and Mike are one big loyal family and Ellery now becomes a part of it too. I loved Ace and Sonny, Ernie and Burton – how brave and a little unhinged they seemed to be but so caring and gentle at the same time. The events kept happening so fast, there was never a boring moment. The jokes and sarcasm kept being tossed like a ping pong ball. The book ended too soon for me. It was fast-paced and extremely satisfying. Lucy Satan is the mother of mothers, I love her to bits! I wish for more Ellery and Jackson adventure and highly recommend this series!
I’ve been waiting on this one on audio because the audios of this entire series are just so dang good. This one was no exception. I’ve done little more than listen to it today and I honestly want to start it right back over and do it again right now. It was so, so good. Ellery and Jackson are just so dang good.
Gah, I could not love these two characters more. There just so much pure perfection between them…a balance of hurt and vulnerability and exasperation that is weighed against their devotion, love, and pure need and want between them. I ADORE THEM!
And I highly recommend the whole series on audio (yes, this is one where you need to read the whole series…it’s worth it, I promise!)

A Few Good Fish is book 3 in Amy Lane’s Fish Out of Water series. This is absolutely one of my favorites and one of the best series I have ever read, or listened to. This series, absolutely, MUST be read in order. I know, I always say that, but I’ve never meant it more than I do now. This series follows Jackson and Ellery and each book builds upon the previous one. If you’re a fan of this series, you probably thought the author was done putting Jackson and Ellery in dangerous situations, both emotionally and physically. If you were crazy enough to think that, you ARE SO WRONG.
It’s been a rough few months for Jackson and Ellery and things aren’t getting easier. Jackson thought he had suffered through pain before, but he learns there’s something more painful than physical pain and that’s Ellery’s pain. This storyline continues from previous ones so I’m not going to get into the details or give anything away but Jackson and Ellery still have a lot to clean up. And the hits are coming at them from all sides.
But, no matter what they have to endure, Jackson and Ellery come away stronger as a couple. And, in this book, their future has been mentioned and for me, that felt huge! I love watching the family that Jackson, Cameron and Jade are building because it isn’t just one of them, it’s still all of them. And I loved having Ellery’s family more involved in this book! I’ve always been a fan of Lucy Satan, aka Taylor, but getting time with Ellery’s dad and getting to know him, was just icing on the top!
I love Jackson and Ellery together, especially in this book. If you haven’t read or listened to this series, I can’t stress how highly I recommend you do so now. The author has done a masterful job of building this series. I would love, love, love if the author would continue their series. With the new project Jackson, Ellery and Jade have coming, the series could follow their cases. Maybe with a little (or a lot) less abuse to Jackson and Ellery, but I foresee great things for their future! This book and series gets all the stars there are! Seriously, read or listen to it and it will become one of your favorites too!
